Who: Brooke Maddox and Leonard Snart What: Drinking and talking. Where: Verdant When: Sometime after Medieval Plot [Backdated!] Warnings: None Status: Complete Gdoc
True to his word, Leonard met with Brooke for a drink at Verdant. Though it would have been amusing to throw someone out during their little chat, Leonard opted to schedule it for one of his nights off. This way he could focus his attention on the young woman and not on the sleazy riff raff that happened to come through the door of Verdant once and a while. Plus, he could also drink and Leonard did happen to enjoy an expensive scotch.
Settling at the bar, Leonard ordered himself that scotch and scrolled through his phone as he waited for Brooke to arrive. He might have paused on Brooke’s picture, barely stifling a chuckle at the sight of the nun icon next to her name in his phone. As long as she insisted on calling him “Lord Leonard,” that picture was going nowhere.
Surprisingly, he enjoyed his interactions with Brooke. It was clear she was a flirt and possessed confidence for miles. Given how she looked? It was expected and deserved. Leonard could appreciate someone with that confidence given it was something he possessed in spades. He could also appreciate someone with a knack for flirting and playing the game too. If he didn’t only have eyes for one Sara Lance, Leonard might have considered pursuing Brooke. She was a fascinating young woman and fun. A combination that Leonard found difficult to resist.
His drink arrived and Leonard took a sip before placing it back on the bar. Idly, his blue eyes flickered to the door and then to the rest of the club. With no sign of the blond or trouble, Leonard turned his attention back to his phone. Though, he was aware of how often Brooke and trouble probably went hand in hand.
Brooke quite enjoyed the friendship she had formed with Leonard. He was a lot of fun and she was all for more people in her life who could not only keep up with her, but also give as good as they got when it came to her comments. It was never a dull moment when talking with him, which was why she was all for going to grab a few drinks with him. Plus it was amusing when she was able to call him Lord Leonard in person as she had done a few times when working. That’s before she became a child with the covering of her ears when he tried to reference her whole ordeal in that other world.
Anyone who spent five minutes with her and was overage knew she was a flirt. It was all in good fun, and it was just who she was. But it was just some harmless fun because she would never ever do anything with Leonard, and she knew the same on his end. The only way that she would be up for that was if it was her with both Leonard and Sara, which was a very hot thought; however, that was the only way.
Running a bit behind after not being able to find her keys, Brooke finally made her way to Verdant in a black skirt that hugged her curves just right and a red top that looked good on her with heels that matched the top. Her hair was clipped up at the moment and out of her face. As she walked past some people that were waiting to get in, a guy tried to grab her attention but Brooke brushed past him to head in. Ignoring the call about her great ass since she was here to hang out with her friend, not deal with some lame attempt to flirt with her if the dude’s first line was any hint of his game. Entering into the club, her eyes scanned and saw Leonard at the bar. Walking over, she did a small bow, “I’m sorry for keeping Lord Leonard waiting.” Sliding into the seat, she had to look away to keep from laughing her ass off, ordering herself a drink. Her hands then moved near her ears all ready to be a child about covering them if he tried to come back at her with a comment.
The obnoxious cat call was all Leonard needed to hear to know Brooke just entered the club. Some members of his gender had no manners. He certainly hoped Brooke wouldn’t be stopping to give that guy her number. While Leonard was a thief, con man, and a killer, he wasn’t the type to make a comment about a woman’s ass. At least, not so publicly. Now, if his blue eyes happened to find it in the midst of a crowd or otherwise, that was a different story.
Hearing her approach in her heels, Leonard looked over, a smirk tugged at his lips as she gave him a mock bow and called him “Lord Leonard.” The thief shook his head and turned back to his scotch, taking a sip as she ordered herself a drink. If she wanted to play that way, then so be it. He was more than willing to break out the nun jokes at her expense.
“It’s okay. I figured you’d probably be finishing up at the church. The rosary won’t pray itself,” Leonard replied smoothly, glancing over at her. “I’m also a little disappointed you didn’t wear the veil. Though, it probably clashed with that red top, didn’t it?”
There were very few people who could get away with the nun jokes. Leonard was one of them because of the lord jokes. Just like Sara could because she had the lady jokes that she could make. Maybe even Kenny for the ordeal he had to deal with, but that was probably close to the only ones who had a pass since she had ammo as well. When Leonard fired back, Brooke had to fight the urge to laugh, and shook her head.
Of course she wasn’t all surprised at the nun jokes considering she did start it with the lord. “Non capisco l'inglese. Scusa signore,” she said in Italian, translating to anyone who knew sorry I don’t understand English and Sorry Lord. Though Brooke didn’t think he’d understand it, and knowing the language came in hand when trying to get away from the nun comments even if she knew that wasn’t going to do anything. Since she kept firing back with the lord comments.
“The only way I’ll be using the word god is with oh my god and in bed. Though I’m sure I can get some priests to break their vows,” she said before shuddering in horror at the thought. Even joking about sleeping with a priest was weird and just a big nope. There was no priest or father or any of those in religions that she could see being her type in any way, shape, or form. Brooke fake a questioning look after thanking the bartender, taking a sip of her drink as she stared at him. Setting her drink down before Brooke decided to screw with him. “Leonard, do you have a nun fantasy? I won’t judge, but I’m sure I can let Sara use my veil,” she was trying very hard not to laugh. Focusing her attention forward because she was pretty sure if she looked at him, then she’d start laughing.
Leonard was not a studious pupil by far, but he was naturally intelligent. His teachers would always tell him that if he simply applied himself, he’d be unstoppable. Little did they know that Leonard did apply himself. Just not to academics. No, his fate was sealed the moment his father started grooming him to fill his shoes. As soon as Leonard got a small taste of what it was like to steal, to have actual power? There was no turning back for him. There was a high in taking something that didn’t belong to you and getting away with it. However, Leonard wasn’t completely oblivious to certain aspects of his educational career. That included foreign languages. And maybe he’d picked up on a bit of Italian from a job or two in his past…
“Fortunatamente per te parlo italiano,” Leonard replied effortlessly. It translated to ‘lucky for you, I speak Italian.” Oh, he was pretty sure she wasn’t expecting that to come out of his mouth. Good. He liked keeping people on their toes and Leonard never liked anyone to know too much about him.
“And here I thought you’d be partial to ‘dios mio’,” Leonard added, turning back to his drink for a small sip before continuing. “And I’d be up for taking that bet on you getting a priest to break their vows.” Especially because he noticed her shuddering at the mere thought of it. He couldn’t blame her; the thought of being with a nun like that caused almost the same reaction in himself.
Speaking of that very concept, Brooke brought up him having a nun fantasy. Leonard smirked and shook his head. “You realize you just admitted to actually owning a veil, right? But no. I don’t have one. I prefer my women as tainted as my soul. Given I actually have one, of course.”
She was quite impressed to see he knew Italian, and she was curious about the reason behind it. From what she knew of him, Brooke doubted his reason for learning it was the same for her reasoning. Also knew it wasn’t always the language of choice in school, then again that didn’t mean it hadn’t been offered when he was in school; however, she doubted it. Maybe he had wanted a challenge in school, but once again she doubted it. So she had an idea on the reason, but still, she’d rather hear it from his own mouth than take a guess that might be right. “And why do you know Italian? I guess I can’t talk shit about you behind your back now,” she sighed as if she was really going to do that. Brooke had no problem saying what she thought to someone to their face in English. So yeah, anyone who really thought she was serious did not know her.
Brooke laughed, shaking her head. “Did you now? I’m one for switching it up so maybe sometimes,” she said with an amused smirk on her lips. The conversation was hilarious to her though probably anyone walking by who managed to overhear probably were questioning it. Didn’t matter to Brooke since she didn’t give two fucks what anyone thought these days. Not like she used to for the longest time. “See how many sins I can get a priest to make after one night with me.” Unless the priest was hot as hell and not all blah blah about God, she really didn’t think she could do it. Brooke was far from religious and was not planning on changing that anytime soon. “If we really want to cause a stir, you flirt with the priest and I’ll hit on the nuns,” the idea was amusing, but at the same time, Brooke was quite alright not doing that.
“Please do you really think I have one?” She gave him a look before shaking her head. “Halloween is coming so if anything, you can get one from the costume store to fulfill that fantasy,” she teased before taking another sip of her drink. “And here I am such an innocent soul. See my beautiful halo,” she held up her hands, pretending to make a halo, knowing he was either going to call bullshit or give her a look that said that. Deciding to beat him to the punch before he could say anything. “Ehhh you’re not living if your soul isn’t a bit tainted. Which speaking of women who get you going, how are things going for you and Sara?” Brooke considered them both friends and she was rooting for them. Didn’t mean she wouldn’t flirt just for the hell of it with either one.
At her response, Leonard shrugged his broad shoulders. “Sometimes, you need to know how to do something in order to complete a job. Italian just happens to be one of those things. And we both know you’re not going to talk shit behind my gorgeous backside. You’re the type that would probably prefer to say it to my face.” Of which was something Leonard could appreciate. He’d rather someone be upfront with him than sneak around behind his back. Not like that stopped Leonard from doing just that on occasion.
Leonard chuckled. He doubted Brooke could get through more than a few second conversation with a priest, but Leonard was tempted to see her try. “I’m not opposed to the suggestion, but I think we both know it’d be a special brand of torture for you to flirt with a priest or a nun.” And while Leonard liked to torture Brooke, all in good fun of course, he wasn’t sure he wanted to put himself into that situation just to see it happen.
Innocent soul. Leonard shook his head and took another drink. “I’m sorry, I can’t. It must have fallen off those devil horns.” And he wasn’t going to buy a veil from the costume store. They both knew it. He barely managed to suppress the shudder that came from the single thought.
“Obviously. It looks like I taught you something after all.” Leonard wasn’t the type to kiss and tell. He wasn’t sure how many details Sara shared with Brooke, but Leonard was going to keep his answers vague. “Me and Sara are peachy. I have no complaints. I plan on taking her on an actual, normal date sometime this month.” When both of them could catch a break from work that is.
“What about you? Any serious romantic prospects in your future?”
“And here I thought it was because you have people who like to talk shit and try to screw someone over, making the plans in a different language so you wanted to make sure that didn’t happen.” Brooke wasn’t at all surprised though by the reason because it made sense, and she had a feeling it had something to do with his line of work. “It’s a beautiful language so it’s nice to hear someone else use it as well.” It had been useful with the amount of times she had gone to Italy for family vacations. It was the few times she got to spend with her parents without it being all about image or being the perfect family so it was important to her. Even more so now with how broken her family was back in her own world. Not wanting to focus on that, she gave a sly little smile at his comment on saying it to his face. “You’re not wrong. Only a coward can’t say what they want to someone’s face and they need to grow a pair. I knew plenty of cowards,” who used a damn poll to share how they felt about her. Probably knew she wouldn’t think twice and would eat them alive.
He wasn’t fully wrong on how it would be tortured. Also wouldn’t help when her normal flirting skills would probably turn into her laughing at the horror look she might get. Then again she did sometimes enjoy corrupting people, and oh, she would definitely be corrupting the priest or nun if she actually did it. “Pretty sure I’m already going to hell and I think we both might burst into flames if we try to go into any church just to do that. But could you imagine the reaction of either one with the flirting? It’d be one of those clutching the pearls moment and probably trying to throw holy water on me.” Okay, that was a bit extreme but the idea had popped into her head and she had to share cause the thought was hilarious. Just the two having holy water thrown as they are sent away.
Brooke wrinkled her nose and hit him playfully in the arm. “Excuse you! There are no devil horns on me,” she reached up as if double checking. “Okay, I was about ready to have to call my doctor and bitch at him for fucking up the removal of my horns.” Brooke knew she was far from innocent and the idea was laughable, especially for anyone who believed it.
Sara had shared some things, but Brooke knew how to keep her mouth shut so she wasn’t about to tell Leonard what she may or may not know. “You better take her on an actual, normal date! Any ideas on what you might take her to go do on this date?” Brooke was happy for them both though she was just a bit sad to not be able to hook up with Sara anymore. Still, she was happy for them and had no problem kicking either of their asses if it was needed.
On his question about romantic prospects, she shrugged. “I met a cutie or two at speed dating, but I have no idea. I don’t have the best track records with relationships. But maybe who knows. I do know if I ever do find someone, I need to make sure they fear me more than my friends,” she said with a smirk.
Normally, Leonard didn’t switch languages to make plans concerning a job. It was more something to consider when slipping past security or fooling someone who had their hands in a ton of money. “It’s a pretty language, but most of the romance languages have that going for them.” Not that Leonard knew a whole lot about languages. Again, they were useful when pulling off certain jobs, but that was all he’d ever used them for.
Her description of what it would be like if both of them entered a church earned her a chuckle. Yes, more than likely both of them would burst into flames and maybe end up with holy water all over their clothes. “It’s true. I have little doubt that we’d both be smoldering piles of ash if we stayed in there longer than a few seconds. I mean probably sexy smoldering piles of ash, but ash all the same. With some holy water mixed in for good measure of course.” Not that Leonard planned on testing that theory even if it was probably dramatized on both of their parts.
Leonard did enjoy how easy Brooke was to talk with. Their banter was easy, which was rare in this world. It was something he could appreciate as well as the friendship currently forming between them. He even didn’t mind the playful slap to his arm. “I would definitely go back because those horns? Still very visible,” he teased, nodding towards her head. Honestly, if Brooke had horns, Leonard probably had some too. They both had done enough bad to earn a pair. He was pretty sure his trip to hell was paid for the moment he killed some for the first time.
An actual date with Sara Lance. Leonard wasn’t even sure what that would look like. He was sure other versions of himself knew, but obviously he didn’t have access to any of those memories. It was too bad. Though, Leonard was adaptable and he knew he could come up with something even if dating wasn’t exactly his forte. “Maybe I’ll take her to the fair. I heard you guys have one in town this month around this time. I mean the carnies are a bit off putting, but winning her a stuffed animal is a rather romantic general.” Not on the same level as dying for her, but on a mundane date? It was a pretty solid approach.
Her words elicited another chuckle and Leonard reached for his drink. “I find it hard to believe you couldn’t find someone that would fear you more than your friends. I mean, I never would, but there is bound to be someone. After all, what’s that saying? Oh. There is someone for everyone in this world. I’m sure you’ll find your subordinate boyfriend or girlfriend at some point.”
“There is a reason they are called romance languages. I’d be a bit concerned and questioning whoever gave them that name if they weren’t pretty,” she told him with a smirk. “I may have learned words from other languages because it came in handy; however, Italian was the only one I became fluent in.” Brooke was on the positive side it was because of that fact it had been the place she visited the most and also because most of her time had been spent on her own. No way in hell was she going to count on someone else for help in saying what she wanted, especially when she was older and flirting.
Brooke rolled her eyes dramatically so she knew he would notice. Giving him a duh look before speaking, “I mean that’s a given on us being the sexiest smoldering piles of ash that anyone will ever see in their lives.” Though as she said it the look of duh turned to utter amusement. How one decided it was a sexy smoldering pile was beyond her? But she knew theirs was going to be the first and people would have to learn how to tell. Okay, yes, she didn’t care that they were both being a bit dramatic, the idea was still hilarious to her and was going to run with it.
Brooke definitely enjoyed hanging out with Leonard and it was always a good time. He was someone she considered a friend. “Guess I need to cancel my plans for tomorrow. I have a doctor to go see and bitch at until he cries like a little scared baby because of me biting his head off for the horrible job he did. These horns are meant to be hidden! How else will I get people to join the dark side with my good looks,” she wrinkled her nose. Brooke knew if that was true, she could have horns and would still be able to lure people to join her on the dark side. There was no way someone was going to say no to her, it just wasn’t happening. Brooke was sure there was a spot waiting for her with all the shit she had done. Even more so for her having a hand in getting the best person in the world killed, and the world losing someone like Riley who was always going to be the reason Brooke kept trying to be a better person no matter how hard it was sometimes.
She listened to his idea and mulled it over for a moment before nodding. “I think that sounds like a fun idea for a date between the two of you. Yes, they may be a bit off putting, but the two of you could handle them if it was needed.” Brooke smiled at him talking about winning Sara a stuffed animal. “How adorable! But seriously, I think it sounds like a good idea. Win a stuffed animal, eat some fair food, and spend some time together. I think she’d enjoy it.” It sounded like a good time, and she hoped it all went well. Not that she had any doubts, but just to be on the safe side, she was hoping for the best.
Brooke took a sip of her drink, shaking her head at his comment and set her glass down before replying. “First off, don’t lie. We know you already fear me,” she teased. “Second, I’m not want a subordinate boyfriend or girlfriend. I’d get super bored with someone who was like that, thank you very much. I just want someone who knows if they fuck me over, then I’m going to destroy them in so many different ways.” Brooke also knew she needed someone who didn’t push or try considering all her hangups after what happened in her last few relationships. “But how about we order some more drinks then I can try to convince you to come dance with me?” She asked, adding a playful pout for good measure.
Leonard hoped Sara would enjoy it. After everything they’d been through, would a mundane date at the fair be enough for Sara? Then again, maybe like him, she wanted a little normalcy after all the craziness they’d been through over the last few months. “I hope so. I know riding the Ferris Wheel and me winning her a stuffed animal doesn’t top our first and last kiss back home.” Or being in the Wild West. Or fighting Savage.
This time it was Leonard’s turn to roll his eyes. “Oh, Brooke. It’s cute you actually think I am.” Leonard admired Brooke’s tenacity, but he wasn’t intimidated by her in the least. In fact, her independent, tough attitude was attractive. If he wasn’t with Sara, he might have tried to pursue her. Maybe in another lifetime. “And I don’t think anyone wants to get into a relationship with someone with that kind of cloud hanging over it. I mean I get it, but that kind of sounds like a threat. Probably not the best way to go about starting a relationship.” Or even ending one, but Leonard wasn’t going to venture any further down that rabbit hole. After all, the thief was far from an expert on relationships.
“But who am I to give a lecture on relationships?” Leonard polished off his drink and pushed back his stool. Standing, he turned to Brooke and offered his hand. “And a pretty woman never has to convince me to take her for a spin on the dance floor. Shall we?”
