Who: Stefan and Marcel (with a quick Claudia feature) What: getting acquainted When: Stefan’s first day of work Where: the museum Warning: none Status: Completed via Gdoc
Marcel thanked Claudia as Irina’s assistant handed him his double shot cappuccino from Madison Valley Tea and Coffee. Usually Alex brought him his coffee along with Bex’s, but with the brunette having been sent home, Claudia currently brought in everyone’s coffees first thing.
Also blood. Marcel walked to the fridge and pulled out one of the bags with his name on it, and added a little to his coffee.
While he waited for Stefan, Marcel considered Bex’s offer to become her assistant. It would be a step up in payment, but not much now that he was head of security. The idea of running errands for Bex in exchange for payment left him with a bit of an odd taste in his mouth. The vampire would rather do it because that’s who he was. Also, he didn’t exactly handle paperwork as well as Claudia. So, he felt okay with his original answer of basically no.
The redhead sat at the desk and watched the clock, awaiting the new arrival. “As the only human here, I feel oddly outnumbered.” Marcel chuckled. “As the only man, currently, I understand.”
Almost time for the new guy to arrive. Marcel planned on getting to know him before he explained his schedule etc.
Stefan was looking forward to having purpose. That was one of the things that he struggled with the most when it came to the practical immortality that came along with vampirism. He hated having nothing to do. That’s when the worst came out--the Ripper. While he had much more control over it now than he’d ever had before, it was still always a fear in the back of his mind. (Thankfully, Caroline was here. Even though they weren’t together, he knew he could count on her to support him. To bring him back from the edge if necessary.)
He dressed in nice clothes, and headed to the address he’d been given. Stefan was punctual, polite, a fast learner, and quite street-wise. He knew when to shut up, and when to talk. He figured that in this first meeting, he’d probably do more listening than talking.
When Stefan came into the museum, he wasn’t really sure what to expect. He headed to the front desk, gave his name, and was given instructions to head to the office. It was a really nice place--Stefan could definitely see himself working here.
Marcel heard Stefan, and headed over to him. He understood wanting to have purpose, especially given Stefan’s track record. Not that the dark-skinned vampire judged, considering. Anyone with Klaus in their life usually had a little violence in their wake.
“Hey, Stefan,” Marcel greeted the other vampire with his trademarked boyish grin. “Did you find the place okay? Can I grab you a coffee?” Thanks to Claudia, the museum also offered espresso, which he appreciated more than he could say.
Stefan turned at the sound of his name, and caught sight of Marcel. He broke into a warm, but also somewhat tentative smile. From what he knew of Marcel, the vampire was welcoming of other vampires, but not soft. Stefan was actually looking forward to getting to know him better, and not getting on his bad side.
“Yeah, the directions were fine.” He nodded. “Sure, I’ll take a cup.” It helped with the cravings to have something to do with his hands. “How long has this place been here?”
Marcel was definitely welcoming to other vamps. He even enjoyed getting to know them. But get on his bad side? All bets were off.
“Longer than me, but I only arrived at the end of May.” Marcel got to work making a cup of French pressed coffee. While it steeped, he asked, “How are you doing with everything?” The vampire made enough for a few cups.
Stefan nodded. He’d heard that there had been people around here for the better part of a decade, and that was just insane to him. Then again, the whole alternate dimension thing was enough of a head spinner, let alone the time travel thing. He was trying to just roll with the punches and not think too hard on these things.
“It’s a lot to take in,” a phrase that he felt he’d said a lot lately. “But I think I’m all right. Just trying to figure out how my life is going to work here.”
Marcel poured coffee for both of them, before adding a little blood and cream to his. He set out cream and sugar for Stefan, Claudia having informed him Stefan didn’t drink human blood.
“It’s a lot of adjustment. The fact that I get along with Irina helps. But, I miss Davina. And Josh.” Actually he missed them both a lot, although currently one of them was dead back home.
“It doesn’t help that we're all from different periods of time.”
Stefan would absolutely drink the coffee black, but since cream and sugar were available, he added a touch of each to sweeten up the beverage. Then he settled back and lifted it for a sip.
“I’m afraid I didn’t know either of them well.” Or… at all? Still, he’d done his homework. Sure, things were crazy in Mystic Falls (pretty much always) but that didn’t mean he didn’t keep tabs on some of the other crazy shenanigans of the world. He’d been to New Orleans, too. But that felt like forever ago.
“Have there been versions of them here?” He inquired, curiously. There seemed to have been versions of everyone in this nuthouse.
Marcel shook his head. “If they have, nobody told me they were here. Davina is like a daughter to me and Josh is her best friend.” He didn’t expect Stefan to know them.
Things were crazy in their world period. Hard enough to keep track of local crazy.
“I have only been here for a few months. But it’s still a lot. I am glad we have people here, though.”
Stefan nodded. “It’s good to have family.” He had Caroline here, even though they weren’t… whatever it was they were back home. With her being from the future, he was perhaps a little… intimidated? But thankful that she was around. He might go crazy without her.
Speaking of crazy. The crazy from their home world was what linked them all together--what they had in common. It was a bond. Even if they didn’t know each other or even get along before… that was in the past, it seemed.
“I’m preparing for a long stay, I guess. Some people have been here for years? Almost a decade?”
Marcel nodded. His family had always been the Mikaelsons, for better or worse, with Davina as a recent addition.
“Yeah, there have definitely been people here for quite some time. At least you have a job, so that’s a good first step. Caroline is a close second, I am sure.” He smiled. “Ready to start training?”
Stefan nodded. “You bet.” He was insanely glad that he had Caroline here. And even Klaus and Marcel were a benefit--familiar faces amid the chaos of the unfamiliar.
“All, right, let’s get the show on the road,” Stefan responded playfully.
