Marcel hadn’t planned on being visited by a ghost, least of all Josh. Out of the few people Marcel considered family, Josh fell on the list and there had been an emptiness to the enhanced original when Josh died. Unlike Kol, Marcel had never worried about Davina’s friendship with Josh.
However, Josh’s visiting meant some of the guilt associated with Josh’s death and he recalled Davina’s words at Freya’s wedding. About how Josh would have preferred to not die and maybe it was correct.
“So, Marcel, how does it feel to not be running New Orleans?” Josh asked with an amused grin on his face.
“Weird. It feels weird to not be running New Orleans.” Because Josh asked, Marcel had texted Cami, to see if she’d meet him for a walk and some coffee. She was someone Josh wanted to see, since this place didn’t have Davina.
It wasn’t a huge surprise when Cami got a text from Marcel asking to meet for coffee. Their friendship was strong and they tried to get together at least once a week to keep in touch. She was not expecting to spot her friend walking down the street towards the coffee shop appearing to be talking to himself.
She gave him a wave and stopped outside the shop door, waiting until he was closer before making a comment. “Have you gone round the bend, Marcel? Or did you get one of those teeny tiny bluetooth ear pieces?”
Josh laughed at the question and Marcel sighed. “Nope.” The vampire opened the door for his friend. He appreciated that they got time to just be friends in this place. “Josh is here. Or, at least, the ghost of Josh is here. It turns out only I can see him. Made for an interesting visit with Bex and Alyssa earlier today.” Not that he saw much of Alyssa.
Marcel looked at Josh. Josh just stared at Cami and looked a bit sad he couldn’t hug her. “Tell Cami she looks good.” He sighed and turned to Cami. “He says you look good.”
“Josh?” Cami repeated, looking at the empty spot next to Marcel. “I wish I could see you myself. I miss you.” She’d heard about Josh’s unfortunate demise and it made her sad to know that he wouldn’t get the long life he deserved.
If she hadn’t been through so many crazy things in this town since her arrival here a year and a half ago, she would be concerned about Marcel’s mental well being. Cami did move to give her friend a quick hug. “Sounds like you’re having a rather interesting day.”
Josh ran a hand through his hair. “You have no idea how badly I want to hug you right now. I miss you too.” They all missed the brave bartender.
Marcel laughed. “I had a conversation with Bex and Josh, only I obviously was the one telling Rebekah everything he said. She almost choked when he asked me will we won’t we.” Josh shrugged. He wanted Marcel happy. “Is Cami happy?”
“Josh wants to know if you’re happy.” They stood in a nearly empty line, so Marcel placed an order for what both he and Cami liked.
Cami figured even having to go through Marcel, being able to talk to Josh again was worth it. “I am happy,” she said. “Klaus and I actually have the opportunity to be together here. Without all the drama of New Orleans.” Not that Madison Valley didn’t have its own kind of drama. At least here it wasn’t centered around the Mikaelson family.
“Have you seen Hope?” she asked. “It’s amazing to see what a beautiful and intelligent young woman she’s become.”
Josh grinned and Marcel reached over to hug her, as Josh would do with a corporeal form. “Is Klaus behaving?” Marcel groaned. “Yes. Klaus is behaving. Having Hope here helps.” Their ghostly friend looked surprised, but happy. “I’m glad Klaus gets to see Hope.”
Marcel shook his head. “No, we haven’t made it to see Hope yet. Josh showed up while I was bringing Bex and Alyssa coffee and then he said we needed to see you.” With the barista calling out their coffees, Marcel passed Cami hers, while he took a sip of his flat white.
“So, what do you two do for fun in this place? I mean, when you’re not entertaining your favourite ghost.”
As soon as Marcel passed along Josh’s question, Cami chuckled. “I’m working at the clinic as a therapist,” she said. “A lot of people here need it.” More than she could reasonably handle on her own and she missed Linda. “Other than that, enjoying the chance to spend time with people while I can. Marcel and I try to go out for drinks at least once a week. Elijah arrived recently and we found a trivia night at one of the local bars. And spending time with Klaus, of course.”
It was odd having what felt like a one-sided conversation, but it probably wasn’t the strangest thing that Cami ever experienced, so she rolled with it.
“Well, the town is lucky to have you.” Josh didn’t realize the town didn’t have other therapists at this time, or he’d feel a bit more concerned. Marcel realized it, though, and squeezed Cami’s shoulder in support.
“Elijah might not be my favourite, but I don’t think I’d want anyone else on a trivia team,” Josh commented. Nobody held onto knowledge the way Elijah did. Marcel grinned. “And I’m grateful for those nights.” They helped him brood a little less about Bex.
Thus far, Cami had stayed out of whatever was going on between Rebekah and Marcel though she hated seeing how much pain it caused her friend not to be with the woman he loved. “As am I,” she said, flashing a grin at both of them. At least she assumed that Josh was right next to Marcel.
“I guess ghosts can’t drink, huh?” That was a shame though they could still enjoy talking to their friend. Josh shook his head, looking a little bummed about the lack of alcohol, but he still appreciated time with his two friends. Now all they needed was Davina and he’d be as happy as possible. But for now, he’d enjoy whatever time he got with Marcel and Cami.
