Who: Nesta and Oliver
What: random meeting
Where: Verdant
When: Tues. evening
Warnings: TBD

Nesta decided to go check out Verdant and report back to Amren about how loud it really was. As a lover of music, she thought perhaps Verdant might provide music. Oh, they did, but nothing like music from Prythian.

She donned a pair of skintight pants called jeans, and some kind of black cropped top with silver threads. It reminded her of the Night Court and, while it showed off a bit of her too thin stomach, it did cover her rather large chest. Thea adventure of finding a bra that fit had caused her to want to drink sooner. Black heeled boots completed the look, along with her hair in its usual braided crown, which here meant anyone could see her pointed ears.

Oliver hadn't been back long, but in all honesty he was beyond thrilled to be back. So, he decided to go out and do a little exploring while he had the chance. After all, it couldn't hurt to get re-acquainted with the area. He was dressed in a pair of blue jeans that hugged his body in all of the right places and a blue form fitting shirt that gave away just how built he really was.

As he made his way into the bar he had a good look around, making sure he knew every way in and out. Old habits die hard, after all. Once he was sure that he was safe enough to let his guard down just a little bit, he made his way over to the actual bar and ordered himself a drink.

Nesta entered the bar and almost turned around and left. Almost. She only didn't because at this point the High Fey needed alcohol. Plus, maybe she'd find someone to dance with her, so she could forget everything for a moment or two. As per usual she swallowed down the darkness threatening to overtake her.

She made her way to the bar. Did Nesta notice the attractive man at the bar? Yes. Obviously. But, for now she ordered a specialty drink they didn't have back home in Prythian called a margarita. At least whiskey hadn't disappointed her like human food, so she took a chance.

When the bartender handed her the drink, Nesta took a sip and nearly spat it back out. "In the name of the Cauldron what the hell is this?" Mother above. The female eyed it with suspicion.

Oliver had noticed the other person that had joined him at the bar. Sure the bar was fairly crowded, but Oliver had always been the type to notice attractive people. And then add his training and his senses tended to be on high alert. It was just the way that he worked.

He watched as the bartender brought her the drink and he couldn't help the smile on his face when she spat it back out. He couldn't really blame her. That had never been one of his favorite drinks either.

"Yeah they aren't as amazing as people make them out to be" he responded with a small grin on his lips. "If you prefer something more simple....try Rum and Coke" he added, giving her a little bit of friendlly advice.

Nesta looked at the man who spoke again, sizing him up with a glint in her eye. No Cassian, but nobody could hold a candle to him. Not that she'd ever tell him.

"Well, that's good to know." She turned to the bartender. "Whiskey. Neat. And never make this drink for me again." After one attempt at trying something new, the High Fey decided to stick to something she knew she could drink. "I do not know what Coke is." Rum they had, although she didn't particularly care for it.

"I'm Nesta."

Oliver was impressed with her for ordering such a strong drink. It wasn't something that most people could handle. Instantly he found her much more interesting.

And then she admitted that she had never heard of Coke before and he realized that she must be one of those people from another world. "Coke is a non-alcoholic carbonated beverage that tastes pretty good on it's own, but it can also be mixed with drinks to add flavor and carbonation.

"Name's Oliver Queen, but feel free to call me Oliver or Ollie" he answered, not really being fond of people using his full name. He didn't like people treating him differently because of his last name.

Nesta came from a world where most people drank wine or straight alcohol. Plus, she built up quite a tolerance from drinking every night back in Valeris. Home to her family, but not to her. Even Elain seemed to have accepted their plight.

She turned her head back to the bartender. "I'll try a sip of Coke." No, the female didn't bother with manners, but she also didn't go as far as Amren and call him boy either.

The bartender delivered her whiskey and a shot glass worth of Coke. She tried a sip. Less terrible than the margarita. "We have sweet drinks at home, but this tastes sickeningly sweet. Still preferable to the margarita."

She returned her attention to the man who introduced himself. "Do you generally introduce your full name, Oliver?" Given she didn't recognize Coke, his name meant absolutely nothing to her. "You may call me Nesta." Only a select few could get away with calling her Lady Death or Lady Nesta and she didn't feel like sharing that tidbit with anyone.

Another sip of whiskey and she closed her eyes with the familiar burn in her throat. Thank the Cauldron human alcohol still burned like Fey alcohol.

He watched for a few moments as she tried the other drinks, and he could also tell that she didn't seem to have the best social skills. Though, he didn't mind. There were times in his life when he hadn't worried too much about that kind of thing himself. Being stranded on an island where people were trying to kill him kind of made manners and social graces seem way too trivial to worry about.

So, she wasn't fond of sweet. He certainly could understand then why she hadn't liked the mixed cocktail she had tried before.

Her question caught him off guard for a moment, but he managed to recover quickly. "I guess it's something I am used to. I ran my family's business for quite some time, so in that world it's customary to introduce yourself fully to potential business partners" he answered honestly, understanding that she might not come from the same type of world.

"Nesta....it's a very pretty name" he responded, flashing her a friendly smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you".

Oh, Nesta could have social skills. But, she saw what polite society and the upper class did when her father lost his fortune. They'd all come crawling back when Tamlin helped recover his fortunes. She did not care to be fake or considered polite. It felt like a dress that someone wrapped too tightly around her and cut off her breath.

Nesta liked sugar, but not in this fashion. A little in some oatmeal if she bothered to eat sounded nice. Or sprinkled on fresh berries.

"So the overtly friendly to get what you need?" she asked, although not as unkindly as she might otherwise ask. "I'm familiar. My father was the Prince of Merchants." Until he wasn't.

The friendly smile surprised her, but she found it made her feel...a little less dark for a moment. "Shockingly, I can say the same about meeting you." She flashed a smile, although probably a little feral. "Thanks. My sisters are Elain and Feyre. I think we were named well."

Oliver knew better than most what could happen when powerful people fell. People that they thought were their friends could turn on them so quickly....hell it had happened to him, more than once. His own family member had even turned on him; granted some of them hadn't known they were doing it at the time. That made it harder to blame them in the long run. But it still hurt him, though.

Oliver wasn't overly fond of the sweet beverages either. Sure, he liked coke every now and then, but too many of them would give him a headache. Plus it was hard to stay in the shape he was in if he over indulged too often.

"Sometimes it works. I've heard it said....you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Of course, it doesn't always work though" he responded with a similar smile still to his features. It was hard not to be in a good mood when winding back up in the place had been such a pleasant turn of events for him.

"And believe me, I understand" he added, nodding his head slightly."People in power can be cruel....especially when they fear losing that power. They will turn on those they loves, their allies...all, just to save their own skins" he added, as for the first time since their conversation had began the smile left his features.

Nesta hated when her friends moved on without a trace of regret. Truthfully, though, Nesta never fit into the world, not like Elain. Feyre hadn't been old enough to be part of that world when their mother dies and then their father lost their forturne.

"I would like to have a word with whomever invented such a phrase." Nesta took another drink from her whiskey. "They never met Rhysand or set foot in the Court of Nightmares." Her sister's husband did not shy away from force or fear to get done what he deemed necessary. Of course, Elain got everything she wanted because of her sweetness and her desire to be happy.

She watched his features shift and wished for his smile to return, but didn't know the right words to say. When she looked at him, she couldn't hide the silver flames that flashed in her eyes, at how true his words were, and the darkness rose in her momentarily. Nesta downed her whiskey and nodded when asked about a refill. She swallowed down her feelings and her eyes returned to their usual colour.

"But, once in a while they do what is right." After all, the High Lords all provided a drop of power to Nesta's sister, after she saved them all and lay on the brink of death.

Oliver could certainly understand someone not fitting into a certain world, because after he came back from the island he had never felt like he fit back in with his family. Sure there had been some good times, but most of those happened with the new family he had created for himself. His mother had made her mistakes, but the truth was he had still blamed himself for the lack of a real relationship with his younger sister. Those had been his mistakes...not hers. And then there was what happened to Tommy, the only brother he had ever really known. So, Oliver understood regrets and feeling isolate better than most.

"You're not the only one, because I've never been very good at the whole super nice thing. I can do it for a short time when I have to, but I always find it harder with the people I don't like" he answered honestly, not really bothering with holding back anymore.

"Oh I understand. My own mother had turned on her family out of fear, but when the time came she did the right thing" he answered, remembering how hard it had been to lose her, especially after she had done such a noble thing.

Nesta found herself actually enjoying a conversation with someone. She could relate to someone who had a past. "What's the point? Of being super nice, I mean. Really. I prefer someone with an attitude is tough." Yes, Nesta knew she probably described Cassian, but not matter.

"Your mother and my father should meet, except my father died." She'd watched his throat be slit and had stood, doing nothing. "The High Lords came together to save my sister after she saved them all." Nesta assumed a few regretted it, or would, if they realized they imbued her with their powers.

It was rare for Oliver to talk about his family, but for some reason he felt that this woman really got him. So, he decided to take the chance of letting his guard down this once. So, when she mentioned that her father was dead he decided to continue with his sharing. "Oh my mother has passed on as well....I wasn't able to save her" he responded, his eyes going darker for a brief moment.

"Well at least they did the right thing in the end" he continued, the light returning to his eyes now. "Is your sister here?" he asked, wanting to know if there was a chance of him meeting her as well. It sounded like they all had something in common. Though Nesta and he seemed to be the most similar.

Nesta looked at the bartender. "Just leave me the bottle." When the bartender eyed her, he shook his head, sighed, and left the bottle with her when her eyes flashed their silver flames again.

She looked at Oliver Queen. Nesta didn't talk about her family. Amren knew of her family life, but even she didn't quite understand their family before the sisters were made into High Fey. "No. My younger sister, the one you ask about, is at home with her husband, the High Lord of the Night Court. Our middle sister lives with them. My friend Amren arrived when I did." Her eyes glittered at the idea of Amren interacting with anyone.

"I'm sorry about your mother. The King of Hybern snapped my father's neck in front of me." Her eyes took in his reaction. "I promised the king's death. I fulfilled my promise moments later."

Oliver may not know her very well yet, but Oliver recognised that look in her eyes very well, because it was one that he saw in the mirror more often than he would like. He didn't like the idea of sharing information about his family, but he also knew that it wasn't good to keep this kind of thing bottled up all the time.

"My younger sister has a life all her own as well, my best friend died trying to save another of our friends and then my mother was murdered by one of the enemies of our family" he answered honestly, opening up about his life more than he had in years. "I got my revenge as well, but I still miss her..."

"A few of my friends and family from home are here as well. I am glad to hear that you aren't alone" he added with a small smile.

Nesta found a kindred spirit in the man sitting at the bar with her. How strange, although the fact he reminded her of Cassian wasn't lost on the High Fey. Only without the complicated feelings.

"Perhaps it's good your little sister has a life all her own." Nesta didn't mention the horrors her own sister suffered, including bein the one to keep the family fed. What could she say? She'd been so angry that the idea of helping out the family didn't interest her at all.

"I don't know how I feel about my father, but I don't think I miss him." The most honest thing she said and so Nesta followed it with pouring more whiskey and downing it.

"Then I suppose it's good you aren't alone either," she responded. Nesta found her fingers tapping to the beat again.

Oliver had that same thought more times than he cared to admit; honestly he was glad that Thea had made a life for herself. He had wanted to do the right thing by his sister, but he knew that forcing her to come back home wasn't it. So, as much as he missed her he only wanted what was best for her in the long run.

"I've had that thought more than once" he answered honestly, not really sure why he was being so open with her. Usually this kind of stuff was super hard for him to talk about. Perhaps it was because she was a stranger and he didn't have to worry about her opinion as much. Either she liked him or she didn't; it really didn't bother as much as his own family.

"I certainly can understand that. I still have some questions about my own parents and how I really feel about them, but I do miss them" he answered, nodding his head slightly.

"They certainly somehow manage to keep me in line" he added with a chuckle, clearly making a joke about his own tendency to find trouble.

Nesta probably loved Feyre. Somewhere deep down, but anytime they seemed to make headway with their relationship something else happened. Something that caused Nesta to retreat further into herself as Feyre made a life for herself.

She could be honest because Nesta didn't care. If someone didn't like her, that person could get in line behind her sister's brother who stood at the front. The High Fey chose her words because it gave her seconds of relief.

"Family means complicated feelings." Did she miss hers? Not exactly, although to think too deeply meant feelings would engulf her.

Of the many things she could say, Nesta found herself asking, with her feral grin, "Do you need to be kept in line?"

Oliver often felt cursed himself, because of the dark memories parading through his mind. In a lot of ways it was the very thing that kept him from creating closer relationships with those around him. He was never sure how to deal with those memories himself, and the last thing he wanted to do was burden those he loved. So, he would retreat further and further into himself. In all honesty it was still something he was working on.

Yet another thing in common; for quite some time Oliver had pretended to not care what anyone thought of him. And the truth of the matter was that in many ways he still didn't. But there were those in his life that he did care about, so he found himself trying on occasion to be the better person he longed to be....if only for their sake.

"That it does" he answered honestly, knowing better than most just how right she really was.

"Sometimes I need to be reminded to control my temper" he admitted, sharing a little more about himself than he would have liked. But he also didn't see the reason to lie to her about it either. Because anyone that got to know him would find out eventually.

Nesta knew darkness. Had drowned in it in the Cauldron as she forcibly took power herself. She and the Cauldron would never have an easy relationship, as it hated how she clawed at power when it stripped her of her humanity.

She didn't care, because the High Fey knew how unwise it was for anyone to get close to her. She didn't deserve it, not with the darkness in her.

"I suppose I should control mine." Would she? Probably not. Never. "My sister's husband would probably say I need to control mine, but." Nesta shrugged.

Oliver knew deep down that his biggest issues wasn't really his temper. It was his tendency to isolate himself when things got dangerous. Instead of working together with his friends like he should; he would put himself in the line of fire just to make sure they were always safe. But this was also one of the hardest things for him to admit to. Even though he knew the truth; he didn't want to give them a reason to throw it back in his face.

"It's not always easy to control your temper....and for me, my biggest issue is running off when I do lose my temper" he admitted, sharing a little bit more about himself than he had before. It was very unusual for him to be this open, but he couldn't seem to stop himself.

"It's not easy for me to talk about my feelings, so I tend to just walk away" he added with another admission.

Nesta could write books on isolating herself. In fact, she currently did so back home. Why else would she live in the apartment she did? But, it had to deal with fear. Even here the High Fey had four locks on her door. Past trauma told her she would never be safe again. For Elain, Nesta would do the same thing, put herself in the fire first. She tried to not think about Cassian and how damaged he'd been to not live up to his promise to protect Nesta and Elain.

"I live in an apartment in the rougher side of town to avoid my sisters." She wouldn't add anything else.

"Seems we have that in common too."

Oliver wasn't surprised to hear that they had something else in common; he tended to be a pretty good judge of character. And he saw many similar traits in her that he had been known to have all of his life. He also knew better than to assume anything when it came to her reasons. He knew better than most that sometimes circumstances led to building new habits or personality traits. He certainly wasn't the same person he was before the island, so he wasn't about to judge her without knowing what her crucible was.

"I am sure that you have your reasons" he responded, nodding his head slightly. Sometimes it took distance and time to heal; heck he still hadn't made everything right in his life.

"We seem to have a lot in common. I am glad we met".

Nesta had her humanity stripped from her with no say in the manner. She watched as the one person who promised to protect her had been too physically destroyed to get to her. And then the King of Hybern tossed Elain in the Cauldron. Two Made High Fey emerged, one with the gift of a seer and...

Well, one who came out with the power of death. Who didn't go gently as she drowned in complete darkness, swallowing more and more power.

"My sister more so, but she managed a life. With her mate." Something Nesta didn't deserve.

"I should take my leave." She noticed a young man staring at her and Nesta found a target. Someone to help her forget the darkness in her for however long sex lasted. When she stood, though, the High Fey uncharacteristically rested a hand on her new friend's shoulder.

"Do not be a stranger, Oliver Queen."

Oliver recognized something in her even if he didn't want to admit it out loud....it was that same darkness he dealt with everyday. Sure, he was getting better with it, but that didn't mean that it was ever going to be completely gone. It was a part of him and that was something that he was just going to have to accept.

"Yes...I should as well. It's getting late and I would like to think about looking for a job" he answered, smiling that same soft smile up at her.

Once she had placed her hand on his shoulder she nodded his head lightly before rising from his own seat. "Perhaps we will meet again soon" he offered in his friendliest tone.
