Who: Brooke and Leonard What: Random meeting Where: On the Cruise When: A few days into the cruise Warnings: Lowish but will update if this changes Status: closed/ completed g-doc
This was not Brooke’s idea of a perfect cruise vacation. It wasn’t bad, but she’d rather be somewhere warm. Couldn’t even get a hot, single roommate to share a room with. Brooke was fine with sharing a room with her friend. Though it’d have been nicer to have someone hot and single for her to maybe hook up with while on vacation. Still, she could have fun flirting and hooking up with whoever she wanted just couldn’t bring them back for the night.
After chilling in the hot tub for a while, Brooke had gone back to change before deciding to see what trouble she could find for the evening. Her hair was still slightly wet with her deciding not to blow dry it, but like always she looked good in her outfit picked out for the night. As she walked by some people, a semi-familiar face caught her attention and she decided to put her plans on hold for a moment. While she only had talked to Leonard a few times the version here before, she knew him through other people and work. Deciding it wouldn’t kill her to spare a few moments, she made her way over to Leonard. “A little late to the party, but I see a welcome back is in order,” Brooke said as she approached the man. Brooke only knew him through other people and from the club, but she was a social person so she never thought twice about approaching people.
– Waking up in the same room with Sara had certainly been a very welcomed surprise for Leonard Snart. Finding out they were on a cruise in Alaska? It was truly the icing on the cake. Snart savored the cold more than anything and while some people would obviously find this cruise not to their liking, Leonard was going to enjoy every single minute of it. And maybe steal some of the expensive silverware as a nice little bonus for himself. He had to keep his skills sharp right?
Currently, the thief was on his way to the upper deck for a little fresh air when he passed by a rather attractive woman with damp blond hair. Oh, she was no Sara Lance, but he could appreciate beauty when he saw it…also, obvious fashion sense. He spared her a brief glance, blue eyes flickering over her form, before he moved to continue on his way. Only, he heard her stop and then address him.
Obviously, Leonard stopped, a smirk momentarily crossing her features at her remark before he turned around to look at her once more. “Being that it’s late, I expect one hell of a welcome back then,” he flirted. Yes, Snart could flirt as easily as he could breathe if the moment struck him and, right now, it felt like a good moment to put those skills to use.
–
At first, Brooke raised an eyebrow at the flirting comment to where some might think she was about ready to go off on the guy. Only she wasn’t one of those boring people all prude like or who couldn’t have a little fun. Maybe if he looked like someone who had no shot with her, but that wasn’t the case here. After only a quick moment, the eyebrow returned to normal and an amused smirk appeared on her lips. Honestly, she wasn’t at all surprised about him flirting since she knew what Sara was like and figured he’d be about the same.
“Do you now?” She asked, taking a step closer to him as she looked him over as if she was studying him. “I don’t know if you could handle that type of welcome back,” she threw back with a cheeky smirk to show she was only giving him a hard time. “Maybe a welcome back drink is more your speed?” She asked, a teasing voice quite noticeable with the question. Brooke was curious to see his reply back since she was one to judge on how someone could handle some playful teasing.
– The raised brow at his flirtatious comment struck Leonard as curious. Oh, it was obvious she knew him before, but the raised brow made him wonder if she knew his history with Sara here too. If she hadn’t, he doubted there would have been an ounce of hesitation or a raised brow, but there had been both. She knew about him being with Sara and possibly assumed the same thing now.
But then, she stepped closer to him, clearly returning his flirtatiousness with a remark of her own. He stepped closer in response, blue eyes focused on her face, and that cheeky smirk that signaled she was merely giving him a hard time. Snart was mildly amused. She was confident and Leonard could always appreciate that. He knew the power granted to those who were confident.
“I suppose there really would only be one way to find out,” Leonard replied smoothly. “But, unfortunately for you, I’m not that easy. So, I suppose a welcome back drink will have to suffice.”
–
Brooke did know about his history with Sara, and while she was sure they hadn’t returned to that yet, she figured it was only a matter of time. Either way, she had too much respect for her boss and friend to do anything other than some fun little flirting. Now, if it was with both of them, it would be a different story and one she could very much get behind. Still, this was Brooke and flirting was like breathing for her and she couldn’t turn it off. She just turned it down a bit, like she was doing right now. A small laugh escaped her lips, and Brooke had to admit she liked the guy. While she only knew him in passing and what not, she had never talked much with him before. Though she could say he was the type of person who she enjoyed having around and was a lot of fun, especially with quick comebacks like the ones he was throwing back at her. "Easy is boring and not worth my time," she admitted. Brooke shook her head, chuckling. "You can just imagine the type of welcome back you were hoping for later on your own," she teased, biting her bottom lip for only a moment before continuing on. "Now does a welcome back drink still count if I don’t buy it?" Hey, if she could get someone else to buy it, then it worked for her, but she wasn’t sure if that was fair for getting him a welcome back drink. Though she had her fake ID on her in case she had to get Leonard's drink. "I’m Brooke," she realized she hadn’t introduced herself and he had no idea who she was. —
“Given I have quite the elaborate imagination, that should be one hell of a welcome back,” Snart replied. Plus, he had one hell of a memory too and it had already recorded all of the little details about Brooke, including her biting her bottom lip and the damp hair. “Oh and an eidetic memory to make sure I get all the details exactly correct. It would be so disappointing otherwise.”
She wasn’t twenty-one and that alone should have given Snart some reservations about the entire situation. Especially given he’d just been flirting with her. He was probably twenty or so years older than her. Still, it wasn’t as if he didn’t have experience with young women…even those close to what he presumed Brooke’s age to be.
“In this instance, I suppose I could make an exception.” Snart offered his arm to her. “And it is a pleasure to meet you, Brooke. I would introduce myself, but obviously you already know who I am.”
—
Brooke was both curious and impressed, which was not something an individual could do often. The impressing her part since she was a very hard one to impress, but around this place she often found herself on the curious side. Most of the people back in her world were boring. Here, she had werewolves, vampires, superheroes, and all that other stuff that did not exist back home. At least, not that she knew of. “I’d say don’t have fake me do anything I wouldn’t do, but I think anyone who knows me well will tell you that’d be a hard thing to do.” Hey, Brooke was honest and she enjoyed having fun even if that fun came with some rule breaking.
Honestly, if it hadn’t been for the trip home, Brooke would be 21 or getting ready to turn. The trying to keep her age straight was difficult; however, she knew it had fucked with that. Though that definitely didn’t stop her from flirting with the people a bit on the older side. Even more so considering what she had done back in her world. Or how since being legal, she had hooked up with Sara a few times along with many other people.
“It’s so much fun when you can get someone else to buy drinks without having to spend any money.” And she was very good at getting people to buy her drinks. Most of the time because of her charm, but also because she knew the person and they were friends so they’d get her one. Taking his arm, she turned around to head with him to the bar with the plan of holding up her end of getting him a welcome drink. “Unless you’re some evil twin version with a name like Marvin then yeah, I know your name.” Brooke had picked some random and weird name to call his fake evil twin, but the point was still being made. “How’s the town been treating you so far? Even though we’re not in the town right now.”
—
And somehow Snart knew she had a lot of men and probably women who would buy her a drink. “Isn’t it though? You know what is even more fun? When you actually steal them.” Not that Snart made a habit of snatching beers from bar countertops, but he had pinched a few bottles here and there when he was younger. Now his thieving escapades were made up of far more valuable targets. Though, regardless of what he stole there was always a thrill that came along with it. Nothing felt better than snatching something from someone and getting away with it.
‘Well, I am always pleased to meet a fan.” However, Leonard did chuckle at the name she’d given his evil twin. Marvin. What a horrible thing to be called. It might have been teetering on the edge of being worse than an insult. “I think I should be insulted you think I could be a ‘Marvin.’ Marvin sounds like someone that should be performing cheap magic tricks in the streets, begging for money. I like to think I have more class than that.”
The trek to the bar was a short one and he released her in favor of claiming an empty bar stool. His blue eyes shifted from the liquor behind the bar to her face. “So, what kind of woman are you? A martini girl or a woman who takes her liquor straight? I have a feeling you’re a little of both.”
—
When he asked her what was even more fun, Brooke turned, looking forward to hearing what he might offer up, especially when she was always down for a little fun. At his suggestion, she smirked. Brooke had never stolen anything in her life. Never had a reason considering how well off her family was. Then again with who her father was, it also came with her father making horrible decisions that hurt people and screwed people over. It’s why she was going into business, trying to prove not all Maddox’s screwed over others or cheated their way in the world of business. Didn’t mean she was little Miss Innocent since she had broken into the school to hook up with her boyfriend, and many other things she had done over the years. “I can honestly say I’ve never stolen anything. Done my fair share of other shit, but never that.”
Brooke laughed at how he was feeling on the name she had given his evil twin. “You look like you could be a Marvin.” She lied since the name was horrible and felt bad for anyone who had a name like that, but she was enjoying his reaction to the name. “I’m sure the magic groupies are loving Marvin and hope he notices them. You have more class, your evil twin does not.” Brooke now had the image of Leonard wearing the weird costume that magicians tended to wear all trying to impress people on the street with his tricks.
Moving away from him, she slipped into the seat next to him. Her eyes scanning the alcohol behind the counter as she tried to decide what she felt like. “Nailed it in one. Most people usually guys try to peg me as a fruity drink type of girl, which I don’t mind those but I also drink my liquor straight and shake it up with other stuff. It depends on my mood, the time of day, and what I’m doing. What about you? And your choice on what you feel like drinking so choose wisely.”
—
“You haven’t truly lived until you’ve taken something from someone and gotten away with it. Maybe we should remedy that one day. Lucky for you, I happen to be an exceptional thief.” And Snart was always up for stretching his criminal-enterprising muscles. “I think I’d enjoy exposing you to the tips and tricks of pick pocketing or, at the very least, of showing you how to snatch something from a store. It’s quite the rush.” The adrenaline was unmatchable. There was nothing quite like escaping with something valuable with the cops desperately chasing after you and knowing there was all the chance in the world they would not be catching you. Especially if you happened to be Leonard Snart.
“But we can work our way up to that part of the relationship. For now, let’s both be content with the fact I’m not my rumored evil twin Marvin because he is far less smooth than I am. Also, he has zero fashion sense and the magic groupies you mentioned? They totally don’t like him either. Something to do with him pilfering their magical secrets.” Leonard could play along easily. He prided himself on being an excellent conversationalist. Especially when it came to women, but anyone really. All it took was a good dose of confidence.
When she said he nailed it in one, Snart knowingly smirked. It was nice to know that death hadn’t made him any less perceptive. “Well then, curious minds that happen to be paying must know what you’re in the mood for today. Are you feeling fruity or feisty? I’m honestly hoping for the former. While it’s always impressive to watch a woman handle her liquor, I find it equally satisfying watching a woman looking good while sipping a fruity something or other.”
She was going to break out her fake identification for him. Oh, he was flattered. A woman potentially on the cusp of breaking the law for him. Sexy. Truly. “I’m honored you’d buy me my coveted welcome back drink with your fake identification. Breaking the law is certainly one way to chip away at my frozen heart.” As he spoke, Leonard kept his voice low and leaned in closer, as if they were sharing a secret. In a way, they were. He picked up on the scent of her perfume being that close. It smelled expensive. In fact, everything about Brooke screamed expensive.
Leonard’s blue eyes flickered to the selection behind the bar. Mick would go for something straight from the bottle, but Snart had always been far simpler in his drink tastes. He was fine with a beer, but given she was willing to risk getting caught to treat him to anything he wanted, he felt he should go a shelf above just a beer.
“I think I’ll go with a good scotch on the rocks. Might as well make the drink choice worth the risk being taken to pay for it.”
“Oh would you now?” Brooke asked with a small laugh to the exposing her to some of the tips and tricks of pick pocketing. “Never had a reason to steal anything though I do know what you mean about it being a rush when breaking the law. I’m not even counting underage drinking because pretty much everyone does that,” or at least pretty much everyone she knew. Yes, there were a few good ones who came to her party and didn’t drink, but Brooke was never that person. “Between some of my questionable hook up buddies,” she added with an innocent shrug, “and then there was breaking into places I shouldn’t have been.” She hadn’t gone into details because she didn’t want to think about Jake. But that comment still brought him into her thoughts, and had where she was definitely needing a drink now.
On his comment about zero fashion sense, she made an ugh look. “Such a shame on a lack of fashion sense. I can’t be seen with this Marvin because I will not be around someone lacking in the fashion department,” she wasn’t being completely honest. Though she did try to help her friends out when it came to fashion considering her love, she wouldn’t completely cut out someone just for the lack of it. Once upon a time, she may have. Now she’d try to give out as many tips as possible to save them from themselves. “Wow I must say your evil twin sounds like an ass,” she teased. He wasn’t wrong though it was all about confidence and why Brooke had no problem with people ever.
Brooke checked her phone to see the time before answering his question. “First off, I’m always feisty for the record,” and it wasn’t even her flirting because she was a feisty one. “And considering it’s still fairly early in the afternoon, we’ll go with something fruity for now.” She could go for the liquor later once she was looking to get her flirt on and have some fun. For now, she was going to be responsible…well as responsible as one can be when they were underage drinking. But hey, she’d be close to enough to where she wouldn’t be underage drinking if the dome hadn’t sent her home. So was that really on her? Nah! And anyone who said differently could go fuck themselves as far as she was concerned. Had this been anyone else learning in close, Brooke would’ve been her charming self and while she still was it wasn’t with the full on flirt like she normally had. Even if Sara and him weren’t a thing yet, she wasn’t about to do anything to someone who she respected, liked, and found to be very hot. That didn’t mean she wasn’t going to be her normal sociable self though who was always up for fun of any kind. “I do have a way of winning people over and breaking through those frozen hearts with my awesome self.” No one could ever deny she wasn’t a confident person.
Brooke was a pro at getting away with ordering drinks or buying alcohol. Even back in her own world where everyone knew who she was because of her father, she never had an issue when getting herself drinks. Around town, she was free to drink at the club and strip club because both owners were fine with it. But Brooke knew the game like the back of her hand so even without having done it in a while, she knew the tricks. “Excuse me,” she called to the bartender, flashing a smile at them. “My friend here is going to have a scotch on the rocks, and I’m going to have,” she playfully bit her bottom lip, knowing it would draw their attention right to her lips, acting as if she had to think about it, “I think I’ll have a hurricane.” Brooke noticed the eyes went to her lips like she figured. Pretending as if she didn’t noticed while pulling out her ID before even being asked.
By doing it before being asked, Brooke noticed they never analyzed it all that well, feeling someone underage wouldn’t present it of their own free will. Probably also helped on how she tilted her head on slightly, not going overboard because once again warning signals might go off and cause them to go on alert. The bartender only glanced at it before handing it right back. “Drinks are coming right up,” was said before going to make them. “Please this is barely a risk for me,” she said to Leonard once the bartender was out of earshot.
She never had to steal anything which meant she always had enough provided to her. What she described afterwards sounded like normal teenage shenanigans of sorts. Leonard was mildly amused at the admittance even if he’d been doing far more than teenage shenanigans back in those days. Then again, Leonard was never good at being young. Possibly because the abuse at home made it impossible for him to be as such. Also, his dad had been taking him on jobs since he was a child. That hardly lent itself to proper child development or the opportunity to be a kid.
“Fruity and then shots later. I’m impressed. It sounds like you thought this through. Someone that has a plan even doing something like drinking is worth a compliment.” He watched as she effortlessly ordered their drinks and then showed her fake identification with no fear. It was all in the presentation and if you were nervous, the bartender would immediately suspect something. Brooke was confident and used her feminine wiles to her advantage. It was no wonder she succeeded and the bartender started making their drinks without hesitation.
Once he was busy, Snart actually gave her a very brief, light clap of his hands. “Very good. I really liked the use of your lips in that little exchange. Biting your lip? Classic move, but clearly still so effective. You have earned my admiration. At least for however long we sit and have drinks.”
Brooke definitely had a different childhood than Leonard and she knew she had it better than most. There was also the whole part where people didn’t know the full story with her messed up family. With a Maddox image was all that mattered or at least, that was how her parents felt. Brooke had searched for attention from older men because of the lack of attention from her own parents unless they needed something. It was why she could get away with a lot since her mother was always off in another country with rehab or who the hell knew what else. Then her dad was busy taking shortcuts and being mayor that he was never around. Unless he needed Brooke to look good as a way to make himself look good. Or putting a man who she loved right in the line of fire to save his own ass. She became a pro at hiding all her issues from the world, and that was never going to change. It also helped she didn’t find herself seeking the validation and attention like she once did. Okay, maybe just a tiny bit.
“That sounds like a great game plan,” she added before smirking at him being all impressed. “Oh please, when you’re someone who hits up bars and not being stupid to where you want to get caught, then you know the tricks and plans as to not draw attention to yourself. I get drunk, it will draw attention since you’ll have guys wanting to help little ol me to my room. Then the questions and before I know it, the fake ID is gone.” Brooke may not have the same upbringing like some people, but she was far from dumb. When it came to some of the trouble making ways that caught her attention, she knew how to work around any problems that came around.
At the clapping, she leaned down a bit as if taking a bow while still sitting. “It works on most people and I’ve never found myself failing on getting what I want,” she spoke with confidence because she had never really been told no before from anyone, especially guys. “You already like me, and are probably planning on hanging out with me more because I’m fun,” she teased, turning to face him with a smile. “The bartender will probably slip me his number when he comes back over here, hoping I’ll call and that he won’t be alone with his hand later.” She knew the chances were very likely on how a number would be coming back with their drinks. Glancing over to see one drink made and the second being worked on.
It was clear Brooke was far from dumb. She knew how not to draw attention to herself and best of all, it was obvious she knew how to get away with a whole hell of a lot. For someone so young, it was actually impressive. Most people her age would use and abuse that fake identification, get drunk, and do exactly as she described. They would lose it. He was impressed and it took a lot to impress Leonard Snart.
Her assumptions about him wanting to be around her were actually amusing to Leonard. She never failed to get what she wanted. Snart did find her alluring at the very least, but he wasn’t going to go out of his way to make sure they ended up hanging out again. See, Snart rarely failed at getting what he wanted either. He knew how to play the game, practically any game, even if he had no female wiles to back him up. The blue eyes, the confidence, and the voice were usually enough to lure in potential targets. The ‘bad boy’ persona was helpful, but it had to be a ‘type’ of the person you were going after.
“I do think you’re alluring, but I don’t play on going out of my way to hang out with you more. That’s something that has to be earned,” Leonard replied, his blue eyes flickering to the bartender briefly before returning to her very pretty face. Yeah, the napkin the bartender was already moving to place under her drink had something scrawled on it. There was little doubt in Leonard’s mind that the guy would still end up alone with his hand at the end of the night. Brooke was far too picky for someone like him. High maintenance.
“And it looks like you’re going to get his number…” Snart trailed off as the bartender approached and set their drinks down; the telltale napkin with the phone number placed neatly under Brooke’s drink. Once the young man was gone, Snart took a sip of his scotch. It probably tasted sweeter because illegal means had been used to obtain it.
He glanced over at Brooke, a smirk playing on his features. “Should we drink to you having a potential date later? Or you breaking your umpteenth heart?”
There were times that she may have pushed things a bit far for fun and put things at risk. Like when Brooke had a bit of fun with the picture in the classroom, but on average, she was smart about the stuff that she did. She had spent money on that Fake and wasn’t about to lose it or get her father on her case because she had him looking bad. It was easier when he had an excuse he could use for how she was acting; however, it was better to stick to drawing a huge amount of attention.
“Oh? What happened to the whole exposing me to tips and tricks pickpocketing?” She asked with not only a raised eyebrow but with a teasing smirk to show she was messing with him. “Unless you have some new way of exposing me to that,” she paused for a moment, making a small face, “which sounded a little dirtier aloud than it did in my head. Anyways, then you’ll have to hang out again with me at some point.” Ignoring the part of how it had to be earned since Brooke wasn’t someone who went out of her way most of the time for things that didn’t strike her interest. This was a rare time cause she felt like welcoming him back and interacting with him after the text from Sara on the first morning of the cruise.
Brooke did respect the attitude and the confidence, liking a man who had one without being a complete pig about it like most of the boys she knew back home. More she talked to Leonard, she could say he was fun.
“Of course, I am,” she replied in a ‘duh’ tone because Brooke wasn’t at all surprised. “Thank you,” she said with a smile and a wink to the bartender before waiting for him to walk away to deal with other people. Taking a sip of her drink, she listened to the question, glancing over at the bartender again. “I’m not exactly the dating type,” she replied, leaving out how she was only recently starting to think about getting back into the idea of dating. “And I doubt he could keep up with a girl like me so breaking his heart it is,” she held up her drink to meet his. Brooke had no problem with hooking up with random people, and she was planning to have some fun while on the cruise, the bartender didn’t strike her as the adventurous type.
“Maybe we should find you a date from someone at the bar? Or would you rather be breaking a heart or two?” Playing wingwoman was a fun role for her, especially when she was trying not to bring random people back to the room without talking to Logan about it. Poor guy did not need to deal with that! Okay, and maybe she was seeing his thought process on the question for her own curiosity.
What Leonard got from that statement was that she really wanted to hang out with him again. The thief was not opposed to the idea of showing her the ropes so to speak and spending more time with her in general. She wasn’t lying when she said she was fun. That much was obvious to him. Still, he wasn’t about to make it that easy for her even if some people did.
“Well, when you’re finished soaking in the hot tube one of these days, maybe we can take a lap around the ship and see how many people we can relieve of their wallets.” For Leonard, that sounded like a good time. Way better than soaking in a hot tube or even buying a drink with a fake identification.
Once upon a time, Snart would easily claim to not be the dating type either, but then he’d resurrected in this place and found out he had been. Not just with anyone either. With Sara Lance. The one woman who had managed to captivate Snart in a way that no one else ever had. Then this place had sent him away, taking that little bit of happiness along with his departure, and worse? Snart didn’t even have those memories. He watched as she tapped her glass against his own and found himself somewhat eager for the distraction the conversation provided…even if it only ended up as conversation.
“You realize that you admitting to not being the dating type doesn’t surprise me at all,” Leonard replied. “I pegged you as a heartbreaker the moment I laid eyes on you in the hall.” Her confidence and flirtatiousness only succeeded in supporting Leonard’s theory about Brooke. In her former life she was probably well off, used to getting whatever she wanted, and wasn’t above using people to possibly obtain it. He could appreciate the latter because he did it too. He was a criminal after all.
The thief actually looked amused at her offer to be his wingwoman. “While I’m sure you would make an excellent wingwoman, I’m not the dating type either. And I tend to avoid breaking hearts whenever possible.” Mostly. Sometimes such an act couldn’t be avoided. People became attached…even when Leonard didn’t. It took a lot for him to become attached; his small circle of confidants was proof of that.
Brooke had very few people who she really wanted to hang out with and he hadn’t made it on that list yet. He had her curious, and she did want to get to know him better, especially since she considered Sara a good friend. But she had only been calling him on his own words when he was doing the whole thing about her earning to hang out with him more.
“We shall see. I’m a very busy person with plenty of things I feel like checking out while on this cruise,” she told him with a smirk before taking a sip of her drink. Brooke wasn’t even playing hard to get or anything cause she was planning on doing quite a few things along with hooking up with a few people while on the ship. Hey, it was a vacation, and she was treating it as such, which meant having some fun with whoever she felt like. Also, checking out the scene for fun things to do when at port. With her mom somewhere in the world, and now her father murdered, if she ever returned home, it’d be a while before she ever got to go on a vacation or a cruise again so she had to make the most of it.
“Did you now?” She asked, letting him continue before smiling and turning slightly in the seat to get a better look at him. Brooke found it interesting, and while he was partly right, he wasn’t fully right. Part of her thought about letting him think that, but instead she felt like correcting that a bit, knowing people thought and assumed a lot of things on her because of how she presented herself. Some were correct, and others not so much. “Got an image of me going around breaking the heart of all the men and women that show interest in me, huh?” She asked, taking a sip of her drink. Her tone may have shifted a bit to where she might sound a bit on the pissed off side, but it wasn’t at all towards him. That comment had her thinking about Jake, and the anger she had felt towards herself and then her dad shined through. “Then I guess it would surprise you if I said how I was the dating type but my last relationship screwed me up,” it could be taken a lot of different ways and Brooke was fine with it. So far that was the most she ever admitted about her love life to really anyone. She was pretty sure no one here knew the whole story about Seth or Jake, and for a good reason. A Maddox never showed weakness or allowed people to hurt them as she was raised, and it was a hard habit to break. Brooke was a woman who presented herself as one way while still having plenty of surprises about her that she kept under wraps.
She could respect that, and understand why he wasn’t wanting a wingwoman. Plus she was hoping with the texts that she had received from Sara the first day of the cruise that maybe that was also playing a small part in him turning her down for that role even if he wasn’t saying it. “Way to ruin my fun! I’m such a badass wingwoman and much better at other relationships or potential ones than my own,” she added, laughing but it was very much the truth. When it came to advice, matchmaking, and all that, she was great for everyone else who wasn’t her.
“Don’t you worry about penciling me in. I wasn’t holding my breath on us having this opportunity again anytime soon.” He was sure other Leonards had made ‘friends,’ people who might want to speak with him at some point, and he knew he should spare a moment for them even if he wasn’t their “Leonard.” Of course, if no one came forward to occupy his time, he was more than capable of filling it in creative ways. Hopefully with most of those ways involving a certain former assassin. If he had his way and Leonard liked to think he was pretty good at convincing others his way was the best one of all.
Leonard made a guess and threw it out there based on his observations so far, but he was more than okay with her correcting it. In fact, by her doing that, it only helped him to know more about her and Leonard was a fast learner. He set his drink down on the bar as she turned to look at him; a perfect smile still lingered on her lips. “It was an educated guess,” he answered smoothly. “But I’m more than okay with you supplying some details.” And supply she did. Actually, Brooke was the dating type, but, unfortunately, her relationship had screwed her up. It was always just one bad apple that did the trick every single time.
“Screwed you up, hm? It must have been a doozy of a relationship. I find it hard to believe you walked away without having the upperhand.” He could be wrong, but Brooke didn’t come across as a pushover. “Then again, maybe you didn’t. Love has a way of making us all a little soft in ways we never imagined.” Leonard wasn’t sure if he was speaking from experience or not at this point. He was close with Sara and he clearly had feelings for her, but he wasn’t sure if either of them could call it love just yet.
Leonard reached for his glass and polished off the rest of his expensive Scotch. “Of that Brooke, I have little doubt and if I ever find myself in need of a wingwoman or a little help with a potential relationship, you’ll be my first stop.” Could she be a potential candidate for a Mick? No one would replace his best friend, his partner in crime, but she was smart and clearly friend material if nothing else.

I’ll be letting my imagination fill in the blanks on what the original welcome back might have entailed.” He offered her a playful smirk and slid from the bar stool. “If we do run into each other again, I look forward to hearing about all the hearts you broke along the trip.”
The thief turned and started back through the throng of people milling about the bar floor.
