Katie was at the age where grocery shopping was no longer a complete adventure. Handling a little kid was hard enough, but handling a telekinetic little kid? Even moreso. And alright, yes, his daughter was still a kid. But now she was a kid that was old enough to understand the concepts of "not right now" and "be careful". He would never stifle his daughter's abilities, but he was trying to curb her usage of them as much as possible until she was older and had a little more control.
There were reasons they didn't have a whole lot of breakable stuff on display in the condo. He was perfectly fine with Katie learning with her abilities there.
He had Katie with him as he did the shopping, grateful for the fact that she was also at an age where she didn't need to sit in the cart anymore. Or want to, actually. Yes, it meant he had to keep an eye on her as they walked, but he preferred to look at it as just another display of how his little girl was growing up.
Given the crazy of Black Friday, which -- as it always did -- was still bleeding over a little, Adam was keeping Katie right next to him. Things weren't actually happening, no, but people were still a little twitchy and he preferred having her closer. But as tended to happen, while trying to keep Katie out of people's way, he wound up getting in someone's way himself.
"Sorry," he apologized, flashing the person a quick and sheepish smile.
