Caroline was making a quick stop at Walmart on Sunday night. She needed to pick up a few staples for the house and she wanted to browse the decorations. Arriving, Caroline picked up a hand basket and headed towards the snack aisle. Yes, there were not exactly staples, but Caroline did like Doritos, especially the Ranch ones and she was in need of a fix. She picked out a bag and then added another one before moving on.

She visited the coolers for milk before heading towards the decorations, eager to see what she could add to her collection from last year. She went through the hanging costumes though being that this was Walmart, she doubted she would find anything good.

Sam thought Shosanna needed some quiet time, and had taken Vivienne out to explore the world. Tiny as she was, barely six weeks old, she couldn't do much, but Sam enjoyed showing her around town, explaining some of the highlights, sharing some of his memories of life in Madison.

"And for our last trick," he told the tiny infant in his arms, "we're going to get something special for Mommy." Walmart was hardly a high end gift shop, but that wasn't the sort of thing Sam needed. Maybe he'd get her some flowers, or...something. He was sure he'd think of something.

"Do you want to look at costumes?" he asked the little one who he knew couldn't really answer him. "I can't wait till you're old enough to go trick or treating." Halloween was a fun celebration, as long as he didn't think about how very real most of the creatures depicted in costumes meant to be spooky and scary were actually real.

Sam shifted through a rack of costumes one handed. "You'd make a cute little fat pumpkin," he said, and as he stepped back, he found himself in someone else's space. he didn't bump into her, but it was a near miss. "Sorry," he said. ""I might have gotten a little distracted."

Vivi cooed in his arms and he shifted her slightly, grateful she wasn't screaming her head off in the store.

Caroline was hardly upset at almost bumping into Sam. As soon as she saw the baby curled in his arms, she was distracted by something much better than costumes. The baby was adorable and reminded Caroline of when her twins were that tiny. It was wonderful and also hit Caroline with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for those days.

Caroline shook her head quickly. "No, no. It's okay. How could you not be distracted with that little cutie in your arms? She was would absolutely make a cute pumpkin."

"She does tend to command my entire focus," Sam admitted. Not that he wasn't aware of his surroundings. But he wasn't as focused on the world around him as he probably should be.

"Right? I should ask her mom what she things, but...she's at home sleeping. I think I'm going to buy the costume anyway." Because chubby as she was, because she was still basically a newborn, she would be the cutest pumpkin ever, as far as Sam was concerned.

	"Mine did too. It's just something that happens with parenthood." Caroline remembered a time when she couldn't picture herself as a parent, but now? "You're probably right." Sam grinned.

Being a father was the most rewarding experience of his life so far. he had a lot of fears, a lot of concerns. But as long as he kept those thoughts from creeping in, he was thrilled with the whole thing. And he already loved Vivi more than he ever thought possible.

"What do you think, Vivi?" he asked the baby. She just stared up at him and waved her little fist in the air.

	Caroline beamed. It was the most precious thing to see a child happy. Caroline thought that Vivi approved wholeheartedly of the costume choice too. "I think she totally approves," Caroline replied. 	"A good sense of fashion has to start somewhere," Sam said. "Why not Halloween? That's where you can go a little crazy and no one will even bat an eye." He actually didn't care much for Halloween. being a hunter, Halloween wasn't much fun for him. That was a different life, though, and he wasn't going to let it affect his child.
