Status: Complete narrative
Time had flown by at a ridiculous pace and Adam wasn't quite sure what to do with himself. Alex was just about a month away from giving birth to their daughter, and it seemed like just yesterday they'd been finding out about the pregnancy. He couldn't wait to meet their daughter -- well, the baby version, he already knew the child-sized version, and oh man was that a thing you'd probably only say in Madison Valley.
He'd already shuffled the clinic schedule around to account for his absence -- he'd be on call for emergencies, but he was taking two weeks after the baby was born to be home with her and Alex. He hadn't done that with Finch, hadn't been able to afford to do it. This time, though, he could take the time to be with his wife and children without worrying about how it would hit them.
Adam couldn't help remembering when he'd first gotten to town, how scared and unstable he'd been. Now, almost nine years later, he was... well, he had everything he'd wanted in life. Alright, so some parts of it didn't look exactly like he'd imagined them to look, but they were the way they were meant to be.
And he liked to think that his mother would be proud of him. John had been there often enough for Adam to know that yes, the man was generally proud of him, but that no longer mattered so much as his mother's approval would. He'd always wished Kate could meet Finch and Katie, now he wished that his mother could meet Alex, Katie, and Niki. He doubted it would happen, but he could always hope.
Glancing at the clock, he sighed and stood. Time to head home, but not before stopping to pick up dinner. He was looking forward to a nice, quiet evening at home with his family.
The way it should be.
