It was early, earlier than most people would probably be in the park, but that was part of what Spender liked about getting his run in at that time of day -- it was quiet, almost peaceful, before the day started or the town got up to something. Occasionally both. He liked the peaceful side of things. His life had been anything but peaceful for so long -- because even before getting sucked into the hot mess at a minimum that was his family drama, things hadn't exactly been peaceful. You didn't do four field offices in a little over eight years, didn't work the divisions he had, and get to call your life anything remotely approaching calm.
He ran not so much to keep in shape as it was to let his mind disengage for a while in a way that it didn't do otherwise. When he was out for a run, everything just fell away.
Finally, though, Spender came to a stop and took a swig from the water bottle he carried. He glanced around as he caught his breath, just watching the world.
