Who: Melissa McCall & Scott McCall (feat. Ghost of Victoria Argent)
Where: McCall Pack House
When: The Middle of the Night
What: Bonding Time + Ghost
Warnings: None
Melissa had once again woken up in the middle of night craving something sweet and some tea, so she made her way down into the kitchen. Right away she put the tea kettle on and then busied herself with preparing the tea and a small pastry. Clearly it was going to take her some time to get on a normal sleep schedule. All those years of working night shift at the hospital had certainly gotten her used to being up late at night. As soon as she heard that familiar whistling sound she rushed over to get to the tea pot. After all, she didn't want to let it go on too long and wake up everyone in the house. She prepared her tea, even adding a bit of honey to add additional flavour. Then she placed the pot of tea on a tray with the pastry and her tea cup and she headed into the living room. She sat on the couch, put her legs under her body and made herself very comfortable. She started nibbling on the pastry, but after only a few bites her sweet tooth seemed to fade and she found herself reaching for one of the magazines on the table. She began to flip through the pages, not really interested in what was there. But then she heard the sound of footsteps on the stairs and right away she stood up. She had planned to turn around and see who was coming to join her, but before that could happen she knocked the glass of tea cup off into the floor. "Oops" she said as she leaned over and started cleaning up her mess. As she was picking up the pieces of the broken tea cup she nicked her finger. "Crap" she added, leaning back up right away. "Better clean this out and then get back to the mess" she added, cearly still talking to herself. But then she remembered what led to the entire mess, so she turned to see who it was that had come down the stairs. – Scott was trying desperately to sleep, but it was like asking a torture victim to sleep. Victoria Argent had shown up that evening when he and Malia had tried to have movie night together and she just… wouldn’t go away. No, that wasn’t accurate. She didn’t seem to be able to go away. Both of them agreed that she did not want to have to be around him and Scott would have happily let her go off to find Allison or Chris, though Scott did worry that Allison would be upset about the whole dating Kol thing. Right now Mrs. Argent seemed keen on making sure she was voicing her displeasure which meant Scott sleeping was not going to go well. He had decided to sleep separately from Malia just so Malia didn’t have a spectator, but even in the spare room there was no reprieve from the ghost. He could hear someone downstairs and then smell what they were doing so he abandoned the idea of sleep and headed downstairs. “Mom.” He paused in the doorway of the kitchen. “Everything okay?” – When she looked up to see that it was her son standing at the bottom of the stairs she smiled softly at him. Then as she made her way into the kitchen to get her finger clearned off she heard him ask her if she was okay. So, once she had her finger cleaned off and a small band-aid from the Kitchen First Aid Kit securely placed on it, she made her way back into the living room. “Oh yeah…it’s just a nick” she answered, showing him her finger. She knew she would be just fine and the last thing she wanted was for her son to worry about her. But of course she instantly started worrying about her son. “Did I wake you? I am sorry if I did” she added, making her way over to where Scott was standing. She instantly placed her right hand lovingly on her son’s shoulder. “Would you like some tea?” she asked, more than willing to share her little moment with her son. *** “Uh, no… you didn’t wake me.” Scott was at least thankful his mom hadn’t hurt herself too bad. A small cut was nothing for a nurse, so Scott wasn’t going to worry about it. Besides, it was hard to focus with Victoria saying snide remarks like ‘mother of the year’. He sighed inwardly. “Sure, though, tea would be great.” Maybe it would help him stay up. Though that did prompt him to ask, “How long can someone go without sleep?” – Melissa was pleased to hear that she hadn’t been the reason for her son being awake at this hour. He certainly looked like he could use some rest, so she reached out and placed her hand lovingly on his shoulder now that she was back in the room. “Come on over and sit down beside me” she said, her tone soft and clearly loving as she made her way over to the couch. “I believe 11 days is the world record the last time I did any research on the topic, but I wouldn’t recommend it” she added, leaning over to the table to pour him a glass of tea. “Are you having trouble sleeping?” she asked, once again showing that concern for him that as a mother she just couldn’t turn off. *** “Ah… Well, just started today, but I have a feeling it’s going to be hard for a bit.” Scott was smart enough to know that this was probably one of those Dome things and therefore it would probably end this weird haunting sooner or later. Of course that didn’t solve his current predicament though. Suddenly Scott turned and looked cross. From his perspective he was glared at Victoria Argent. From anyone else he was staring daggers into thin air. The reaction was automatic as he stared and said sternly, “Leave my mom out of this.” It was one thing to bother him, but Scott’s mom was his mom. – Melissa always hated to see her son suffering for any reason, and she would do anything she could to ease that suffering. So, she placed her hand lovingly on his shoulder to soothe him the best that she could. “Well you know I am always here if you need me” she answered, giving him a small smile of encouragement. And then she watched as Scott turned and talked to someone that she couldn’t see and he seemed to be defending her for some reason. She was always honoured with how protective of her he was, but she also didn’t like to see how distressed he seemed to be. So, she slid her hand and placed it lovingly on his cheek. “Scott….what is it? You know I will believe anything at this point” she said, wanting to make sure that he knew that there wasn’t anything he could tell her at this point to surprise. In a lot of ways she felt like she had really seen it all. *** He wasn’t sure there was anything his mom could do. Briefly he wondered if he should go find Hope, but it was late at night so that would have to wait until morning at least. Instead, he sighed and rubbed his face because this was super awkward. “So, uh… I think I’m being haunted by Allison’s mom?” Victoria snorted and said something about his statement being non-committal which was ‘typical’, but Scott ignored her. “She showed up when tonight when Malia and I were having movie night… and hasn’t gone away.” “Not for lack of trying.” Victoria added, which was true. – Melissa listened to everything her son was saying, wanting to make sure she truly understood the issue that he was facing. Instantly she understood why he was so upset and why he was having issues sleeping. She knew about the complicated relationship that the two of them had….okay that was her way of putting it nicely. “Well if you want, we can sit up all night right here” she offered, more than willing to lose a little sleep to help out her son. “And then tomorrow we can see if someone else can help” she added, showing that she did have a bit of a long term plan. “We can watch movies….or just sit here and talk” she continued, wrapping an arm around her son. “Whatever works best for drowning…..her out”. It was clear that at that moment she had wanted to say more, but she also didn’t want to make things harder for her son. Melissa had a very strong opinion about the woman haunting her son, but she knew that dredging that up wouldn’t get them anywhere right now. *** “Well I think I’ll try a combination. Tea for now, then try to sleep again. Maybe ghosts get tired.” This was Scott hoping for the best even though he knew when he said it that it sounded pretty stupid. Victoria seemed to think so too as Mrs. Argent let out a laugh and rolled her eyes. “I just don’t see what Allison ever saw in you.” Scott should have ignored the dead woman, but he turned to her and defended himself. “I love Allison.” Even now, though not in the same way as he did for Malia. Allison and him would have a bond forever. “Yes, and you let her die.” Scott’s expression dropped and he paled a little, looking away. He did, even if he had tried hard not to lose anyone. Alison had died on his watch. He lowered his voice, “I’m sorry that happened.” – Melissa didn’t have to hear both sides of the conversation to know just what they were talking about, and her heart went out to her son. She knew just how hard that time had been for her son, and she was having to battle some rage at this spirit for making him relive that. But she also knew that showing to Scott how upset she was would only make him feel worse. So, for now she kept her feelings to herself. “So, how about you ignore her? You can have some tea and then stretch out here on the couch with me” she suggested. “I can talk to you until you fall asleep and I will sit here with you until the morning,” she added. Of course she was more than willing to do that, because it was for him. “And as for what I believe she is saying” she started, placing her hand tenderly on her son’s chin and turning his face slightly to make sure he was looking at her when she said the next part. “You loved Allison and still do. She’s your friend and I know you would have done anything to keep her from suffering. So, don’t ever let anyone make you feel otherwise”. *** He nodded a few times, processing both the way he felt and what his mom was saying. He understood what she was saying and he logically knew he did all that he could do. It still didn’t mean that Scott didn’t feel guilty about it all. “...I need to figure out how to tell Allison her mom is here. Or if I even should. And Mr. Argent too…” He knew he probably should, but would it hurt them more? Would it hurt them more if they found out he could speak to her and didn’t tell them? So many questions to consider. – Melissa could tell that her son had a lot to deal with right now and as always she wanted to be there for him. Right now there wasn’t much she could do other than be there for him and that really broke her heart. She knew that they would need help with this, but that would have to wait till morning. “We can figure that out in the morning. Right now stretch out on the couch and make yourself comfortable” she said, her tone soft and yet reassuring at the same time. “I am not going anywhere, so if she starts bothering you just focus on me instead” she continued, hoping that it would work…even if it was only a temporary solution. *** He exhaled and then gave a final nod. Okay, he’d try this. The worst that could happen was having to listen to Victoria Argent berate him more about his life choices. In the end, he’d had worse in his life. |
