Who: Savannah and Adam What: Savannah returns from home Where: Adam’s When: July 31st Warnings: TBD, but should be low Status: closed/g-doc
When Savannah found herself back in Madison Valley, the brunette felt like she’d stepped off a fucking rollar coaster. So much so that she needed a moment, even though the Dome delivered her at Adam’s front door. Back home they’d been happy and living together for over a year. Here she found herself sitting at his front door, taking a deep breath.
Here? Here, Adam pushed her away again and again, only to make half hearted attempts when she’d started dating Quentin. The brunette would probably always have feelings for Q, because he’d been kind and sweet when she desperately needed these things. And she despised how she’d have to see him soon to end things with him.
Because the witch couldn’t turn her back on how deeply in love she was with Adam, had been for years. Her return home only solidified her feelings, but at least she and Adam were closer in age by two years. Finally, she found herself knocking on Adam’s door, not bothering to stand up at the moment.
Since returning from the cruise, Adam had spent most of his time drinking. No, it wasn’t a healthy coping mechanism, but he was mad at the dome for sending Savannah away just when they were on the verge of figuring out their relationship. Of course, he was also mad at himself for the fact that they had to figure things out at all. If he hadn’t been so bull headed and stupid, they could have had a good few months together here.
Sure, he knew that he’d see her when he went home again, and they would be looking into moving in together. That was all well and good, except that Adam had no idea when it would happen.
He groaned when someone knocked on the door and was fully expecting to find Nick, Derek, or Paige on his doorstep when he flung it open with a growling “what?” It took his brain a good long moment to process that Savannah was sitting on his doorstep and it wasn’t a well meaning friend.
“You’re back.” Adam knew he was looking rough since he hadn’t shaved in a week and couldn’t remember when he last showered. None of that mattered though, since she was here. As much as he wanted to hug her, he had no idea how much time passed for her. Plus the fact that she was sitting there instead of standing was concerning. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
The fact that Savannah still sat hadn’t escaped her notice. But when she stood, the brunette would need to face questions and feelings, two things she didn’t want to do quite yet. So she remained as she was even after Adam answered the door.
When she saw Adam, though, her features arranged themselves in concern. God, had Nick shown up to check on his friend? Or Derek or anyone?
“Sure. But standing means…facing the day here and I’d rather not. Quite yet. Face the day.” Savannah didn’t move, but then asked, “What happened to you?”
If she wasn’t going to stand, then Adam was going to sit next to her. He left a little space between them so he wasn’t pressed against her side, figuring if she wasn’t ready to face the day, she probably wasn’t ready for any kind of physical contact.
He reached up and scratched his face, wincing at the stubble. “My girlfriend disappeared,” he said. “It sucked.” Adam shrugged as if it wasn’t that big of a deal. “It’s been a week since I got back from the cruise. How long for you?”
Back home made sense. Her and Adam made sense. But here? Here came with complications, although some of those were Adam’s own doing. Sadly.
“I’d say sorry, but I didn’t really get a say in the matter.” Or a say in her return. “I’m twenty-three now, Adam.” She let her words settle on Adam. “We’ve been living together for over a year back home.” More words for Adam to digest as she looked out across his yard.
The witch looked at the half-demon she’d loved for a good chunk of her life at this point. “Adam. Have you left the house? Or showered?”
Hearing that she was now ahead of him in the time line was a surprise, though one Adam didn’t mind so much, especially when she said they’d been living together for a year. “I know it wasn’t your fault,” he said. “It’s really damn good to see you though.” He was itching to greet her properly, with a kiss, but then she asked her questions and he sighed, running his hand through his hair.
Adam had the decency to look embarrassed. “The cruise was hard and I thought that once we got back here, things would be… normal.” After she had a chance to talk to Quentin and they could really give it a shot. “And then you were gone.” It felt like the dome had it in for him. Getting that close and having her yanked away was almost worse than when she’d been here as a twelve year old.
Savannah found it surprising too now that she thought about it. “It’s good to see you too.” She meant it, completely. This time the brunette smiled at Adam. She laughed.
The cruise had sucked. Savannah avoided her room. Didn’t quite avoid Quentin, but kept herself busy until they got back. Only she got sent home. Which meant she still hadn’t broken up with Q, which would be the next stop on this very not fun town tour.
“Feel like grabbing a drink inside your house? Assuming it’s okay to enter there.” Savannah didn’t want to know what the inside of his house looked like at the moment.
Adam rolled his eyes as he stood and held out a hand to pull her up. “It’s not that bad,” he said. It had only been a week and he hadn’t been able to completely blow off his work responsibilities. There were a few bottles and maybe a pizza box and a bag full of the sauces that came with a Chinese food order, but it wasn’t a complete disaster.
“You want beer or wine?” he asked. There was no hard liquor left. Oops.
Savannah noticed the eye roll and smirked. “Sure Vasic.” She followed him inside. His house looked a little messier than usual, but nothing too bad.
“Beer.” Savannah sat and this time felt a bit more at ease. She loved Adam and hated that her disappearance had that much effect on him. “I should let Paige know I’m back.” But she didn’t pull out her phone yet.
“Yes, you should. And Kate. And Nick. And Jaime.” Basically everyone. A lot of people had been missing her, not just Adam. “You hungry? I can heat up some leftovers.” Adam knew that he couldn’t put off asking her where things stood between them now too much longer, but he wasn’t sure he was ready for the answer, so he was going to focus on other things.
While he waited for her to answer, he picked up a few things that needed to go in the trash.”
“No, I’m not hungry, thanks. I just had brunch with Paige back home, so I probably won’t be hungry for a few hours.” Sav would let everyone know after she left here and went to see Quentin. The witch felt exhausted already. “I’ll let everyone know I’m home soon.”
“Do you want help?”
There was a certain weariness in her voice that concerned Adam and he shook his head, gesturing for her to take a seat on the sofa. “Nah, I’ll be right back,” he said, ducking into the kitchen to grab a couple of beers.
When he came back into the living room, he went to sit next to her, handing her one of the bottles. Again, he was careful to leave a little space between them despite his overwhelming urge to pull her into his arms. “Do you want to talk about what happened?”
Savannah took a long drag from the beer. “Thanks Vasic.” The space felt overwhelming and necessary.
At the question, the witch sighed, and took another sip before she replied. “What’s there to talk about? Back home we’re happy and things aren’t complicated. Now and here, though, things are complicated and when I’m done talking to you I need to go see a different boy and have a similar conversation.” Things that wouldn’t need to happen if Adam hadn’t been such a damn dumbass when she first arrived.
She did offer him a smile, though.
Adam frowned down into his beer bottle at her words. Did that mean that she didn’t want them to be together? It would suck a lot if that was the case, but he knew it was his own damn fault. Still, he was going to take the smile as encouraging, along with the fact that she’d come to see him first.
“I don’t know what else might have happened,” he said. “You passed me up time wise. Last case we worked was the teleporting kid we asked Sean to look after.” With the insanity they encountered frequently, Adam didn’t even want to guess what she may have experienced.
Savannah laughed. “That poor kid was terrified.” She shook her head. “Cabals are…always complicating shit.” Obviously the witch loved her brother. Both brothers at this point, actually, but given Sean technically ran a competing cabal, he could only tell his little sister so much.
“Look, I’m willing to try here. Us. But, I still need to talk to Q.” Savannah couldn’t offer much else at the moment. Nor did she close the space between them, not until she actually spoke to Q and ended things.
Saying that cabals were complicated was like saying water was wet. At least they trusted that Sean wouldn’t deliberately harm anyone, which was more than they could say for any of the other cabal leaders.
Adam let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding and nodded. “Of course,” he said. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.” And as much as he hated to admit it, he liked the guy and didn’t want to see him hurt.
“I love you,” he said. “Whatever you need is fine with me.”
“I need some time to get used to us here. I’m not moving out of Paige’s, at least not for the foreseeable future.” Savannah grew serious.
“But, I’m not doing any more back and forth. So, if you decide in two months you need space, or my age bothers you, or something, then that’s it, Adam.” Savannah might sound like a bitch, but she knew what she needed for this to work.
“I won’t,” Adam said without hesitation. He understood why she needed that and didn’t blame her for saying so. His own time at home helped him come to terms with all of that though and oddly enough, now that she’d gone home and passed him time wise, they were closer in age than they ever were before. “I want this. Us. And we can take as much time as you need. If and when you’re ready, you’re more than welcome to move in here though.”
He liked the house that he and Llewellyn had purchased, particularly the expansive back deck with the gorgeous view.
The fact he’d bought it with someone else bothered Savannah slightly, but she’d get over it. She just needed time. Time to work through things and figure out how to get through the next few weeks.
“Okay. I’ll hold you to it.” Savannah squeezed his knee and took another sip of beer. “You should go shower. I need to go see Quentin.”
Adam nodded. “Come back after?” He really wanted to kiss her and was willing to wait until she took care of ending things with Quentin. It would give him time to shower and clean up the rest of his place. He wasn’t expecting her to spend the night or anything, but he wanted to spend more time with her.
She looked at him. “I’ll text you when I’m done and let you know if I have the energy or not.” Plus, Sav might need to go see a guy about some blood. The brunette hugged him and then finished her beer and stood up.
