Who: Liz and MJ What: waking up on the cruise Where: the cruise ship When: the first morning Warnings: low Status: closed/g-doc
MJ slowly woke up and something felt different. For one thing, why did it feel like her bed floated? Also, the sheets felt different than hers at home. And finally, was someone in the bed with her?
When she opened her eyes, MJ half expected to scream at someone, or find the Dome played a fucked up trick on her? But then she noticed Liz. In bed with her. In a sizable king, but still sharing a bed. What the fuck?
“Um, Liz? You should probably wake up.” And then they could figure out shit together. “No really wake up, because I’m 99% sure we aren’t in Madison.”
Liz was having a dream about home. She had them less and less now, but occasionally she was back in Roswell with Maria and Alex - Alex who was alive - and Max and things weren’t as complicated as they were in real life. In her dreams Max and the others were unapologetically aliens and no one cared. There were no FBI agents or enemy alien invasions. It was just them being teenagers, some of whom who happened to be aliens. It was a nice dream.
MJ’s voice came out of Maria’s mouth and suddenly her dream dissolved into reality. Still, she murmured sleepily, “Maria?”
She brought a hand to her head - being pulled from the deeper sleep cycle sucked - and it took her a moment to process that it didn’t feel like she was in her normal bed. Granted, for her, the TARDIS had been known to occasionally change her sheets and whatnot, so for a moment she just thought this was the case of her home changing the game for her.
Blinking while still with her eyes closed, Liz finally opened them. That was enough to jolt her ‘awake’ and she sat up quickly. Thankfully she was in shorts and a tank top otherwise she’d be mortified. “MJ??”
Mj felt bad about waking up her friend from a dead sleep. Because she’d obviously been in a deep cycle of sleep. However, MJ thought they might want to deal with their current situation. She wore an oversized t-shirt and women’s boxers underwear. So not ideal, but not terrible.
“Yeah, so I don’t think we’re in Madison Valley anymore.” She looked around. “Although the room isn’t terrible.”
Liz was quick to move to the small window. Was she back in the past? It had not been a particularly fun time for her then. Being moved around wasn’t new to Liz thanks to the Dome, but it was always a little unsettling when it happened. Were they in danger?
“Looks like we’re still on Earth.” Thankfully the nightstand had her phone and she turned it on. “And not in the past since I can see a wifi signal.” Alex would have been proud she knew all these terms if he ever showed up. Not that Liz thought he would considering the other Alex was here. Her turning into the other Liz told her that there could only be one.
“I think we’re on a boat. I can see water outside.”
MJ followed her friend to the window and looked outside. “Well, still on Earth seems like a plus? Maybe?” MJ didn’t always particularly love Earth, but she didn’t want to wake up in a different place without warning. Somehow she knew she wouldn’t always have the opportunity.
“Oh, it looks pretty outside?” MJ looked out the other window in their room. Somehow they ended up in a room with only one bed. Great. She saw her phone as well and unlocked it.
“So…this is new?”
“The last time I ended up somewhere else was when those angels were in town.” Liz couldn’t remember in that moment if MJ was around then. “There was another time we all woke up in the 80s… but we thought we were different people from then too. So this is… kind of less troubling.” Kind of.
She moved to the door to try the handle. It opened and led out into a corridor. She closed it and looked back at MJ. “At least we’re not locked in, so we’re probably not prisoners. Maybe this is… a good thing?” She paused. “We should probably check in on Peter and everyone else.”
The angels definitely happened before MJ’s arrival. “I think Alyssa mentioned the angels?” They sounded kind of familiar?
“Liz. I think I should find pants or something before I run in the hallway in just my t-shirt…” MJ appreciated her friend’s enthusiasm and wanted to find out things, just preferably in clothes.
“They sent people back in time. It was… not fun, but not overly dangerous, I guess.” Though she found out later it could have been.
“Oh.” Liz turned around and then blushed a little, mostly from embarrassment from not realizing that she and MJ weren’t wearing similar clothes. “Right. Sorry. I should… probably put on real clothes too.” The question was, did they have any.
She went to the closet and opened it. “There are some clothes here… which means there are probably clothes in the drawers too.” Liz saw a dress of hers, so it seemed like some of their clothes also came with them. This was definitely a Dome thing.
Liz moved to pick out some clothes to change into.
MJ located jeans, a bra, and a t-shirt, both of which seemed to be in her size and, upon further inspection, came from her room at Mia’s.
She went into the bathroom and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her toothbrush, toothpaste, and hairbrush. MJ changed quickly and brushed her teeth before dragging the brush through her hair.
A couple minutes later, MJ exited. “All yours and then let’s go find people.”
While MJ had been in the bathroom, Liz had changed into a t-shirt and jeans of her own. She wondered where they were, exactly, and why they were here. There had to be a reason, even if they could never figure it out. Liz was certain there were reasons to everything even if it was just to cause chaos.
When MJ came out, Liz didn’t head straight for the bathroom. “Are you okay?” Liz was ‘used’ to this sort of thing now, but she knew MJ was still relatively new.
“Nah. I am good. At least we have clothes now.” MJ grinned. “It’s weird, but I assume it could be worse.”
MJ opened the door. “I think we should find both food and Peter.” Her stomach rumbled at the mention of food.
“The room looks like a hotel so it probably means we’re on a cruise boat?” She looked at MJ to silently ask ‘are there other types of boats that have hotel rooms? Liz wasn’t sure. “If we’re on a cruise, then there has to be lots of food.” Well, typically from what she saw on TV ads and in movies. It could be some weird survival cruise thing, but if that was the case, Liz thought there’d be less electricity.
Liz disappeared briefly into the washroom and then came back out feeling as normal as you could feel having woken up somewhere new. She headed down the corridor. “Do you think they might have a directory? If this is a big ship, it might be next to impossible to find Peter without a plan.”
MJ pulled out her phone. “I just texted Peter. I figure that way he can actually tell us where he is and who his roommate is…” Because obviously his girlfriends were staying together.
She looked through her phone. “I think this is the directory?” Although trying to figure out where their room was in relation to the rest of the ship started to give MJ a migraine.
She glanced to the phone briefly. Texting Peter was a smart idea. Even though she’d been in ‘the future’ for over two years now, sometimes Liz still thought like someone whose cell phone wasn’t as all encompassing. “Maybe we should just tell him to meet us at a food place. Dont’ cruises normally have buffets? He has to be hungry too.” Probably freaked out a little, but they could explain things when he showed up.
“I’ve told him to meet us at what seems like the most likely place to have a buffet?” MJ never planned on a cruise. After all, they were wasteful and harmful to the environment.
“Shall we?” MJ asked as she opened the door.
Liz smiled and then nodded. She was feeling kind of good about this adventure. “Yeah. Let’s find out what’s happening.”
