Kristoff found himself with some free time this evening. He wanted to take Sven for a walk, but Sven had fallen asleep early. Turns out he was still exhausted from his play time with the bunnies the day before. Not that Kristoff blamed his reindeer best friend, because the bunnies were adorable and really seemed to like Sven.

Instead, Kristoff decided to go get a beer at one of the bars in town after dinner. He liked beer and as someone who drank it at home, one beer didn’t affect his ability to work the next morning, which he appreciated.

After his walk, he took a seat at the bar and debated which beer he wanted to drink for the evening.

It was a typical Monday evening for the bar. Slow and steady, mostly regulars who didn’t cause any issues, which made it so that Peter could get all the paperwork from the previous weekend done and go through inventory so he could place the weekly bar order. It also meant a light staff, and he filled in when people went on break or had to run to get something.

Peter was the one behind the bar when Kristoff made his way in, and he gave the other man a few minutes to look at the menu before approaching him. “Have you figured out what you want? Or did you want an opinion on what we have?”

Kristoff shrugged in an apologetic manner. The guy seemed nice enough, but beer in this town still sometimes confused Kristoff. They had so many more options than back home and sometimes the descriptions didn’t help.

“I’m still trying to figure out what some of the descriptions mean for your beers,” he admitted. “It’s not you, just there are so many more options than back at home.” And as someone who didn’t drink a lot, he hadn’t explored as much as one might thing.

There was a short laugh from Peter, because he agreed wholeheartedly. “It’s not just the big brewers either. Anyone with half an ounce of sense and a decent set up is shelling out their own ‘unique’ brew.”

He turned and grabbed a bottle of Butterbeer from the cooler. “Case in point, one of the refugees went and recreated a beer from his world. Not a lot of alcohol in it, and it’s sweet, but still a decent beer. Then there’s a local that does something strange with strawberries and rhubarb, but it’s actually pretty good. A bit hoppier than I like, but it works.”

There wasn’t a lot to do in town, and some people had peculiar hobbies.

Kristoff nodded. “It feels like everyone and their uncles make beer now.” And while the options probably meant good things for some people, to Kristoff it felt overwhelming. Very much so.

“I’d give either of those a try.” He thought longer. “How sweet are we talking?” Kristoff dealt with a lot of sweet things from living with Anna and Elsa. “I mean, people even put chocolate in beer.” He’d seen a beer with chocolate at the liquor store and it had thrown him.

“I’ve had a really good coffee flavored beer, and a chocolate red wine. Chocolate beer is a no for me.” There were worse things to put in beer, but chocolate still wasn’t going to be his go to any time soon. Or ever actually.

He popped open the bottle and set it in front of Kristoff. “It has a butterscotch flair, but not as sweet as that. It’s a mild sweet, if that makes sense.”

Kristoff’s eyes widened at the mention of coffee. “Beer with coffee exists?” Okay, now that was something Kristoff needed to try. He’d developed quite the taste for coffee beverages since his arrival. At one point, he’d gone through the whole menu at Starbucks. Until he learned you could customize drinks and that opened up a whole new world for him.

He took a sip and smiled. “I like it. Just a bit sweet, without overpowering.” After another taste, he said, “Wow. No, that's really good.”

“They’re putting coffee in everything now. There are even spice rubs for meat that call for coffee.” Because beer had been used for that stuff for centuries. Coffee was a new one though.

“It is good. He’s also come up with a good duplicate of another drink from his world, but it’s a lot stronger than beer.” And one that Peter charged through the nose for, because it packed one hell of a punch, even for werewolves.

“The joke store at the community center carries six packs off it if you want to buy some to take home.”

Kristoff pulled out his phone and made a note about a coffee rub. While he was currently toying with the idea of going vegetarian or vegan, he still wanted to try a coffee rub. Then he looked embarrassed about being rude. “Sorry. I just didn’t want to forget.”

He listened and then asked, “What’s in the other drink?” Not that he needed something strong, but he definitely felt curious about it. “I’ll have to visit the joke store in the community centre then.” After another sip, he added, “I think this is a drink my fiancée would like. She’s all about sweet things.” And he could drink it too without feeling like he needed to visit a dentist.

Peter waved off his apology, because he was guilty of doing the same thing, even in the middle of meetings. “Don’t worry about it. Just avoid the ones say to turn them into wet rubs, because the chocolate does something weird with the spices and it doesn’t taste right.”

He was very picky when it came to his meat.

At the question about the other drink, Peter turned and pointed at a bottle on the shelf behind him, that looked almost as if there were flames in the liquor. “Fire whiskey. I’m not sure what’s in it, but It’s smooth and strong.”

He nodded at the suggestion. “Dry rubs only. Got it.” While Kristoff was not fantastic at cooking, he greatly enjoyed learning about it and dry rubs sounded like a good way to branch out more.

“Whoa!” Kristoff stared at the bottle and then said, “I think I’ll save that for another night.” While he could be adventurous, he liked to keep his adventures to food and drink that wouldn’t knock him on his ass. “The guy who makes it must be talented.”

“He’s okay.” Peter wasn’t the type to puff up a magic user’s ego, mostly because he still didn’t trust them all that much.

He noticed a new group come in and nodded to them. “If you need anything else, just let me know,” he said to Kristoff. “I’m going to make sure these people are taken care of.”

Kristof nodded. “Thanks again.” He’d probably finish this drink and head home.
