Max was still trying to process that yes, he was technically from the past. Technology had advanced quickly and so had a lot of other things. On his end, he didn't really care who liked who. It wasn't something that ever reached his radar. Maybe it was the fact he was an alien who knew what it was like to have to hide who he was, but he thought people should just be who they were and be done with it. He wasn't naïve enough to think the world thought like that, though, otherwise he'd be out as an alien to everyone himself.
