Hermann wasn't sure what part of everything was weighing on him most, but if he had to try and decide? He would have to say the fact that honestly, he had no idea what kind of father he was going to be. Oh, he could make a reasonable guess -- he didn't seem to have scarred Baz, at the point when the young boy was from -- but when it all came right down to it? He didn't know. It was a complete uncertainty, and if there was one thing he didn't deal well in?
It was uncertainties.
The closest to fatherhood he'd gotten was first Marlene and then Amara. With Marlene, he'd pretty much just put a roof over her head and then gotten out of the way, and it was largely the same with Amara -- the only difference there was that the teenager flat out idolized him and made no bones about it, something that Hermann could ordinarily deal with. But there was a difference between raising teenagers and raising someone who was decidedly not a teenager. That whole hands off approach wasn't going to work.
He was the only one home, which meant that he didn't have to concern himself with anybody interrupting his worrying -- though he could probably do with that, considering how inside his own head he was getting. He could practically hear Vanessa sighing and telling him to stop that -- he'd had an even worse tendency to do that sort of thing back home, which probably wouldn't surprise anybody who even remotely knew him. But in Madison Valley, where his life was so much more normal than it had ever been, he didn't need to worry as much as he did.
But getting him to stop was... well, you'd probably have more success getting the dome to cooperate. Which was to say, none at all.
Shaking his head to try and chase off his thoughts, Hermann took his tea and headed for his office. If he was going to try distracting himself, he might as well do it somewhere distraction free.
Because Hermann tended to live in his office unless someone dragged him out.
Oh, alright, not quite that bad. But close sometimes.
As he settled in at his desk, though, he set an alarm on his phone so he'd actually remember to wrap up before the other two got home. It was always a surprise when he remembered to do that.
Especially for him.
