It was early, before sunrise, and Gally was the only one awake. He was okay with that, though, it was peaceful this early in the day. A kind of peaceful that the town never was for very long. In the Glade it was a very "calm before the storm" kind of thing, but here? In Madison Valley? It was a strong reminder of how different the world he was from was different than the world he was now in. Not that he could ever forget.
How could he, when everything he had here -- every single thing -- was something he would never have back home? Safety, a job, someone who loved him. All of it unique to Madison Valley, just another fact that made him pretty damn content to just stay there forever. Even with the weird that happened on a terrifyingly frequent basis, he was more than content to just stay.
He hadn't been able to sleep, so he wandered downstairs and then outside, where he stood just sort of looking up and watching the sky. No real reason, just... able to be alone with his thoughts, really, and sometimes that wasn't such a bad thing. He tended to get overly thinky and trying to explain it generally just resulted in a mess of things. Good with words, he was not.
Good with a lot of things, he was not.
But he'd taken the things he was good at and fashioned a life from them, a functional one, and he liked to think that his friends from home -- well, for an occasionally loose definition of the word -- would be impressed with him. Surprised by him was more likely, but shut up. It was early, he was still in a good mood.
The opening of the door behind him caught his attention, and it didn't take more than a second for him to identify with of the two women in the house it was. "Yeah yeah, I know," he said, not turning around. "Kendal's gonna worry if she realizes I'm out here."
K-Mart's laughing reply told him he was right on all counts, something that brought a smile to his face.
