Dean was beyond exhausted, to the point he was ready to cry. Even though he had been looked over by a doctor, he wasn’t given anything for the pain and the holding cell was less than comfortable. Combined with the few hours of sleep he had been getting most nights, he didn’t even know how he was functioning. He had been to see the judge and bail was set, posted by Lisa an hour later. He made his way out of the prison tiredly, his hand running over his face, squinting in the bright sunlight. Lisa was there waiting for him and he just looked at her with a sheepish smile. It was the first time he had ever gone through the entire process, despite being arrested on multiple occasions, and he had to say he was not a fan. “Hey, babe. How’s it going?” Lisa hadn’t slept very much either despite having a comfy bed to reside in. Dean hadn’t come home the night before. He’d called and kindly let her know he was spending the night in jail until his bail was set the next day. At first, Lisa thought it was a nightmare, but then Lisa remembered that any of her nightmares involving Dean were usually far worse than him ending up in jail. Though she was upset, Lisa obviously agreed to bail Dean out once his bail was posted. In the morning, she dressed and headed over to the courthouse to post bail and Dean appeared a few moments later, looking much worse for wear than herself. He looked horrible and exhausted. Despite being angry, Lisa’s heart went out to him. It was clear his fight with Alec had not gone well. She wondered if Alec looked just as bad as Dean. “Don’t ‘hey babe’ me,” Lisa greeted, folding her arms upon her chest. “What were you thinking? Fighting in a bar? Ending up in jail? Dean, you could have been seriously injured.” "It just sort of happened, alright?" Dean groaned dramatically, shaking his head. "He said something about me having daddy issues and I snapped. I couldn't help myself, and I'm not sorry about it." There was a brief pause as he considered what he had just said. "Well, I'm sorry that I upset you. But that's about it." He just wanted to get in the damn car and go home so he could take a shower and get in bed. "I've got Cas, he's an angel, and he can heal me if I ask. So, if I happened to end up injured pretty badly, I would just ask him to fix it. No big deal, Lis. It's not like I asked him to kick me through the window." His body ached all over and it was still a little difficult to breathe. "Can we just go home now, please?" Lisa sighed. Well, at least he was sorry he upset her. It was better than him not being sorry at all. Being that they were both running low on sleep and patience, it was the best Lisa could hope for at the moment. Maybe after a shower and sleep, he would be more apologetic and see things clearer. It was a big maybe. Lisa knew how stubborn Dean was after all. “I’ll take it.” Lisa replied simply. “But I expect the full grovel after you’ve had a shower and a nap.” Okay, she was mostly kidding about that. She doubted she’d ever get a grovel of any kind from Dean. Threw a window? “You went through a window and it was no big deal? Are you kidding me?” Lisa walked around to the passenger side of the car and opened the door. “I’m sure Lou didn’t think it wasn’t a big deal either right? Yeah, let’s go home.” Lisa waited until he’d settled into the passenger side before she shut the door and slid into the driver seat. Despite being upset still, she took a deep breath, put the car in gear and took them home. “After you rest up, you should probably have Cas heal you.” Lisa turned into their driveway and hit the garage door opener. "Why do I gotta grovel for?" Dean pouted a bit over that, but then she was expressing obvious concern about the whole window thing. "Yeah, well, the window is not my problem. That little shit is going to pay to replace it." He shrugged it off, not really caring too much either way. He fell into the seat with a groan and leaned back, hissing in pain before sitting up again. The ride home was completely silent and Dean just stared out the window. "I don't need Cas to heal me. I can deal with it, it's not the worst." Once she pulled into the garage and turned off the engine he got out of the car and went inside, going straight to the kitchen for a beer. "You didn't have to cancel a class or anything, did you?" “Because you made me worried.” Lisa replied simply, watching as he headed straight to the kitchen and grabbed a beer. The move didn’t surprise Lisa. Neither did his refusal for help from Cas. Lisa dropped her purse on the kitchen counter and made her way to the fridge, reaching around him to take a bottle of water. Though, at this rate, she was tempted for something stronger too. Twisting off the cap, she took a sip from the bottle before responding. “No. My classes are all in the late afternoon and evening today. You got lucky.” Lisa took another sip before reaching and taking the beer out of his hand. “Why don’t you grab a shower and some rest? The beer will be here when you get up.” Okay, he supposed that was something he could get behind. He really didn't like making her worry, and he did feel bad about that. "Would a pair of pearl earrings or something help in any way, shape or form in regards to my groveling?" Dean was a little slow in his movements at the moment, and when she reached around him to grab a bottle of water, he stepped out of the way to assist. After grabbing his beer he let the door close behind him and moved to lean back against the counter. "Oh, cool. That's good, glad I didn't have to sit around waiting." Though he could have always called Bobby, or maybe Cas. He had just been about to twist the cap off his beer when Lisa grabbed it right from his hand. His jaw dropped and he stood there looking at her in awe. "Why can't it be the other way around? Beer, shower, rest? Oh, and food. Yes, definitely some food. I'm fucking starving." “How about you taking care of yourself? That will go miles with the groveling.” Lisa sighed and handed back the beer. As upset as she had been about him fighting and ending up in jail, Lisa could see he was in obvious pain and her heart went out to him. He was just so stupid sometimes! It frustrated her and yet, she loved him for defending what he believed in. For fighting so hard. It was about his mom and she could not expect anything less where Mary was concerned. “Have your beer, but at least sit while you’re doing it, okay? You look like a gust of wind could blow you over.” Lisa pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek and cracked open the fridge door with a free hand. “What do you want to eat? We have plenty of stuff in here for a sandwich. You have a few slices of that pie we bought last week left too. I could grill you a burger if you want too.” Lisa closed the fridge and moved to open some of the cabinets for him to check out the contents inside. “Or we have plenty of snack food if you want something fast.” “Babe, I take care of myself plenty. I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Dean smiled happily when she returned the beer, though he would have gone up to shower if she had refused. He twisted the cap off and took a long pull from the bottle and pulled it away slowly after her comment, looking at her incredulously. “I look like a gust of wind could blow me over?” Dean repeated and then hurried over to check himself in a mirror, not sure what the hell she was seeing exactly. “Lis, you couldn’t knock me over if you tried right now. I’m fine, I’m not some delicate flower about to be uprooted.” Still, to make her happy, he moved to take a seat at the table, fingers tapping against the wood in thought. “Pie is good, wouldn’t say no to a sandwich, a burger is always a yes, but you don’t need to do all that. Pie, a sandwich and some chips should be sufficient. Thanks, babe.” “From the way you look right now, I think I might stand a good chance at least.” Lisa gave him a playful smile and set to work making him a sandwich. She pulled out the pie too and set it on a separate plate from the sandwich. Lisa would have made him the burger if he wanted it. He’d gone through a window; a burger was the least she could do to help with all of that. However, she was perfectly fine with his order. She took down a bag of chips, putting it on the table, and followed it up quickly with the sandwich. She popped the piece of pie in the microwave to warm it up; apple pie just didn’t taste the same cold. She kept it low; the last thing she wanted was to give Dean a burnt tongue on top of his injuries. “There you go.” Lisa placed the pie in front of him and inched a bottle of water on the table next to the beer. She claimed the seat across from him and took a sip from her water. “After food, you’re going to shower and rest. You need some good sleep.” It was a little strange, but he wasn't going to complain. After getting into a fight with Alec and ending up in jail for the night, Dean had not expected Lisa to have been so accommodating. He sat there with a smile, watching her make a sandwich for him. He still wasn't used to all of this. Having someone around who cared and wanted to take care of him. It was definitely an adjustment for him, but he was slowly getting used to it. "You're the best, babe." Dean took a pull from his beer and opened the bag of chips, stuffing a few into his mouth. "I don't deserve you." He muttered through the mouthful of chips, washing it down with some water. "I think a shower and some rest sounds like a fantastic idea, yes." He nodded in agreement, taking a hearty bite of his sandwich. Now that he was out of the cell, he was starting to really feel it all, the adrenaline completely gone. "I am probably going to have plenty of regrets when I wake up, but whatever." Dean shrugged it off and continued to eat, finishing it all down to the very last bite. "Fuck, I had no idea I was that hungry." He finished off the water shortly after the beer and got up to put the dishes in the sink before heading up for a shower. "Are you coming with?" Lisa was accommodating...to an extent. “Oh, don’t I know it.” Lisa took a sip of water before standing and moving to the sink to start cleaning up Dean’s dishes. “Yeah, you’re definitely going to be feeling, which is why you need a shower and some rest.” She started to scrub off the remaining food. His request didn’t surprise her, but Lisa gave him a look over her shoulder and shook her head. “I think I’ll let you go solo on this one. You did go through a window last night after all. Oh and serve a night in jail.” Yes, Lisa could be accommodating, but a meal and a jail spring were about as far as she was willing to go. At least, for today. "You were concerned about me falling over in the kitchen. I just thought maybe you might have that concern in regards to the shower, but it's cool. I'm sure I will manage to stay upright. Thanks for the food, babe." Yup. She was still pissed. It just wasn't evident in the ways he was used to. Not that he blamed her for it. Dean made his way up the stairs tiredly, his body really starting to feel it all. He wasn't sure if a hot shower would make things any better, but he could only hope. He removed his clothes carefully in the bathroom and it only continued to feel worse. "Son of a bitch." He muttered to himself as his shirt came off and he dropped it into the hamper. His back and arms were covered in small cuts and it was probably the worst of the injuries. He opted to put the temperature lukewarm and stepped in, hissing at the painful sensation all over his body. He didn't spend much time in the shower and was out in five minutes, getting himself dressed and into bed. Lisa watched him ascend the stairs. She was worried and angry. He easily brushed his injuries off as no big deal, but Lisa just...couldn’t do it. Him being hurt would never sit right with her. She could never brush it off as no big deal, especially when she knew he died back home. It was just...impossible. Still, after finishing up the dishes, Lisa made her way upstairs. She’d heard the shower shut off and knew Dean was probably crawling into bed. As upset as she was, Lisa crept up the stairs and, seeing him in bed, walked around the other side to get in. She gently wrapped her arms around him and rested her head upon his shoulder. He was safe, wounded, but safe. Okay, yup. That definitely hurt. Having her against him like that was a little painful, but he would grin and bear it. There was no way in hell he planned to pull away from her. “I love you, Lis.” Dean whispered, his hand moving to rest against hers, snoring barely a minute later as he completely passed out, her presence a great comfort. |
