Logan went outside to move the car, whistling in happiness with his marriage. Running into Parker had made him late and he knew Veronica worried he wouldn’t show up. But, now the two were married.
He opened the door and heard an explosion, before he blinked. Where was…oh wait. Veronica’s kitchen? Leo’s kitchen? Wait, his kitchen? Logan needed a few seconds to remember where he was, but then Madison Valley popped back into his head.
“Is…anyone home?”
The week since the cruise had been difficult with Logan not making the return trip. Veronica was trying to remain optimistic since his belongings were still there, but every day that passed she felt her hope dwindle a bit. Leo had been a rock and she knew that without him, she would have spiraled right down into the bottom of a bottle again.
She’d decided to call it a day early today and headed home, leaving Leo at the office to finish some paperwork. Her first stop was the bedroom to change her clothes and she was on her way to make a cup of tea when she heard a voice call out. “Logan?” She had a brief moment of wondering if she was hallucinating before hurrying the rest of the way in the direction of the voice.
As soon as she saw him standing there, exactly the way she remembered him from their wedding day, she broke down in tears and threw herself into his arms.
Logan held out his arms and wrapped them tightly around Veronica. He’d loved her all these years and of fucking course their wedding night ended in his death. At least, he assumed as much, given what he knew and what V told him.
“It’s okay. I’m here, V. I promise.” One arm held her close, while the other pushed her hair from her face, so he could kiss her forehead. He rested his head on top of hers. “I’ve got you.”
Veronica allowed herself to take comfort in his mere presence for a few minutes, clinging to him desperately, as if she could somehow hold on tight enough to prevent him from disappearing again. “I thought I was never going to see you again,” she finally said when her sobs subsided. “Your stuff was here, but it’s been a whole week since we got back from the cruise. And so many people disappeared.”
She took a few deep breaths, trying to steady herself. He was here now. That’s what she was going to focus on. They might have another month or ten years, it was impossible to say with the way the dome was, but she was going to appreciate every single moment.
Logan hated how his disappearance caused his wife this much grief. While he assumed Leo also missed him, Logan recognized his death would hit V a lot harder. Leo didn’t lose Logan at home.
He kissed her cheek and used his thumb to clear away her tears. “I’m sorry. I never want to leave you and Leo again.” As if insulted she wasn’t included, Toast walked in and meowed at the two.
“Other than my leaving, what did I miss?” No, Logan wouldn’t let go of Veronica, at least not yet.
“A lot of people left,” Veronica said. “We got back from the cruise and maybe a dozen or so people were gone.” It was one of the more brutal mass disappearances she’d experienced during her time in Madison Valley.
When he raised his hand to her face, she caught it, her finger circling his wedding ring. Her own was tucked away in a box, along with the ring she had from her wedding with Steve. She hadn’t had a desire to wear either since her own return two and a half years ago, but now she wanted to get it, though that would require letting go and she wasn’t ready to do that yet. “Leo’s still at the office. He should be home soon though.” Or she could text him. Which would also require letting go so it could wait.
Logan didn’t desire to let go of V or see anyone else quite yet, not even Leo. Oh when Leo got home, Logan would be happy to see his boyfriend. But this moment felt like a Logan and V moment, given what happened at home.
“Glad I managed to get back. I wasn’t ready to say bye to you. Or Leo.” Logan rested his head gently on V’s.
Though she’d managed to mostly work through her guilt and self-blame for his death, knowing that he was now moments from experiencing it brought that all back to the surface. “I’m sorry, Logan. I never should have asked you to move my car.” Not that there was any way to predict what was going to happen.
“I love you. I know I don’t say it enough.” That was something she was going to work on. Both of the men in her life deserved to hear her feelings more often.
“Hey, V. What you asked is something anyone would ask of their romantic partner. You know that right? My death is not your fault. It’s the fault of the loser who left the bomb.” Besides, he didn’t want to think of the alternative, given a dead Veronica didn’t interest Logan at all.
“I love you too. You don’t have to say it all the time. I know how you feel.” Logan kissed his wife’s, err girlfriend’s, forehead. “I don’t know if I say it enough either.”
Veronica looked up at him, tears still in her eyes, but nodded. “Well, let’s both make a point to say it more,” she said, her lips twisting into something that was almost a smile. “Leo will be thrilled.” He was by far the most emotionally well adjusted in their relationship.
“I was going to make some tea. Do you want some? Or we can just go sit down instead of standing here.” She wanted to be close, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t be comfortable.
“Deal.” This time Logan cupped her face and kissed V. He laughed. “Leo will accuse us of body snatchers.” Logan agreed with how well adjusted Leo was emotionally, especially in comparison to Logan and Veronica.
“I could go for tea.” Logan followed her and stood a little apart from V to give her space, but not too much. “Maybe I should order some food so we have some when Leo gets home?”
“That’s probably a good idea,” Veronica agreed. “I should text him and tell him to come home now. He was finishing up some paperwork. We took a few days off last week.” Because she was in a near state of panic and Leo didn’t want her to be alone. And it wasn’t like either of them could really focus.
She went up on her toes to kiss him again and then finally went into the kitchen to put on the kettle. While she did, she pulled out her phone and sent Leo a quick text that said Ordering dinner. You should come home now. Both statements were true and telling him that their boyfriend was back wasn’t a text sort of thing.
Well, technically Logan was her husband. He had been, of course, at least from her perspective, but it hadn’t really felt like they were married because he obviously had no recollection of it and was, in fact, a few years younger than she was. Now that wasn’t the case. She wondered how Leo would feel if she decided to start wearing her wedding ring. Maybe they could get him a matching one?
“I’d like to see him.” Logan found himself missing Leo, especially with how things went on the damn cruise. “If you have peppermint, I think I’ll take that tonight, V.” While she put on the kettle, Logan called for Chinese takeout, ordering everyone’s preferred dishes, with extra egg rolls.
Logan wouldn’t take off his ring. But, he did think a matching band for Leo made sense if V started to wear hers again.
When the tea was ready, Veronica carried it out to the living room and set down both mugs on the coffee table so she could curl up next to Logan on the sofa. “Leo should be home soon,” she said. “I didn’t tell him you were back.” She couldn’t wait to see his face.
“You were gone a whole week,” she said softly. “I was starting to lose hope that I’d see you again.”
Logan nodded. He’d rather see Leo’s reaction and picked up the mug with the tea. “Thanks V.” His arm wrapped around V, not quite willing to let go of her yet.
“I’m sorry the Dome kept me away from you two for so long.” Logan hated he’d caused anguish to the two people he loved most.
Leo had been more worried about Veronica than Logan being gone. Did he worry about Logan? Definitely, but V took things like this hard ever since she’d lost people here. He was really conscious of that and tried to keep her mind from dwelling on it all too much. He did allow…no, that was the wrong word…let…nope not that either. If Veronica wanted a drink he got it for her, but he monitored how much she consumed.
They both returned to work sooner than he thought they should, but Veronica would have gone nuts without something to do. Fortunately, the rest of WAMM was aware of the situation so he didn’t have to have eyes on her at all times. He hovered less which meant she wouldn’t be tempted to shoot him.
He’d been a bit wary about her going home early, but Veronica hadn’t shown any indication of diving into the bottom of a bottle, so he didn’t insist he go with her. So of course that was when Something happened. Leo got the text and read it about seventeen times as he tried to figure out what it meant. Maybe she got a puppy or something. He wrapped up what he was doing then headed home.
When he walked through the door he called out. “Hey, babe?” He enunciated the final B so she wouldn’t think he called her bae. “If you got a puppy fine, but I get to name it since I wasn’t there to help pick it out.”
Veronica looked at Logan when Leo called out and shrugged in confusion. Why would he think she got a puppy? She didn’t say there was someone here to see him or anything. Still, she was kind of amused by the assumption and she decided to have a little fun.
“He came with a name so I’m not sure if we should change it,” she called back, trying not to laugh.
Logan returned Veronica’s confused expression and face palmed. Toast voiced her protest at the word ‘puppy’ and that did it.
Logan’s tears turned into laughter. The uncontrollable kind that came after a lot of emotion, when there was little to no chance of them being controlled. Sadly it meant he couldn’t speak at first.
“Yeah, it’s too late to change my name. I won’t know when to come when called.” And the laughter fit continued, although he tried to reign in the laughter.
Leo blamed his weird thinking outside the box tendency on the FBI. Always go with the illogical over anything else. Keeps the agents one step ahead of the bad guys.
Hearing Logan’s laughter brought Leo to them swiftly. He wore a baffled look for exactly a moment before it changed to a big grin. “Oh I think you’d know when to come,” he said then hauled his boyfriend in for a hug.
A kiss quickly followed with Leo’s hands on either side of Logan’s face. “Welcome back.”
Trust Leo to diffuse an emotional moment with a salacious joke. All was right in Veronica’s world again. “We ordered Chinese,” she told Leo. “Should be here soon. Want to let the team know we’re taking off tomorrow?” No way was she letting Logan out of her sight anytime soon and she figured Leo would feel the same way.
“We’re spending the day in bed.” She paused. “Cuddling and watching movies. I mean, we can throw in some sex, but I just want to be with you both.”
Logan didn’t mind being hauled in for a hug and kiss. He returned the kiss and added one to Leo’s forehead. His laughter mostly subsided by this point, at least.
He sighed at Leo’s comment. Trust Leo to turn it sexual.
“I should let work know too, then.” A part of Logan wanted to go back to work tomorrow and try to return to his routine. But, given what happened at home, a day in bed with his boyfriend and wife sounded pretty good to him. “Cuddling sounds good.” Logan leaned down and pulled Veronica up so the three could stand together.
“I love you both.”
“There better be sex,” Leo said with his characteristic lab dog grin. “I don’t know if I could control my body that well once the cuddling starts. Too much sexy body heat.”
But even for as goofy as he was being, the hug he gave both of them while the three were just a tangle of arms and affection was serious. “I’m sorry I was a jerk on the cruise,” Leo said before he kissed cheeks. “Love you two.”
Leo let a moment of emotion-filled silence fall between them then… “So now I want a puppy.”
“We are not getting a puppy,” Veronica said immediately. “For one thing, Toast would hate it.” And it would add more chaos to their home, which already had plenty.
She was content to stay there for a moment and enjoy being wrapped up with her two favorite people, which of course was when the doorbell rang indicating that their food had arrived. “I’ll grab that,” she said, giving each of them a quick kiss.
“No puppy.” Logan knew it would land on him to take care of the puppy. He chose a cat for a reason. Toast meowed as if to say she also agreed about no puppies. “But maybe sex,” he teased gently. “And I’m sorry for my reaction. I…think I will start seeing a therapist.”
He returned her quick kiss and went to grab plates and cutlery. Logan looked forward to a quiet night at home.
“Says the woman who had a dog named Back Up!” Leo called out after Veronica then grinned. He’d thought that had been pretty clever when he first learned what the Mars family dog had been named.
“Whatever you want to do,” he told Logan. “If you me to see one to help, then I will.” He wouldn’t mind. He probably had his own shit to work out, too.
Once everyone had gone, Leo looked at Toast. “You’re why we can’t have nice things.”
