Who: Angel and Buffy Summers
What: Buffy visits during the power outage.
Where: WAMM/Angel’s apartment
When: Sunday Early Morning
Warnings: None
Status: Log/Complete
It was days like these that led Angel to believe he could actually get headaches. It had taken him all of thirty seconds to determine that WAMM had lost power. Not that he needed light -- the windows were strategically curtained and uncurtained so as to allow appropriate daylight inside -- but, well, it was a business. Even if it was Sunday. He worried about the food -- and the blood -- that was in the kitchen downstairs. He worried about something going wrong. After fiddling with the circuit breakers, he knew there wasn’t anything he could do. A quick run through the sewers told him it wasn’t just WAMM, and a peek outside told him it was probably the whole town. Hell. Was this something? Was this a sign of something? He didn’t want to be paranoid about it, though, so he floated throughout the building, unlocking the front door and making it available to anyone out who wanted a place that wasn’t entirely dark and dreary and without people. This could just be a regular power outage, in which case, he could still offer help. He did wonder about Buffy though, and he hoped she would be alright. The network was down, which meant he couldn’t communicate with her so easily. He never thought he’d be frustrated not to have technology, but he’d apparently got used to having it. At the moment, Angel was alone so he drifted to his office. He was...restless. Which was ridiculous, because he was generally inside during the day anyway so why did he feel so...anxious. Or probably just tired. He really wasn’t sure, so he drew his curtains closed, his office darkening and he stood a little listlessly, wondering what he should do. *** Buffy had been thinking along the same lines of Angel and had gone on patrol to make sure that there was no weird eggs or anything that might be demonic causing the town wide black out of power. She was at a loss, but knew that she wanted -- needed -- to be with Angel right now. If this was some new crisis, then two heads working on it -- three if Wes were there -- would be better than one. Or three working together was better than those same three people spread out all over town. Somewhere in there, her meteaphoring fell apart, but she knew what she meant in her mind. She grabbed her usual day bag and walked the distance to WAMM. On her way, she stopped to look at the house she and her friends would be moving into next week. It was amazing and Buffy couldn't believe how amazing Angel was to purchase it for them. She finished her walk and arrived at WAMM. She went inside and was heading to the stairs up to Angel's room when she heard movement in his office. "Angel?" *** Angel hadn't heard her come in, but he heard her voice and he looked up at his door, hardly believing it. He moved quickly to open the door to his office and stepped out to find Buffy standing there. "Hi." His tone held some of his surprise. And because he was who he was, the smile that tugged on him waited behind the instant concern that took him. "Is something wrong? Did something happen?" *** Buffy smiled and shook her head. “Nothing besides all of the power being like, way gone. I thought that since I couldn’t find anything magical doing it, I would come spend time here with you. I know you and know you and your team would be researching it.” She gave him a wry look. “Besides, I don’t want to run into Baby Emo Boy Giles.” *** Angel let out a chuckle at that, his expression relaxing when he realized there wasn't any active danger. Well, not any that involved something more than a slightly exasperated palm to his face. "God, Giles...yeah. He's definitely not the Watcher you remember," he shook his head, more than a little worried about the junkie magic-user Giles had been as a youth. Worried about Buffy, that was. "I've been trying to figure out if this was mystical in nature, but I really don't think it is. Plus," he gave her a similarly wry look, "it's not as easy to research without the network running. So...I'm glad you're here." He stepped up, wrapping his arms around her for a quick embrace. *** Buffy was all too happy to wrap her arms around him and hug him for a few moments. There were times when just hugging him made her happier than anything, and this was one of those times. “Well, at least I don’t have to explain to a regular Giles that Wes is my Watcher and that I won’t let anyone change that.” A lot of that had to do with the fact that she just trusted Wes a lot more and that he was her friend. Some of that also stemmed from the things she had been told about some of the choices Giles tried to make for her in different futures. *** It lightened his heart more than anything, these little visits with Buffy. He loved seeing her in the day, and he realized just how rare that had been before. So he cherished the moments now when they came. "Wes is doing a great job," Angel said, his smile warm. He was proud of his friend. He'd come such a long way from the bumbling Watcher he'd met years ago. He was glad he and Buffy got along. This bizarro world made a lot of things he'd never dreamed possible happen. "No one else is around," he added after a moment. "Do you want to head up to my place or maybe the training room?" *** “Your place or the training room both have their merits,” Buffy agreed. “But before we know that we have to go into training or fighting modes about this, how about we go into relaxation Angel holds Buffy for awhile mode? Maybe get a nap before everyone starts pouring in for help?” *** Well, Angel was hardly going to be able to resist that offer. And power being out, well, wasn't at the highest point on the list of dire situations. It hadn't been long yet and it could very easily come back while they rested. "Relaxation mode seems like something I might be able to do," he replied lightly, reaching down for her hand before kissing the top of her head. "Damn song did interrupt my sleeping pattern." And he wanted nothing more than to be able to take the down time with her. *** “Then come get some more rest with me,” Buffy urged. “I really am tired and I can’t think of any place I would sleep safer if something did happen then here with you.” *** Angel nodded, smiling a little as he started them in the direction of his apartment. "Okay, Buffy. Let's go upstairs." He was secretly and almost ridiculously pleased that even at the early hour Buffy had come to him so they could endure the strangeness together. *** Buffy smiled and tried to hide the yawn that told him that she was indeed being honest about the being tired. They could rest together and then they would be able to work out everything that the power outage might mean with clearer minds. “Everyone else is safe and Dimitri and Rose and Eddie will have the Moroi in one place. Xander, Rebekah and Davina will make sure that they’re safe. Jill is with the Moroi. We won’t be able to do anything without some sleep.” *** Angel caught her yawn, which mostly reminded him that yes, even vampires ought to sleep a little too. "You're right." They'd definitely be of more use with rested minds and bodies. He hoped that most of the town would still be sleeping at this point anyway, rude awakenings by rock music aside. They reached his apartment which was much darker than the rest of the building, given he had fewer windows casting natural light inside. His bedroom was almost pitch black without one, so he lit a candle before steering Buffy inside, the warm glow casting shadows as he set it on his night stand. He looked at his girl with a soft and sleepy smile. If he wasn’t careful, he could get very used to this. |
