Who: Adam and Savannah What: waking up Where: the cruise When: the first morning Warnings: low Status: complete
Savannah got to bed late the night before for reasons. These reasons essentially amounted to Quentin and magic. And maybe some making out. Needless to say, Sav wore a tank-top and a pair of panties to bed. Why would she dress differently while climbing into her bed at her house with Paige?
Of course, when she woke a few hours later, confusion entered Savannah’s brain. Right now, her bed felt like it floated or something? And the sheets didn’t have the same lightness as hers at home. Augh, okay, time to open her eyes at least.
And then she noticed someone in bed with her and cast a knockback spell, half asleep still, out of self-defense. Which is when she realized she cast it on … “Adam what the actual fuck?” she said loudly as she stood up.
She suddenly remembered what she wore and grabbed the comforter to wrap around her body. Given everything, Savannah figured Q would prefer she not appear half-naked in front of Adam. Or anyone. And she still felt a bit annoyed with Adam for flirting with someone else on the network, even if they weren’t together.
As a half-demon with fire powers, Adam’s body temperature tended to run a bit hotter than most people. Thanks to this, summers in the midwest were somewhat unpleasant because he got easily overheated. The previous night, he’d gone to bed in nothing more than a pair of boxer shorts that Nick had gotten him as a joke for some holiday.
He barely registered that there was a body next to him in bed before finding himself flying off the bed and landing hard on the floor. “Ow,” he grumbled, unsure of what had knocked him down. Blinking the sleep away from his eyes, he heard her before he saw her and it only further confused him. “I don’t know,” he said, his voice still raspy from sleep. Struggling to his feet, he stared at his girlfriend… who wasn’t exactly his girlfriend… standing on the other side of the bed wrapped in an unfamiliar comforter. “Did I get drunk last night? And Nick and Derek dumped me in your bed for a joke?”
“I am pretty sure that joke would result in two dead werewolves,” Savannah responded wearily. “Sorry for the knockback spell.” Savannah didn’t want to hurt Adam, but an unexpected body in bed would her put the witch on defense.
Since when did Adam look that hot without a shirt? Damn. Savannah then noticed what Adam wore.
“Did Nick buy you those boxers?” Savannah dropped the blanket from laughing so hard. “Hot Vasic.”
When she finally pulled herself together, and the comforter wrapped around her again, she said, “I don’t think we’re in Madison Valley…”
She definitely had a point and he didn’t really think Nick or Derek would pull something like that, it was just the first thing that popped in his mind since he knew damn well he had not gone to bed with Savannah the previous night.
It would be impossible to miss that she was checking him out, even though Adam was still half asleep. Luckily, before his body was able to register it and react, she started laughing and he glanced down, groaning when he realized what he was wearing. Of course when she dropped the comforter he got a good look at her and his body certainly registered that. He grabbed a pillow and held it in front of himself. “Uh, yeah… I think it was Valentine’s Day?” he said. “You know how he is flirting with me.” Of course, Adam gave as good as he got, even though he really didn’t swing that way.
Nick knew better than to pull a stunt like that with Savannah. He held a healthy dose of fear when it came to Savannah. Had since they met the first time. And he’d definitely try and talk Derek out of such a plan.
“Nick? Flirt with you? Never.” Savannah noticed the pillow and a rather large dose of her felt proud. She knew how hot she looked in full clothing, and she didn’t have on full clothing. And shit her body responded.
Savannah wanted to push Adam against a wall, but two things stopped her. Or rather two people. Quentin. And as much as she liked Quentin, in this moment she knew she needed to end things with him. Because a small part of her used him to get past Adam and how fucked up and mean was that? Usually she wouldn’t care, but Q reminded her of Michael and she didn’t want to be a bitch to Q. He was sweet and good and fuck he’d suffered through a double date with Kol and Allison. Regardless of Adam’s answer to her next question, Q deserved better.
The other person was Jo and Savannah didn’t know the history there. “Adam, I need you to be straight with me. Is there something with you and Jo?”
That was not a question that Adam was expecting and he gave her a puzzled look in response, trying to figure out what prompted it since he didn’t even realize she and Jo had met. Then he recalled Jo’s response to the post he made when he returned and he couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth from turning into a slight smirk. Savannah was jealous. That was a good sign.
“We’re friends,” he said. “We’ve hooked up a handful of times over the past few years, but it was always a casual thing.”
Adam had promised himself that he wasn’t going to ask her if she’d made a decision about them, but standing here, both of them nearly naked, the words tumbled out. “Does that mean you want…” he trailed off, not sure how to ask the question.
That. Fucking. Smirk. Savannah knew why he wore it and a small part of her hated he knew about her jealousy. Of course she’d been jealous which probably answered more questions than she’d care to admit.
“If we are doing this, then we need a few ground rules.” Not a definitive yes, but certainly not a no.
“I’m all ears,” Adam said. “Uh, do you want to maybe see if we can find some clothes and have this conversation over breakfast though?” From previous experience, he expected that there would be at least one outfit for each of them tucked away in the dresser or closet, possibly more. And wherever they were looked fancy enough to have room service.
Standing here, both of them awkwardly trying to cover themselves, wasn’t exactly the most comfortable option for a serious talk.
“You call room service and if they’re serving alcohol, get me a tequila sunrise and coffee, please. I will look for clothes.”
A minute later, Savannah found jeans, a bra, and a shirt with her leather jacket.
When Adam got off the phone, Savannah passed him his clothes. She found a notepad with a pen in a draw and found herself doodling until the expected knock came.
“Thank God.” She got up and opened the door.
Adam placed the breakfast order quickly, requesting her tequila sunrise, a large pot of coffee, some bagels and cream cheese, and a fruit plate. He didn’t order himself any alcohol, wanting to keep his wits about him for this conversation. As much as he’d already fucked up, he would be damned if he would do it again.
“Thanks,” he said, taking his clothes and heading into the bathroom to make use of the facilities and get dressed in the jeans and t-shirt she found, also grateful that there was a package of boxer-briefs in his size so he didn’t have to continue wearing the ridiculous boxer shorts with Nick’s face.
He dawdled in there until he heard the knock on the door signaling the arrival of the much needed coffee and food. “Good timing,” he said, exiting the bathroom as if he hadn’t planned it that way.
Savannah assumed he stayed in there until the food arrived, but didn’t say anything. Given how their previous talks went, Savannah needed a drink with her food. She poured coffee for both of them, and helped herself to a bagel and some fruit.
After a much needed sip of her drink, she focused on her coffee for a minute.
“We can’t go to Paige with relationship issues. And I need you to be okay that one of my friends is a Mikaelson. One I get drinks with sometimes.” One who drank Savannah’s blood, but she didn’t plan on divulging the information, anymore than Kol mentioned it to Allison.
Since Paige was pretty much the last person Adam would go to with relationship issues, largely because she always told him he was being dumb, that was an easy one to agree with and he nodded. The friends with a Mikaelson thing was a little less okay though and he frowned. “Which one?” he asked. As long as it wasn’t Klaus, he figured he could make himself okay with it. The rest hadn’t caused any major ruckuses that he was aware of.
He cradled his coffee mug in his hands and held it just below his nose, inhaling the scent to help stimulate his brain before taking a few sips and setting it down in favor of slathering a bagel with cream cheese.
Savannah adored Paige, but didn’t want to make her former guardian uncomfortable, especially since they still lived together.
“Kol. I’m also friends with his girlfriend.” Actually Savannah really liked Allison. She enjoyed having a friend who didn’t come from her world. And Kol just kind of fit in her life however weird it seemed. Savannah thought he’d realize which one after the disaster of a double date she mentioned.
She followed suit and slathered cream cheese on her bagel.
“He’s dating Chris Argent’s daughter, right?” Adam asked. He knew Chris well, they had essentially been colleagues for years guarding the various Moroi who came and went. He’d definitely met his daughter at some point, though he wasn’t entirely sure if it was this one or a previous one. It was hard to keep track of the way some people came and went.
As long as Savannah wasn’t in any danger, he would trust her judgment. “I hope you know that I’m not the type of guy who is going to get all weird about his girl being friends with other guys.”
“Allison. I think that’s his daughter.” Savannah didn’t talk about family with Allison much, given how Savannah carried a lot of guilt surrounding hers.
“I know. Because I plan on staying friends with Q. And I won’t get weirded out about your friendship with Nick.” She joked, but jealousy generally didn’t happen to her. The situation with Jo felt more situational than actual jealousy, because Savannah had no idea where she stood with Adam then.
Adam finished chewing and swallowing his bite of bagel and gave her a devious grin. “Nick’s totally my hall pass,” he joked. That was easier than thinking about her friendship with Quentin. He had no idea how seriously they’d been dating and he didn’t think he wanted to know. Besides, he was friends with Jo, who he’d hooked up with, so he’d be a hypocrite if he expressed discomfort with it.
“Anything else you want to know?” he offered, picking up his coffee cup and taking a long sip. “I’ll answer whatever questions you want to ask.”
She laughed. “If Mia willingly shares, who am I to stand in the way of true love?” Somehow Savannah doubted Mia would share.
Savannah looked at her coffee cup, but took a sip of her alcohol instead. She hated that she’d hurt someone she cared about, someone who hadn’t done anything but treat her kindly when Adam...couldn’t pull his head out of his ass and had been exactly what she needed. Maybe a small part of her would need a few days to mourn and be by herself when they returned.
“Do you have any questions for me?” Savannah took a bite of her bagel. As she chewed she pondered saying something about Q, but didn’t because it still felt oddly disloyal. Her one hand pushed her hair out of her face.
“I need to talk to Q, though. He…deserves an actual conversation.” And in another time and place, without Adam, she could see herself happy with Q. Like how she saw a branch with Michael, but neither person would be Adam.
The idea of Mia sharing was laughable though Adam appreciated that she rolled with it. “No, I know everything I need to know, Savannah.”
He nodded as he grabbed some fruit. “Of course he does,” he said. “You wouldn’t be you if you did let him down gently.” Adam had nothing against the guy, didn’t know him well, but he suspected they weren’t going to be great friends.
“Can I take you on a date while we’re traveling?” Speaking of which, he supposed they should figure out exactly where they were. “Hopefully there’s an itinerary around here somewhere.”
Savannah nodded. “I know everything I need to know too.”
At the offer of a date, Savannah took another sip of her drink. “If it’s something we can do private then yes, because I want to go on a date with you. I don’t want Quentin to find out before I tell him, though.” How fucking terrible would she feel?
“Yeah, I think we should figure out where we are.”
“You want to wait until we’re not stuck on a ship somewhere to have that conversation, I assume,” Adam said. That meant this trip was going to be challenging in several ways since they were sharing a bed.
He got up from the table and looked around the room, finally spotting a list on the desk. “Oh, we’re in Canada. Cruising to Alaska.” He’d have to be careful not to melt any glaciers.
Savannah nodded. As much as she wanted to jump into things with Adam, she knew how much she’d hate it if the roles reversed. And Q didn’t deserve her being cruel. Of course whether 1am Savannah could keep her hands to herself seemed like a challenge too.
“Huh. Well, we should explore Canada while we’re here.” Savannah loved the idea of Alaska. She took another long pace of her coffee, and finished off her bagel before moving onto the fruit.
As much as Adam wanted to experience this unexpected trip as a couple, he respected Savannah’s desire to be as kind as possible to Quentin. Considering it was his own fault that he fucked up and she started dating someone else, he couldn’t really complain. At least Alaska was cold, maybe that would have a similar effect as a cold shower.
“Yeah, should also probably reach out and check on everyone,” he said. “Make sure we’re all present and accounted for.” And that no one woke up in bed with someone who might cause them actual harm, though Adam didn’t think that was likely.
Savannah already texted Quentin, Paige, Nick, Kate, Kol, Sean, Alex, and her parents to check on them. The fact her first person had been Q wasn’t lost on her, but she chose not to say anything. Somehow, Q would probably remain important to her.
She also needed time to get used to the whole agreeing to date Adam thing. Shit. But, on this trip they were strictly friends.
“I texted the main people.” And Q. “Shit, I didn’t remember to text Derek or Chloe, can you?”
Adam nodded. “Sure, I can do that. There’s a few others I should touch base with too.” Like Jo. Mia. Castiel. Chris. “And I guess we should get out of here. Take advantage of the new surroundings.” Plus, he could use a little space to process the events of the morning. Hopefully he could grab Nick and Derek for a guy’s night at some point on the trip.
Finishing his bagel, he stood up from the table and smiled at her. “Have fun whatever you end up doing. We can trade stories later.” Since they would be stuck sharing this room until they got sent back to Madison Valley.
Savannah planned on finding Sean ASAP. Yes, he probably wanted time with his husband, but she needed her big brother stat. Eventually she’d text Allison, but she wanted to give the woman time to have fun with Kol.
“I’m sure I’ll have fun.” Savannah wanted to go explore Vancouver anyway.
