That's it exactly, it's about dignity. You don't want anyone you care about to be the subject of malicious gossip in the streets. And of course people knowing who you are doesn't mean you'll suddenly attain perfection. It does mean you have to be careful what you let them know of you - but I don't have to tell you that, that's your very trade, isn't it? You know the proper ways to manage information.

Letting people die unnecessary-like over threat of change would be wrong, but so too would be making alterations to people's lives without proper care for consequence.
