Who: Lorna & Kenny What: Renaissance Faire - Kenny catches Lorna using her abilities When: Near the end of the plot. Where: Their house Rating: low
Lorna had waited until Kenny had got out to work or somewhere that wasn’t at the house. There was no way she could let her husband find out about her abilities or whatever the heck they were. The idea of the town turning on her family, thinking she made a deal with the devil, or whatever else might come up was not what she wanted to imagine or even think about happening. That was part of the reason on her waiting until she had the house to herself other than Dawn before trying to get a better handle on whatever was going on with her.
With Dawn taking a nap in her bedroom, Lorna had gone into the kitchen and tried to focus. Trying to get her powers to go like they had before. When frustrated with how it didn’t seem to be working, the green around her fingers appeared. A look of both fear and awe were mixed upon her face, watching as a few items in front of her raised up from the table. How was this even possible?

Kenny worked as a carpenter and work usually started quite early. After getting ready and having a nice breakfast thanks to his lovely wife, he kissed her and their daughter goodbye before he headed off to work for the day. It wasn't until a few moments later that he realized he'd forgotten one of his tools so he had to go back and grab it.
He entered the house and tried to think where he put it last. After a moment, he remembered it was in the kitchen. So he walked into the room and saw Lorna, who was... was he seeing things right? No, it couldn't be. He was imagining things. No way could his wife do something like that.
"Lorna?" he called out to get her attention.
—
The fear at seeing what she could do had Lorna not even hear the door open or the footsteps. Lorna didn’t even hear her name the first time, it wasn’t until the second one that he had her attention. Her eyes becoming wide at the sight of her husband and the look on his face at what he was seeing. How was she going to explain this? Why did he come home? The thoughts clouded her to where she lost focus and the metal items that she had been picking up crashed down, making it hard to say he was seeing things from the noises as the items fell back down.
“Kenny!” She sounded frantic, trying to get her voice to sound semi-normal even if nothing about what had happened was normal. Hoping maybe she could find a way to talk herself out of this or maybe he would listen. Maybe he’d love her more than anything that he could look past whatever was wrong with her. He married her and they had a beautiful daughter. He wouldn’t be scared of her, right? Deep down she already knew what was probably coming, but she was trying to have some hope.
“What happened? Did you forget something?” Her voice was still giving her away as much as she tried to make it sound normal, but she wanted to get his focus to something else.
—
Kenny wasn't one to jump to conclusions. There had to be some sort of explanation for this. Did he just imagine it? Was it some sort of hallucination? Maybe he was having some sort of bizarre dream. Yes, this was all just some strange dream he was having about his wife being a witch and having powers.
But as the metal items came crashing down with a loud bang, that was when he realized that no, this wasn't any dream or hallucination. He was awake and what he saw was all too real.
"My tools. Uh, a hammer," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady. A quick glance around the room and he saw the hammer near her but he made no move to go get it. In fact, he seemed to be moving away from her. "What was that? Are you a witch?" He barely whispered the last question.
—
The noise caused Lorna to tense up, fearing how she was going to explain any of this. All while hoping the man she married, loved, and had started a family with would be able to look past whatever was going on with her. No one needed to know, and they could be happy together without any secrets. But the look on Kenny’s face told Lorna everything she needed to know, and that everything she was hoping for was never ever going to happen.
"Uhh," she exclaimed as she noticed the hammer as one of the items that had fallen. Lorna decided it would be a very bad idea to try to use her ability again, especially when he was looking at her in a way he had never done before. As if she was not only a stranger but someone who might cause harm to him. That look hurt more than anything the town could ever do to her, or at least that was how she felt right now. With him backing away, she decided to focus on him rather than retrieve his hammer since he didn’t seem all that interested in it anymore.
"Please, Kenny! You know me and it isn’t what you’re thinking. I’m not a witch! I…." she couldn’t lie; it was impossible to explain what he saw, and her voice was already cracking in fear of what he might do. Instead, she decided to try the honest route, hoping maybe Kenny would see she was just as scared as he was over what she could do. "I don’t know what it was. I’m trying to figure it out, but please, you need to know I’m not a witch. Please, honey!" She began to approach him, only to pause at a safe distance so he could consider it and find himself willing to accept her for who she was... maybe.

Kenny always preferred honesty and Lorna was one of the more honest people he knew. It was one of the reasons he fell in love with her. And even if he preferred that she told the truth even now, it was different this time. Because this time she was revealed to have done witchcraft and the more she spoke, the more she realized that this might've been happening for a while now and she kept it from him.
"It seems to me that you are a witch," he said, keeping his voice as steady as possible. "How long have you been able to do this?" he asked. "You haven't done this in front of our daughter, have you?" The thought made him terrified for little Dawn. While the girl was too young to understand, Kenny was scared that Lorna might've hurt her even if she would never mean it.
—
Lorna noticed the look on his face that had given her maybe a small bit of hope that he’d stand by her and give her a chance was gone. The steady voice only confirmed that her fear was possibly coming true of where he wasn’t going to listen to what she was saying, ignoring everything she was trying to tell him. “No! I’m not a witch!” She cried out, her voice raising a bit louder than she wanted, trying to fight back the tears that were wanting to fall. “Darling, please, I don’t know what is happening. It started maybe a week or so back, and I’ve been trying to figure out what was going on.” Lorna had thought about lying, but maybe she was being naive with the hope of her husband seeing how scared she was, and he’d rethink the thoughts in his head. He’d see something was wrong and help her.
His question about Dawn brought out a sob from her, hearing how he thought she might do this in front of their daughter. “I would never have her witness this. The fact you would even think that has me feeling like you’re not even the man I married since you know I would never do anything to put our daughter at risk!” Her voice had changed to a hint of anger with Dawn being brought into this. Though the anger was mixed with sadness and she was trying to focus on that anger since she didn’t want to start crying when she could feel it on the surface the need to break.

There was a small part of Kenny that wanted to stay with her despite what he'd just seen. He loved her, he really did. She was his wife, his best friend and lover, and mother of his child. The one person he'd trusted the most. Maybe that was why he hadn't quite left just yet. If it was someone else, he would've left the second he saw what was happening.
There was also another reason why he hadn't left quite yet.
He glanced over to where Dawn was sleeping and was relieved that she never witnessed what Lorna could do. It was the last thing he wanted, especially when it seemed like Lorna couldn't quite control her powers. He turned back to his wife. "I could say the same about you. I doubt the woman I married could do witchcraft," he retorted. There was a brief pause before he spoke again. "I'm leaving and I'm taking Dawn with me." It just wasn't safe for her. He went over to grab the little girl who was miraculously still sleeping when he picked her up.
—
The moment of anger quickly vanished to fear the moment Kenny said about taking their daughter away from her. “No!” She cried out, moving in the direction of their daughter just as he did, but he was closer to Dawn and was able to get to her first. “Please, you can’t take her away from me. She’s my daughter..” her voice caught in her throat as another sob left her body, leaving her unable to finish her statement. Reaching her hands out for her daughter only to fall back when he held Dawn and kept the two at a distance. “I’m begging you,” she cried out, falling to the ground as tears started to fall down her face, “do not take our daughter away from me.”
Her heart was breaking into a million pieces and even with all her love for Kenny, the part that was hurting more than anything was the idea of losing her daughter. She couldn’t survive without her daughter, and she couldn’t believe the person who was looking to take her away was the man she loved.
—
Kenny had never seen her like this before and he did feel bad. Now he was kind of wishing he'd never seen her use witchcraft, that she'd continue keeping it a secret and he'd just live in ignorance. But that didn't happen and now he knew what she could do. It was just too dangerous to keep Dawn there, especially if Lorna couldn't control it.
"I'm sorry." He really was. He grabbed a few belongings for him and Dawn before he headed for the door.
—
Lorna was a mess of emotions and she not only felt, but saw her whole world crashing around her. What was the others in the town going to do when they found out about her? What about Dawn? If she somehow ended up cursed, would Kenny turn on her later on? More questions were appearing in her head than answers, and it was turning the sadness that she had been feeling into anger. Her eyes and face clearly showed the tears, but there was also anger now in her eyes.
“If you were sorry, you wouldn’t be taking my daughter,” she said. Her anger was slowly getting out of hand as he went for the door. The anger mixed with her lack of control resulted in a horrifying scene rather quickly. Items that had been on the ground from before had raised up again. Lorna didn’t even notice the items because her anger along with seeing Kenny head for the door was taking up her attention. “You have no right to take her away from me!” The anger behind that comment sent one of the objects that had been lifted to sail towards him only just missing him. That caught her attention, and the anger quickly vanished or at least subsided enough that the items lifted fell again. Lorna couldn’t risk hurting her baby girl even if that made it where Kenny could walk out.
—
Kenny was about to turn back around to say something, but he saw something flying at his head and he managed to avoid getting hit at the very last second. He had no idea what the object even was and he didn't care. He was too shaken up to care. She could've hurt him or Dawn or worse. And that just made his decision to leave easier.
"This is why I think it's best if I take Dawn away," he told her. He said sorry one last time before leaving, closing the door behind him.
