Barbara was great at slipping into any conversation and role that was needed for her to play. Came from all the different benefits and events that she had to do with her career. As much as she hated kissing up to people and faking an interest, Barbara was great at it when it was important. This was important for Lois, which was why Barbara had no problem playing a role to learn what they could from the woman in question.
No part of her liked that the woman was doing a bit of flirting towards Dick, but seeing him returning a bit of it didn’t bother her. Barbara knew where she stood with Dick and even if she was a tiny bit jealous, it wasn’t a big deal. None of it was real…well none on his end since they were helping Lois out. As long as the woman kept her hands to herself, Barbara could deal with her making some flirt comments to Dick. Smiling at the woman as she vanished off to the kitchen, she allowed the fake smile to vanish off her face.
Taking a sip of her drink, she started to cough from swallowing it wrong at the question that Dick asked, looking at him when a few people glanced in his direction. “He’s just questioning whether he should look at a different business venture for the town,” she gave them an apologetic smile before turning her attention to him. “Was that really the right question to ask at this point in time? But no, it doesn’t,” she said the second bit in a much lower voice for only him to hear, hoping that her excuse got attention off of them for the time being.
