Who: David Rose and Loki Laufeyson (plus a daughter) What: Kid Plot shenanigans! Where: Loki's apartment. When: First day of kid plot. Warnings: Low. Status: Completed via GDoc. Closed.
David didn’t usually fall asleep so quickly during his shenanigans with Loki. He had been absolutely exhausted the night before, though. Not tired to the point that he couldn’t have a little fun with Loki before falling asleep, but tired enough to where he’d fallen asleep shortly after. Which explained why he was still in Loki’s bed that morning. He was impressed the other man hadn’t sent him home.
He yawned, stretching slightly as he woke up. His waking up was hastened by the fact that the moment he opened his eyes, a young girl was in the room with them. A young girl who exclaimed “Daddy! You’re awake!” the moment his eyes were open.
“What the…” David blinked a couple of times, trying to see if he was hallucinating. “Loki, if this is one of your illusions, it isn’t funny…” He nudged Loki, attempting to get the Trickster God to wake up.
—
Loki and David had an understanding. They fooled around, enjoyed each other’s company and bodies, but they weren’t together. They weren’t in a relationship. Loki wasn’t sure he was interested in that sort of thing with David (or anyone). He was convinced he would make a very, very terrible significant other.
But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to enjoy their time together. Especially when David did that thing with his tongue, or when Loki was able to take him from behind. No, Loki was more than happy to have dinner, to drink, to fuck, to cuddle, to sleep with David in his arms. And last night they’d done all of those things.
This morning, though, Loki was scowling, still mostly asleep. “What?” He murmured. There was a reason he often sent David home after they had sex. He didn’t like being woken this way.
__
“You should know Father doesn’t like being woken up by now, Daddy,” the girl-child piped up.
David eyed the young girl for a moment, “We’re both your father?” When the girl nodded, David sighed softly. “Loki, it appears we have a daughter.” This was not what David had expected to come out of the day. He had hoped to possibly have a little more fun with Loki upon waking, then going on about his business for the rest of the day. This did not mesh with his plans well at all.
“Please wake up, Loki….”
—-
The words Father and Daddy caught the sleepy Loki’s attention. Especially because they came out of a small child’s high-pitched voice. He lifted his head and glanced around the room, eyes falling on the dark-haired girl. Then he sat up a little in his bed.
It was a truly remarkable show of self-control that he didn’t start panicking. A daughter??
“Hello,” he spoke softly. “...what’s your name?” How… how was this possible? Some kind of magic? Was the Dome doing this to them?
__
The Dome was likely doing this to them. David had already made that deduction. How else would he have a daughter with Loki? Their relationship wasn’t even at a beyond-sexual level. Sure, there was friendship to it, but a daughter? This was not what David had planned for his relationship with anyone.
“My name’s Astrid, of course,” she said, offering Loki an indulgent smile. She sat tentatively on the edge of the bed, peering at her parents.
“You don’t remember me,” she said, disappointed.
—
Loki sat up, lifting a hand to brush hair from his face, rub the sleep from his eyes. He didn’t like the idea that he had a daughter, but he wasn’t surprised. This place was full of chaos magic. Chaos magic and a nasty sense of humor.
He swung his legs over the side of the bed and stretched. Thankfully, he always slept with pants on, even after sexual escapades. He had to be clean and covered in order to sleep properly. Otherwise, this might have been more than his daughter would want to see.
“I’m sorry, Astrid. I don’t remember you. But that doesn’t mean I don’t care.” He offered kindly. “Why don’t we go have a cup of tea, hmm? You can tell me all about you.” With a quick glance at David, Loki climbed from the bed to lead the way out into the kitchen to put on the kettle.
__
Astrid tilted her head slightly, and nodded at Loki’s suggestion to go have a cup of tea. She liked tea. “Are you coming, Daddy?” she asked, before heading out to follow Loki into the kitchen. David sighed softly, rubbing a hand over his face. He knew Madison Valley liked to do things to its residents, he just hadn’t expected this.
Luckily, he had put on pants before falling asleep as well. So all he had to do was follow Astrid and Loki into the kitchen, padding silently behind the two.
“Do you have coffee here?” he asked. “I’ll make it, I just… need something stronger than tea.” At David’s question, Astrid pointed to the coffee maker, “I think so,” she said.
—
It might have been a shock to David how kind Loki was with the little girl. How gentle. Loki had a soft spot for small children, remembering his own upbringing in Asgard. He’d always felt out of place, and never knew why. Looking back made him understand how frustrating childhood was, and how far a kind word could go.
Loki was already filling the kettle when David followed them in. He glanced back, then smirked when Astrid pointed to the coffee maker. “She’s quite brilliant, isn’t she?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at the girl who was unmistakably his daughter. “And possibly the most beautiful girl who has ever lived.”
He set the kettle on the stove, then opened the cupboard where the coffee supplies were.
“Tell me, Astrid, do you take after your grandmother, Frigga? Or are you more like your Daddy David?” …did she have magic?
__
“She is brilliant and beautiful,” David agreed. He was about to go in search of the coffee supplies, when he noticed Loki had already started on brewing a pot of coffee. Of course he had. Loki seemed less surprised about this whole situation than David did, He was glad for that. Glad for the fact that at least one of them wasn’t absolutely, completely nervous about this whole situation.
Astrid appeared to consider Loki’s question for a moment. Then, with a slight flick of her hand, the coffee pot started brewing coffee for David. Answering Loki’s question without having to actually say the words.
“Ah, my new favorite person,” David said, when he smelled the scent of the coffee brewing.
—
Loki was shocked, and trying his best to deal with that shock… but seeing Astrid, he somehow knew this was his child. She was magical and had this edge of intelligence and sarcasm that Loki could feel bubbling just under the surface. Loki had never really thought he wanted children of his own--or he’d thought if he did, he had plenty of time to create them. Now, however, he was starting to think about it. This little one was perfect.
“A bit crude,” Loki mused with a smirk, “but it’s a start. I have many things to teach you, little one. If you are inclined to learn them.” He started about the kitchen, putting together breakfast for their small, dysfunctional family.
__
“Did you just call her making me coffee crude, Loki?” He arched an eyebrow at the man. “I think it’s brilliant.” Of course he did. It was coffee. Coffee that he hadn’t had to make on his own. Astrid beamed up at David for a moment, pleased that he had stood up for her. Of course he had, though, because it was his daughter.
A daughter he’d never planned to have, but his daughter nonetheless.
Astrid then nodded, exuberantly. “I would love to learn, Father.” She wanted to learn as much as possible. She was a quick learner, and loved doing so.
—
“Not the coffee, the magic.” Loki insisted. “It’s crude, but gets the job done. I don’t know what your Father was thinking.” Loki himself would have done a much better job of teaching her the finesse of magic that he’d learned from his mother, that he had perfected over his thousand plus years as a magic practitioner.
“I would love to teach you, Astrid.” What a spitfire. Loki felt pride welling up within him. “We'll start today. This afternoon.”
__
“Can Daddy stay with us today?” Astrid asked. “I know he can’t do magic, but he can at least stay, right?” She looked hopeful when she asked, and David couldn’t bear it. He loved her already, which wasn’t something he had expected. He hadn’t expected to have a child with Loki, or with anyone. Let alone love said child as much as he loved Astrid right now.
“How can you say no to that face, Loki?” he asked, smirking slightly. He had a feeling that Astrid was going to get whatever she wanted for as long as she was in town.
At least, if he had anything to do with it, she would.
—
Loki turned to look at David and gave a gentle shrug of his shoulders. “Daddy is welcome to stay,” he responded to his daughter. His daughter. He was so proud.
“Don’t teach her bad habits, David,” he responded, smirking softly. She could get away with anything in the whole world, but Loki didn’t want her getting spoiled. He didn’t want her knowing the power she had over people. At least, not so early in life. That was the sort of thing he’d had to earn.
…then again, maybe he wanted her to know what incredible power she had.
__
David smiled a bit at Loki’s words, at the permission he’d been given to stay. Not that he felt that he needed permission to stay there with their daughter, but he liked that he’d gotten it anyway. He leaned in and placed a quick kiss on Loki’s cheek before locating a coffee cup for the delicious coffee Astrid had made.
As he poured the coffee, he nodded slightly. “No bad habits for you, Astrid,” he said.
He knew that Astrid would likely be able to get away with anything and everything, but it was probably good if she wasn’t aware of that fact. Aware of the power she held over her parents.
