Rose found herself inching backwards in the stall as Lord Xavier made his way forward. Why didn't he just stay back? There was muck everywhere and yet, he continued to push towards herself. Still, despite her fear, his compliments touched her. It was significant when someone like a lord noticed you in battle. Rose did not take any of it lightly.
"Your words are kind, my lord," Rose returned carefully, attempting to correct her tone. However, when he stopped moving, Rose felt a wave of panic wash over her. He'd seen something. Something he didn't expect to see from a knight. Rose was trapped. If she refused, she would be insulting him. If she stepped out? Her time as a knight was finished. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, but Rose took a deep breath.
It was wonderful while it lasted. The brunette stepped forward in the stall, exiting the small space, and shutting the door quietly behind her. Walking into the brightest patch of light, Rose stood before him and met his gaze.
"I suppose I am not at all what you were expecting, Lord Xavier."
