Re: Ruby and Nikita
This time, Ruby did give her aunt a genuine smile. Yes, the young woman knew that Nikita was a lot harder to kill. In that video game, they made Nikita out to be easy prey, but Ruby knew better than that. If it had been this world, Nikita would have kicked all their butts and Ruby knew it.
"I know, Aunt Nikita," Ruby replied, putting a hand on the older woman's shoulder. "I know you would have kicked all their butts." It was at least somewhat reassuring to hear and Ruby felt better for it even if the image of Nikita suffering was still so clear in her head right now.
For Ruby, that was sometimes the problem. Everyone would always take a hit for her. She was the leader of the team, a girl gifted with silver eyes, and immense power, but it meant nothing in the wake of losing any of her friends. As much as she appreciated Nikita protecting her with her life, she didn't want to lose her.
"Technically, that means you're stuck with me too," Ruby replied, trying to keep her voice light and playful. Stepping back, she reached for her aunt's hand and squeezed it gently. "And that also means that I would always protect you too. No matter what the cost."
