Who: The Doctor (Ten) and Jessica Jones What: Ten looks like KIlgrave. Where: Around town. When: The day he arrived. Warnings: A little language. Status: Completed GDoc.
There was something wrong with the TARDIS. This was definitely not where he was supposed to be. This was not where he told the TARDIS to take him, either. And… was that another TARDIS in the park? He made a mental note to check that one out, though it was not at the top of his list of priorities. He needed to figure out where (and when) he was. Then he would figure out why there was a second TARDIS around.
He made his way out of the park and into the main part of town. He was dressed as he normally was, in a suit and tie and glasses and converse sneakers. The Doctor ran his fingers through his hair as he walked through town. He was on edge, making sure that there was no danger or anything as he walked.
He spotted a dark haired woman wearing a good amount of leather. “Hey!” he called out. “Where am I?” he asked, as he tried to catch up with the particular woman.
Jessica had just finished up a job when she heard someone calling out to her. Her initial reaction was to ignore it and keep walking, albeit even faster than she was currently going. However, there was something about the voice that sounded hauntingly familiar and that was enough to coax Jessica into stopping.
Turning around, her eyes immediately landed on the all too familiar face of one Kilgrave. Jessica was momentarily stunned, frozen in place, staring at him with hooded eyes. It was impossible. She’d killed him, but no. This place could pull anyone from anywhere and finally, it had decided to pull Jessica’s worst nightmare here.
Without hesitation, Jessica grabbed him by the collar and slammed him into the nearest wall. “You’re in Madison Valley you sick son of a bitch. But don’t worry, your visit is going to be very, very short if I have anything to say about it.”
Well, that was a more hostile welcome than he was expecting. Apparently his game was a bit off. He blamed the fact that there had been another TARDIS in town when he landed. Had he landed? He couldn’t remember. All he knew was suddenly he was here, and he had no idea where here was.
At least now he knew that he was in Madison Valley and there was a dark haired woman highly upset with him.
“Either you remember something about us meeting that I seem to have forgotten, or you have me confused with someone else, ma’am,” he said, calmly. Little did he know, he looked like a man who had made Jessica’s life living hell for a long, long time.
“I am The Doctor,” he offered. Trying to remain calm.
Why wasn’t he trying to use his mind control bullshit on her yet? Normally, Kilgrave wouldn’t hesitate to try and control Jessica Jones. In fact, he wanted her because she was special, like him. She’d spent months under his control once upon a time and like hell would she ever do that again. Plus, he’d used Trish against her in the end. No, the son of a bitch earned all the hate in the world Jessica had for him, but he hadn’t used the damn control. Why?
“I’m pretty sure I don’t, Kilgrave. Don’t play dumb with me. You know exactly who I am.” At the mention of him being a doctor, Jessica laughed coldly. Yeah, he wished he was a fucking doctor.
“Yeah, maybe in your twisted dreams you're a doctor. We both know you’re just a bonafide psychopath.”
“I honestly have no idea who you are,” he told her. Apparently trying to convince her of who he was by repetition. He would have pulled out his psychic paper and have that convince her of who he was, but he had a feeling that if he reached into his pocket it wouldn’t turn out well.
He sighed softly, though. This wasn’t exactly how he planned on spending his day. Being accosted by a woman in leather who thought he was someone named Kilgrave. Which brought him to his next question. “Who is Kilgrave?”
The Doctor wasn’t too terribly concerned about her threats, though. He knew he’d somehow be able to convince her of his identity. “I am not a Doctor. I am the Doctor. I am a Time Lord from Gallifrey.”
Though he wasn’t sure any of that would mean anything to this woman. “Who are you?”
Jessica frowned. The more he talked, the more he was sounding less and less like Kilgrave and more like someone who merely looked exactly like him. After all, Kilgrave would have used his powers by now or made an attempt to. This man just succeeded in looking bewildered and confused. The P.I. didn’t know what to do. Every part of her screamed to kill him and yet, he wasn’t acting at all like Kilgrave.
After a moment, Jessica loosened her grip on his collar and stepped back, but only by a foot. She wanted to be close in case he tried anything…like running away.
“He’s a powerful son of a bitch that made my life a living hell. He has the ability to control others with mental manipulation. Considering you haven’t tried to use any mojo on me, let alone mind control, I am going to assume you are not him.” Jessica folded her arms on her chest and continued to study him with critical green eyes.
“I’m Jessica Jones. I’d say ‘Nice to meet you’, but given you look like the man I hate more than anything else and also, I don’t like social interaction anyway, I will pass,” Jessica added sarcastically.
The Doctor was definitely not Kilgrave. He was absolutely nothing like Kilgrave, or so he would like to think. And he definitely had no plans of running away, onces Jessica loosened her grip on him. He was intrigued by this woman, and by the fact that there was a man out there who looked exactly like him.
Though it didn’t appear that he was in Madison Valley, or Jessica wouldn’t have reacted the way he did upon seeing him.
“I do not blame you,” he said. “He sounds like a git.” Which was putting it lightly, really. “I would apologize for my appearance, but I can’t control it. It’s what the regeneration decided I should look like.” He shrugged at this.
“Where am I?” he asked.
“Regeneration?” Jessica looked confused. The P.I. have never heard of anything like that before. “Is that like advanced cosmetic surgery or something?” It could shape his appearance so it kind of fit that description. Then again, he said he was a time lord or something too so maybe it was something far in the future.
At the question, Jessica glanced around, but she didn’t see any members of that creepy welcoming committee hanging around. Obviously, they hadn’t caught up to the Doctor yet. And there was another someone called the Doctor wasn’t there? It was just about to get a lot more confusing around Madison Valley. Great.
“You’re in a small town in Indiana called Madison Valley,” Jessica answered after a moment. “It doesn’t look like the welcoming committee or whatever the hell they are has caught up to you yet.”
“When I die, or if it’s just time, I regenerate. I look like a completely different person, but I am still the same person. Kind of. I have the same memories, and I’m essentially still myself, I’m just… different.” He wasn’t explaining it well, he knew that. But at least he was trying. That counted for something, right?
Right.
“Madison Valley, Indiana? Okay.” That was at least something. “What year is it?” he asked. It was a completely legitimate question. WIth all that wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff he went through.
“Sounds more like reincarnation,” Jessica replied bluntly. Didn’t those people come back with memories of their previous lives and look different? Either way, at least he explained roughly why he looked like Jessica’s worst nightmare. Sort of. The P.I. was still suspicious, but she was starting to come around to the idea that he wasn’t Kilgrave. At least, outside of appearance.
“It’s 2022. Being that you are a ‘time lord’ or whatever, what time were you aiming for exactly?” Jessica was curious. She didn’t know a lot about the Doctor that was here, but she was assuming they operated the same.
“I suppose it could be considered to be reincarnation of sorts. There is only so much time I am to be in one regeneration, though, then it’s time for me to regenerate into another. It isn’t as though I get old, die, then am born a baby.” He wasn’t human, Time Lords didn’t work that way.
He considered Jessica’s question for a moment. “Well. I definitely wasn’t aiming for Indiana in 2022. That was a very boring time, really. Boring place.”
Little did he know that Madison Valley wasn’t exactly boring. It had it’s moments.
“And yes, I am a Time Lord. From Galifrey.”
“Then you skip all the shitty parts of life. Congrats.” Jessica, despite her abilities, was human. She would grow old and she would die without the possibility of even reincarnation in her future. Major bummer.
Jessica smirked. “Good deduction and guess what? You’re stuck here for the foreseeable future.” All refugees were until Madison Valley decided to send them back home or to their death. In most cases, neither was welcoming. “At least until this place sends you back.” “I’ve never heard of any of that, but you called yourself ‘The Doctor’ and I’m pretty sure there is another one of you running around town. Except, it’s a girl.”
“Except I still have to deal with some shitty parts of life,” he said. Like wiping Donna’s memories. That was pretty shitty. But he didn’t like to think about that, so he focused on what Jessica said next.
“I can’t leave?” he repeated. Well, that explained why the TARDIS decided it didn’t want to work once they landed here. It meant that there was no interdimensional space travel or anything. It was unfortunate.
That didn’t mean he had to accept it. He would have to see for himself.
“There’s another Doctor? That explains the other TARDIS in the park…”
“I meant more so like skipping the slim that is high school,” Jessica clarified. “I don’t think anyone can completely skip all the shitty aspects of life.” Even though Jessica did her best to avoid situations that put her in places where she could be involved in those “shitty” aspects. Hence why she preferred to be alone. Sherlock was an exception. At least while the Dome let him stay here.
At his question, Jessica firmly shook her head. “Nope. I’d love to see you try though.” It was pretty boring around here and that would definitely provide some decent entertainment.
“And yeah, it’s a woman. I don’t know her well though.” Or really at all.
“Ah, yes. Mandatory schooling.” The Doctor was glad he didn’t have to go through that. He had to go through a lot, but definitely not that. Though sometimes he would prefer high school over losing the ones he loved. At least there was a higher chance of keeping those he was close to around.
“That is… interesting. Never been a woman before. Is she ginger?”
Ah, the Doctor. Asking the important questions.
“That’s a proper way of putting hellhole, but yes.” From the way he referred to it, it sounded as if he had dodged that particular bullet. Lucky bastard. Of all the questions to ask, he was asking if she was a redhead. Jessica barely suppressed the urge to roll her eyes.
“No, she's blond.” Jessica didn’t particularly know anything else about this Doctor. She was as much a mystery to Jessica as he was. “Of course, you could always go find out for yourself.”
“I suppose I will,” he said, softly. “If there is another Doctor here, and another TARDIS… I suppose I should have to investigate.” He just hoped the blonde, female Doctor didn’t try to kill him like this dark haired woman had. He wasn’t sure he would handle attempts on his life twice in one day.
“It was a pleasure meeting you, but now I feel I must go meet another version of myself,” he told Jessica.
A statement that made sense to him, and possibly only to those who knew him.
