Who: Barbara & Elena What: Portal; Matchup; G-doc to be completed in comments When: 1/12/22 Where: Pompeii of course! Rating: low
Barbara had heard about portals that sometimes popped up around here, which had sparked her curiosity. It was the reason why she had decided to go check the newest one out once word got around about it. Maybe she should’ve let the few people she knew around here know, just in case something went wrong. However, Barbara was able to take care of herself. Her batons were secured right where they always were. Heading over to the portal, she rolled her wheelchair into the portal and was impressed when she got through to the other side.
She’d think with Gotham that nothing could catch her off guard, but Madison was something else. Finding herself in Pompeii was something she never thought possible, but here she was with some new clothes to fit in. Not like that was completely possible given the wheelchair, but she was used to people looking at her and learned to ignore it. Taking in the sights, Barbara always made sure to know what was going on around her, even if it may not have looked like it. Stopping in front of a stand with some jewelry, she looked them over. Doing some window shopping with the thought of maybe coming back later to buy anything that caught her attention.
— How long had it been since Elena explored a portal? Honestly, Elena could not remember, which was even more of a reason for her to explore the Pompeii portal that had recently opened up in Madison Valley. Obviously, it was a place Elena had never been to and she was eager to explore what adventures it might hold.
Keeping her dress casual, Elena made her way to the location of the portal and stepped inside. Immediately, she was overwhelmed by the scenery. It was clearly dated, but beautiful and Elena took a moment to look around her in awe before venturing forward. Her clothes had switched over into those more fitting for the time period and after a quick glance in her purse, she realized the cash she had in there was now of the correct currency. Madison really never ceased to amaze her.
She snapped a few photos on her phone before making her way to the nearest stand; it displayed plenty of colorful jewelry and clearly some pieces that were worth far more. There was already a woman looking at the wares, but Elena wasn’t sure if she’d run into her until now. Being that she was situated in a wheelchair, Elena knew she was probably from Madison Valley too. At the very least, she figured she should introduce herself and she might have wanted to buy one of those necklaces.
She offered the vendor a friendly smile as well as the woman. “Quite the selection they have. I wasn’t thinking of buying anything, but seeing this stand kind of tempts me.” — Barbara knew she probably stuck out like a sore thumb considering her whole situation. Though over the years, she didn’t get self-conscious or annoyed like she once did at people’s attention drawn to the wheelchair or the missing leg. Honestly, she tended to ignore it since as long as they didn’t try to paint her as a damsel in distress, then she didn’t really care.
Thanks to all the training, she noticed the woman coming up besides her even without glancing over. Checking out a few pieces of the jewelry, debating on which ones she may end up buying. Maybe she’d pick up something for Rachel or see if the girl wanted to come over while the portal was open. Barbara hadn’t had much of a chance to get to know the young woman, which this was her chance while they were stuck in Madison Valley.
“It’s a great way to remember your time around here,” she replied with a smile, turning her attention finally on the woman. “But I agree about the comment on the selection. Makes it hard to pick one that stands out above the others,” Barbara wasn’t even sure what else was being sold around here. Last thing she needed was to go broke on the first stand, especially considering she still hadn’t found a job in town.

Somehow, despite the wheel chair, Elena knew the young woman before her was hardly a pushover. Anyone that thought they needed saving wouldn’t come through this portal and be so confident about it. Then again, Elena could be completely wrong in her judgment. Still, anyone willing to venture into a portal with a disability had to know they could handle themselves. Plus, the woman seemed at ease as she returned Elena’s smile and responded.
“Exactly. And I wouldn’t want to spend all my money in one place either.” Elena was employed in Madison Valley as a photographer, but she’d only brought a select amount of cash with her for this particular venture. She figured that was the best way to keep herself from spending too much.

Barbara was definitely better at socializing and meeting people compared to other people she knew from her world. If she was going to be forced to endure the whole being stuck and the oddness that popped up, then she knew she needed to meet people. Now with the holidays over, it was the perfect time to get to know people without everyone trying to prepare for the holidays. So this was a very welcomed conversation by Barbara.
“No, cause that’s when you’d find something you really want and you’re out of luck on the money front,” she shook her head with a small laugh. “Got to keep myself in check and not go all shopper crazy,” Barbara held her hands up as if she was holding herself back from going off the deep end with shopping. Not that this was a real worry cause Barbara had control, but hey, she could joke. “I’m Barbara,” she introduced herself to the other woman. —
Being Alpha of one of the packs in town, Elena knew it was important for her to meet new people. Plus, Elena knew she wasn’t exactly the socializing type. Coming to Madison Valley, she’d definitely stepped out of her shell more, but it also helped that she didn’t have to hide what she was here. Being more open about what she was allowed her to make friends because she didn’t have to lie about half her life.
As Barbara held up her hands, the blond chuckled. She wasn’t one to go “shopper crazy” either, but she could appreciate the sentiment all the same. It made her like Barbara even more.
“Elena, it’s nice to meet you, Barbara,” she returned. “And my handcuffs would be the set amount of money in my pocket. I figured that might keep me in check, but if everything looks as tempting as this stuff? It’s going to be difficult.”
