There are worse worlds than this one to end up in, though naturally I wouldn't count mine as one of them. I'd say that you'd do fine in Gilead if you had me to help you along and you did as I told you...but then I thought on it and I reckon there's not much chance of you doing that, so mayhap you're right.
It depends, doesn't it? If you've the command of a whole army or...whatever the equivalent is for your situation, then you can't keep everyone from harm. It's futile to even try, you'd burn yourself out right quick with a conscience like that. You need to be able to make those decisions. If it's not on that scale, though...well, a few months after I went back to my world? There were...circumstances and Alain and I ended up carrying and carting poor Roland half-way across Mid-World when he'd not get up nor barely speak to us, and with the enemy just behind in pursuit. It would have been...unthinkable to either of us to leave him, even if it increased our chances of survival so dramatic-like. So it depends on which side of the scale Shaun falls.
It's...it's made me laugh now. It shouldn't, but it has. Some idiot told my father I was dead, too, and then failed completely in actually killing me. I wouldn't have thought such idiocy was world-spanning, but apparently it is. Whatever's the matter with seeing to the killing first and leaving the gloating 'til after?
