Who: Fred, Luna, Ron What: chatting/Luna mentions possibly moving out in the future Where: their kitchen When: Sunday evening Warnings: low Status: closed/g-doc
Luna sat at the kitchen table, having just made a fresh pot of tea. She helped herself to some molasses biscuits she’d made earlier in the day. The idea of moving in with Anakin both excited her and caused her to feel some form of homesickness. Ron, Fred, and to a degree Weiss were her family in this place.
She wanted to enjoy her time with them while she still shared a house with them. The fact George showed back up made the blonde happy for his brothers. After she poured herself a cup of tea, Luna went to the fridge to add some milk, before she sat back at the table with a leg under her.
Ron couldn't believe that George had shown up again and seemed to remember being here before. Even though it's been a few years since Fred's death, it was still weird for him to see them apart from each other. Back home it was George, here it was Fred who was the one alone. Sure, George had been in town a couple times (one time he was forty) but each time he got sent back. Ron was cautiously hopeful he'd stick around longer this time around.
He had smelled the biscuits baking, figuring it must be Luna baking. She was the only one in the house that did as he and Fred were terrible at it and so was Weiss whose family hired personal chefs to make their meals instead. So it only left one person.
Now he was hungry so he headed into the kitchen and sat down, grabbing a couple biscuits and taking a bite. He hadn't even noticed Luna was in the fridge. But he certainly noticed her when she sat back down. "Uh, hey Luna."
It had been strange for Fred to be without George. He had always had George around, and he hated that his twin, his best friend, had been without him for some time. But his twin was here, and he was super glad about that. Of course, he had insisted that George live with them again. What else would he have done?
“Luna Lovegood what would we do without you!” Fred exclaimed as he entered the kitchen. He had smelled the biscuits cooking from the room he shared with Weiss, and he knew that it had to be Luna making them. Because, like Ron, he knew there was only one person in the house who could bake.
Molly Weasley had been the one to bake in the Weasley household. Fred had never learned.
He grabbed one of the molasses biscuits, and plopped down at the table. He reached for Luna’s cup of tea, took a sip, and returned it to her. That was all he wanted, a sip. He hoped she wouldn’t mind.
“Ron! …please tell me Luna made these and not you.”
Luna thought the fact the fridge was open might have been a dead giveaway, but she smiled, a bit dreamily as she found herself in her own world. Only for a few seconds, before the blonde smiled at Ron.
“Hello Ron.” Nobody else in the house baked and Luna got used to baking biscuits for everyone. Obviously she usually doubled or tripled the recipes, because with four adults, now five, they didn’t last more than a day if she only made a single batch.
“I baked them, Fred.” She offered a smile to her other redheaded friend. The blonde didn’t mind if Fred took a sip of her tea, although she did top it off again. After a bite of cookie, Luna commented, “It’s nice to have George back.”
Ron was usually more aware of his surroundings, but he was hungry and all he could see was molasses biscuits and nothing else.
He turned when he saw Fred enter and rolled his eyes. "Of course it was Luna. If it was me, the kitchen would've been burned down." Because even if he'd lived here for a few years now, he and appliances still didn't mix well. He still had trouble using them, even the microwave.
He took a bit of his biscuit and shrugged. "It is, then I remember I now have two older brothers to tease me and it's not as nice anymore." But he truly was happy to have George back in town. He just didn't want to admit it.
Fred grinned at Luna’s response. He had been teasing Ron about his baking ability, but he was glad that it hadn’t been his younger brother who had baked the biscuits. They likely would have ended up a burnt mess had Ron attempted. No one wanted any of that. He took another bite of the biscuit, his eyes closing for a brief moment as he enjoyed the sweet.
“You know you love having both of us here, Ron. Beats just George, doesn’t it?”
Yes, he was referring to the fact that were they all home, Ron would have just George in his life. He reached toward Ron, clapping a hand on his brother’s shoulder for a moment. As an apology for bringing it up.
He hadn’t brought it up in quite a while.
“Why’d you bake us cookies, Luna?”
Luna knew how it was back home for the Weasleys and…it made her sad. Losing Fred had been a deep hurt for the family, but especially for George and Ron.
“Anakin asked me to move in with him. He wants to buy us a house.” The blonde sounded thoughtful as she spoke, voicing a touch of disbelief. “It seems my talk of nargles didn’t scare him away after all.” Or any number of topics she chose to discuss.
Ron glared at Fred. Yeah, 'just George'. That was how it was back home and even though he'd been in Madison Valley for a few years, it still hurt. But he knew Fred hadn't meant anything by it, so he just grumbled and called Fred a stupid git before turning back to Luna.
"Wait, really? When are you moving?" he asked, surprised by the news.
“Sorry, Ronnie,” he said, softly. He was about to continue on when he heard Luna’s words. When they registered, really. He turned to face the blonde witch. “You’re leaving us, Luna?” He pouted a bit at her, but couldn’t hold it for long. He was happy for Luna, he wanted her to be happy. And if living with Anakin was going to make her happy, then he supported it.
“Luna Lovegood – your talk of nargles shouldn’t scare anyone off. I am glad, though. He accepts you for you, which is exactly what he should do.” He nodded at this, and took another bite of his biscuit. “Does he make you happy, though?” he asked.
Luna smiled. “I don’t have a set date yet. Probably not right away. We need to find a house and I’m not quite ready to leave you all just yet.” The blonde wanted a month or so to get used to the idea that someone wanted to live with her.
“”He does make me happy. And I don’t want to be with anyone who doesn’t love me for me.” Luna loved who she was, even if she knew sometimes she could be a lot.
"He better." Ron didn't show it but he did cared for Luna and wanted her to be happy. But if Anakin ever decided to upset her in any way, he knew plenty of jinxes and curses.
"It's going to be weird not seeing you around the house." It was something he'd gotten used to and he wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was going to miss her. Still, he'd support her in whatever choice she made. "And when you are ready, we'll help in any way we can." Whether it was picking a house or moving. And not just him and Fred. He was sure Weiss and George would help as well.
“He better make you happy,” he said, before offering her a smile. “I would be quite disappointed in him if he did not.” He wanted Luna to be happy, and he knew that if Anakin didn’t make her happy, she wouldn’t be with him.
He knew Luna well enough to know that about her.
“So he loves you, does he?”
Luna nodded. “He does make me happy, but I’ll still be here for a bit longer and will visit often.” The blonde had a faraway look in her eyes.
“I think we’re headed there, but neither of us have used the l word yet. But I don’t doubt his feelings for me.” Luna stretched and heard the timer go off, for chocolate biscuits. “Gotta grab those.”
