Who: Alex Stern and Eve Levine
What: mistletoe shenanigans
Where: Starbucks
When: Dec 19 morning
Warnings: TBD - should be low
Alex didn’t know what to make of her life here sometimes. For starters, she had a job with a salary. She didn’t need to worry about food or rent. In fact, she seriously considered a house purchase in the New Year. Mostly, Alex wanted out of her apartment even if it meant no more free rent.
But, here with boredom meant she sometimes thought about getting high just for shit and giggles. Alex hadn’t yet, but she realized how easy those old habits might become.
Today, though, Alex wanted a strong cup of caffeine before she finished the last of her shopping. Mostly she wanted to get cards for Rebekah, Claudia, and Irina. While she knew she didn’t need to do so, she’d found a really pretty ornament to give to Rebekah. Plus, she wanted to get something for Eve. While the woman hadn’t needed to keep ghosts away from Alex, she still appreciated the gesture. But what did one get for a half angel/ghost?
She’d just placed her order and noticed Eve in line behind her. “Hey Eve,” was what she said as she moved out of the line and found herself pulled a little further to the right. ...okay?
***
It was cold out and Eve disliked that immensely, but she did have to admit that it was nice to be able to order coffee again. She decided she might as well order something ‘festive’ since she could. “Slave to caffiene like the rest of us?” Which was ‘Eve’ for ‘hello’.
Eve decided to order something more festive because why the hell not? When she moved to wait, she, too, felt pulled. Being Eve, she resisted more than was probably necessary, but she was not someone who liked to get pushed around. It didn’t seem to actually stop it, though, and Eve ended up closer to Alex than anyone should while waiting in Starbucks.
“Are you wearing an angel magnet or something?”
–
Alex snorted. “No angel magnet from this person.” She really wanted the cinnamon hot chocolate she ordered, but apparently instead Alex had to stand inches away from Eve.
“Do…does this usually happen to you, because this is a damn first for me.” And Alex did not like it as the barista called out her order.
***
Eve let out a small pfft sound. “No. Usually the stuff that happens to me is more painful.” This was her lot in life, basically. This just seemed inconvenient. Now if it had been someone super annoying, Eve might be a little more pissed.
She tried to move a few ways before she got annoyed again. Annoyed, her head fell back as she let out a frustrated sigh, but the sigh stopped in mid huff when she saw the mistletoe. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
–
As Eve tried to move, Alex did as well, mostly because she wanted her drink, very much, thank you. As she felt certain Eve did as well.
Alex looked upwards and did not stop the onslaught of swear words which left her mouth. “Fucking shit! Are you fucking for real, Dome?!” Yes, she addressed the Dome like a person. And, before either of them could think about it, Alex grabbed Eve’s hand and kissed it like a medieval knight. “Maybe that will work?”
***
Eve had no issue with addressing the Dome like a person or yelling at it either. She was all for it, in fact. It messed with them enough that it deserved whatever it got coming to it. It was just a shame that the Dome probably had no feelings or real sentience to feel bad about all this.
Before Eve could really think about how to solve the problem, Alex had her hand in her own and Eve’s hand was kissed. It was almost instant when Eve felt the release, but she took a step back to prove it. “Looks like. Though I’m going to try not to feel insulted you didn’t think these lips were good enough to kiss.” Her tone was joking alongside her expression. She knew Alex’s various reasons for not necessarily going full smooch.
–
The fucking dome definitely messed with them often enough. At the release, Alex moved lightning fast to grab her drink. The barista offered to remake it, if it cooled off too much during the shenanigans.
She laughed. “You’re hot and it would not be a hardship to kiss you, but a wrist seemed easier without enthusiastic consent.” And how could anyone really give consent in a fucking situation like this? And for Alex, she went through enough of her life in non-consent giving situations.
Alex sipped her drink and figured it was still warm enough to keep drinking.
***
Eve wasn’t as desperate to get her drink, but she did take a sip of her own to figure out if it was hot enough. Like Alex, she determined that it was hot enough to enjoy. She didn’t need things scalding hot unless she was in a mood.
“It always bummed people out when they found out I’m not super into girls. Like somehow that’d make things hotter. Or maybe they thought they could get me into a threesome.” Eve wasn’t totally not into women - she was on the spectrum for sure - but she definitely leaned more towards men. It didn’t help when you had your former-lover both when alive and while dead in the village too, which is why she was occasionally overcompensating with hookups. A perfect picture of well-adjusted.
She took another sip of her coffee. “It’s too bad the orgies don’t happen more often.”
–
“I prefer women, but men tend to be easier to hook up with.” Alex sipped her drink. Len still proved her biggest mistake in life.
“Yeah, the orgy was fun. How was Kenny?” Alex thought Kenny a perfect hookup. They could hang out a bit, hookup, and then she could go home and not give it another thought. “I kind of like the woman I hooked up with, which is not how I saw the orgy going.
***
It was weird. “He was better than I was expecting. Before Kristof most of the men I had sex with were pretty lackluster, so I went in with low expectations. Thankfully Kenny raised the bar.” She should have taken this opportunity to go out more and have some more ‘fun’ and yet, then was the only time. “Kind of like, huh? For another hook up or to get some coffee?” Eve glanced at the cup in her hand and then wiggled her eyebrows a little with a smirk, joking.
–
Alex raised an eyebrow at lacklustre. Who were these dudes? Alex certainly could see certain situations, but not with Eve.
“Both? I think both. But I am not good with these sorts of things. Or Christmas shopping, which I definitely need to accomplish.”
***
“I can help you more with one thing than the other.” The Christmas shopping she could do more easily. “The other one that only advice I have is that whole ‘talk to people’ thing, but I’m not good at that myself so let’s focus on the Christmas shopping.” Eve had time and Alex was a friend. She was happy to give Alex some company.
