The Wonderland portal had been quite fun and interesting. And had a more darker twist on the story, which Kenny liked. But now the portal had closed and he was back in Madison Valley again. And at the current moment, things were quite calm. No new portal or anything weird happening, which he found a bit boring but he wasn't surprised.
He decided to head to Hinkles to grab some lunch, walking down the streets of Madison. Kenny being Kenny, he didn't bother looking when he crossed the street and didn't notice the truck coming his way. He had no time to jump out of the way. He could only brace himself and it hit him, sending him flying. He landed several feet away, bloody and broken, and he could sense the comfortable familiarity of death would be coming soon.
Kyle decided to stop at Hinkles on his way home from his shift at the clinic and pick up dinner for Isobel and River. While he was waiting for his order, he heard screeching tires outside and then a thump and some screams. His instincts took over and he ran outside to find a young man lying a few feet away with some very serious injuries.
“You, call 911,” he said, pointing at one of the shocked bystanders. He knelt down next to the man and gave him a quick once over, trying to figure out where the blood was coming from. When he identified a gash in the man’s stomach, he pulled his t-shirt over his head and pressed it down on the wound in an attempt to stop the flow. “I’m a doctor,” he said. “Hang in there, okay? More help will be here soon.”
It was clear this young man was gravely injured, but if Kyle had anything to say about it, he would survive.
Kenny had no idea how injured he was or where his injuries were. All he knew was that everything hurt. If he had to guess, there were a several broken bones and from the stickiness he felt on his stomach and head and elsewhere, he was bleeding pretty badly too.
He wasn't surprised that people were coming to check on him, even though he'd be fine. If he could speak, he would've told them all to go with their day and let him die so he can do the same. But not everyone knew he was immortal and there was a crowd suddenly.
Everything was going dark and he barely heard the man. He only heard the word 'doctor' before he finally succumbed to his injuries. He was completely still and no longer breathing and was dead.
“Shit shit shit,” Kyle swore under his breath when he realized the man was no longer breathing. He beckoned over another bystander. “Here, press down on this please,” he said, moving their hands to the bloody shirt pressed against the worst wound. “I need to administer CPR.”
The clinic in Madison Valley was a lot calmer than he was used to and Kyle couldn’t remember the last time he’d been in a true emergency situation. Maybe it was fate that he was in the right place at the right time to save a life. At least he hoped.
He began chest compressions, counting out loud as he did, pausing between sets. When a few seemed to have no impact, he realized he was going to need to add mouth to mouth, so he quickly checked to ensure there were no obstructions and pressed his mouth down on the other to create a seal as he forcefelly exhaled several sharp breaths before starting another round of chest compressions. Luckily Madison Valley wasn’t a huge town so it shouldn’t take long for the medics to get here. Until then, Kyle would continue alternating between rescue breathing and chest compressions. He wasn’t going to give up on potentially saving this man.
Kenny was dead by the time Kyle started CPR. It was a few moments before he came back to life and the first thing he saw was some dude pressing his mouth against his. It wasn't the first time it's happened. Several people had tried to save him doing CPR, even if he told him there was no point and he'd be fine.
He pushed Kyle away. "Dude, no offense but you're a terrible kisser," he joked before he sat up. Just a few moments ago, he was all mangled up and broken. Now he was completely fine. Yes, he was still covered in blood and his clothes were torn, but any injuries he had were now gone. His bones were healed and he was no longer bleeding profusely.
"Now where the fuck did my phone go?" he said as he got up and stood, looking around. "Have you seen it?" he asked the CPR guy.
Growing up in Roswell and living in Madison Valley for just over two years now meant that Kyle was no stranger to the unexpected. Having a dead body sit up in the middle of performing CPR was far beyond unexpected though and he was so caught off guard when the man pushed him away that he fell backwards and stared in confusion.
“I… what? How… I…” Kyle wasn’t capable of forming coherent words. This was far out of the realm of his expertise.
He struggled to his feet and looked around, finally spotting a phone a few feet away. “Uh, there,” he said, pointing. “Who are you?”
Kenny hadn't noticed the guy had fallen backwards. All he wanted to know was where his phone ended up. He had been looking at it while he'd been crossing the street and usually when that happened, he ended up letting it go. When the guy pointed to where it was, Kenny looked and saw it.
"Cool, thanks, dude." He went to pick it up and saw that it was cracked. "Damn," he muttered to himself, trying to get it to work just a little but no luck. Guess he had to get another one again. He put it back in his pocket then turned to the guy. "Uh, Kenny," he replied. "Who are you?"
Kyle was still staring at the other man trying to figure out what the hell just happened. The crowd that had gathered in the immediate aftermath of the accident mostly dispersed and he wasn’t even sure if anyone had called for help. Guess they’d find out soon.
“I’m Kyle,” he said. “Dr. Kyle Valenti. I don’t understand how you survived that.”
"Cool," Kenny shrugged. He barely noticed what everyone else was doing. This was normal for him and honestly, he was more concerned about getting a burger than he was about the fact that he just died.
"I didn't," he told Kyle. "I died but I don't stay dead. I'm immortal and always come back." Usually right away but there had been a couple times when it took him longer, but he always came back.
“Right… of course,” Kyle said as if that should have been obvious. Immortality was a new one for him though. “Well, uh… I’m glad you’re okay. I guess I should get going.” Since he was now covered in blood for apparently no reason, he desperately needed a shower. So much for picking up dinner.
He gave Kenny an awkward smile. “See you around.”
"Yeah, see you." Kenny would go home to clean off the blood as well, but after he got something to eat.
