The trip to Disney World had without a doubt lifted her spirits. Spending the time away from Madison with everyone else had been exactly what she needed. She had enjoyed spending time with Castiel and Balthazar, which was the first time she had really met them. She finally had the opportunity to spend some time with Penelope, and best of all, Trixie had loved every second of it. Chloe would never forget the look on her daughter's eyes when they started their walk down Main Street and the castle came into view. Trixie lit up each time they encountered a favorite character of hers and they had taken tons of pictures. Upon arrival in Madison there had been a slight decrease in her uplifted mood, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. With the first day of school right around the corner, there had been a slight scramble to get all of the supplies Trixie needed, but so far, things were going smoothly. She was out on a break from work, walking through the town when she could swear that she saw Lucifer off in the distance. Chloe stood there in confusion, thinking that maybe it was time she spoke to Linda. Sure, she was a little down lately, but she had never hallucinated seeing him before. She had been about to pull out her phone and send Linda a text when she heard his voice. She walked towards him with a slight hesitance and said his name aloud, expecting him to vanish. Lucifer hadn’t been too fond of the idea of being taken away from his friends and family, especially at this very important time. He should be back there with Chloe...taking care of Trixie. For the first time in a long time he was angry with the world. Why give him that chance at making things right only to rip it away from him again? Somehow he kept thinking that this was someone's idea of a cruel joke and soon enough someone would be jumping out from behind a corner….yelling ‘Gotcha’. This was his second day moving around in the town and every corner or potential hiding place he passed and he didn’t get the punchline he found himself getting more and more angry. Sure he could just accept yet another new chance at reinventing himself, but he had liked the direction he was heading in the last attempt. Though even he had to admit that there was something different with his anger this time….some other emotion behind it….and he wasn’t sure just yet what it was. Normally in times like this he would just ask Linda, but even she had been taken from him it seemed. He had been given this thing to access the town’s network, but some time he had avoided it. He was just starting to wonder if perhaps he should post on there asking if anyone had seen any of his friends when saw the sight of a familiar shape making her way towards him. He froze. He wanted to believe that it was really her….wanted to know for sure. But a part of him just stood there as if it were a dream. But then she spoke. That shocked him out of his moment. “Chloe?” he finally asked, his eyes never leaving her, thinking that if he stopped looking at her for one second she would be gone. Her head cocked to the side and her brow raised in thought, just staring at him. Hallucinations didn't usually answer you back, right? Then again, this was Madison and anything was possible. She moved closer and then reached out to touch him. A soft gasp escaped her lips when she felt something warm and solid beneath her touch. "It's really you?" What if he was some other version of Lucifer, one who hadn't sacrificed his existence for her. Chloe was rarely emotional, but as she stood there in front of him, tears began to fill her eyes. "Are you the one who saved me?" He could have been an alternate version of Lucifer, like when some of the current residents had switched over. But, given the look in his eyes, that didn't seem to be the case. "I thought-" she didn't want to throw her arms around him just yet, she wanted to know if they were both on the same page and she was hoping they were. She wasn't sure she could handle something like that again. When she spoke and he saw how emotional she got about him saving her it broke his heart. Of course he was the one that saved her….she was….his Chloe, so he stepped forward, wrapped his own arms around her and pulled her into the biggest hug he had ever given anyone. “Yes...it’s me, and I am here” he answered, making a promise to himself that no one would ever lay a hand on her again….or he might just have to revert back to his old self and hand out some much needed punishment to the person(s) responsible. She had quickly become the most important person in his life….and as much as he didn’t want to admit it, Trixie was a very close second. He had always thought that he hated children, but that little urchin had wormed her way into his heart somehow. “Is Trixie here? Is she safe?” he asked, letting a little bit of that love and concern for the young girl shine through. “Yes, Trixie is here, and she’s fine.” Chloe smiled, nodding her head in response. “There are actually some other angels here who have taken quite a shine to my little chocolate cake loving fiend.” Her eyes closed and she let his familiar scent comfort her, remaining close in his arms. “Maze is here as well, so is Linda and Charlie, also Dan.” After a moment, she took a step back and took him by the hand, moving them towards the storefront so they were no longer in the way of those walking by. “We’ve been here for a while, actually. Trixie being here the longest...it’s all sort of complicated, and I don’t want to bombard you with so much at once. Have you been greeted by the committee here? They should have provided you with a phone, some money, and an apartment to stay at.” She was curious though. Would he be able to survive without all his designer suits and expensive cars? He listened to everything that she was saying, and did his level best to take everything in. Though truthfully he was just glad that he wasn’t alone here. Sure he did have a few things in life that he liked, but she was more important than all of those things...and so is Trixie. He allowed her to guide him wherever she wanted him to be, but then once she finished talking he cut her off before answering her question. He leaned in and kissed her sweetly on the lips, but there was also a passion there as he let his hands position on the small of her back, so that he could pull her closer. After a few moments he finally leaned back from the kiss and he smiled at her. “All that matters is that you and Trixie are both here….and safe” he answered, not really caring about any of the rest of it. Though he did sigh an inward relief when she mentioned Dan...if he was here then he must be alive and that made him happy for some reason. A big part of it was the pain he had saw on Trixie’s face when they had to tell her about her father’s death. If he could avoid Trixie from ever having to go through that he would. “I can live anywhere….as long as I get to see you everyday” he breathed, in a way answering her question about them giving him the place to stay. “Oh, good, so then you’ve been given your proper introduction to the craziest place to ever exist. Maybe. It’s hard to say since I’ve only ever been here and California.” She looked up at him with a bright smile and brushed her lips against his in a kiss. “Are you sure you want to see me every day? I mean, don’t you think you might need a break in between?” Chloe teased, unable to stop smiling now, relief washing over her completely. “If the apartment is too small for you, you can always buy a house. Trixie and I live close to the water and we’ve got Dan and Mare with us as well. I’ll have to introduce you, obviously, but Mare already knows who you are and everything like that. So, that’s the good part, I guess. Nobody here will question your sanity when you tell them you’re the devil.” Lucifer certainly did enjoy the way that she seemed to be joking with him now. He found that his own mood was lightening as well. Something about her presence had a way of calming his nerves and making almost anything bearable. “I think seeing you everyday might be the very reason I can handle this place” he answered, his own tone very serious in that moment. It was clear though that he wasn’t being malicious about it, because there was also a small smile on his face. He was glad for the chance to spend more time with her, but he knew they still had a long road ahead of them to get where he wanted them to be. “I don’t really mind the size of the apartment. I would prefer to sleep with you, but as I can tell your house is rather full I will make do” he answered, not even bothering to hide his feelings on the matter. But then again she would expect that from him. She knew better than most that Lucifer was not the type to lie or hold things back from anyone. It just wasn’t in his nature. While they certainly had been spending more time together back home, they hadn’t been living together, and Chloe was a little surprised to see that Lucifer was a bit upset over the fact they would be living apart here as well. “Well, maybe in time you can move in with us. But, for now, I think it’s best if we just continue as we were back home.” She didn’t have any concerns about living with him, but it was still an adjustment for her. “In fact, why don’t we go check out your place now and see if you need anything? I have my car and we could go shopping.” Although, she didn’t think a trip to Target would be something he wanted. “You may have to lower your expectations for a bit. Madison is nothing like Los Angeles and as far as I am aware, there aren’t many posh home furnishing stores.” Chloe gave his hand a squeeze and started to walk them back towards where she had parked her car. As much as he didn’t like her answer, he did understand where she was coming from. There were other people involved and even though he was sure that he wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, she needed to be sure that was what she wanted before they took the next step. Even if it would break his heart he would rather not take that step if there was a chance of Trixie getting hurt. Though he didn’t want to admit how hurt he was by the fact that she wasn’t sure yet, so he simply nodded his head. Yet another thing he would have to get used to. He had always had a specific style and here that did seem like it was going to be a bit of a challenge. “I am sure we could find something,” he said, finally speaking up. “So, I say we give it a try” he added, trying to focus on the good for the time being. Chloe sensed his hesitation and she couldn’t help but feel a little guilty over it. It wasn’t that she was unsure of how she felt about him, she just wanted to make sure he was going to actually stick around before taking that jump. “Oh, on the plus side, it’s definitely possible for some of your things from back home to show up. So, maybe you might get your car or your clothes or something. Who knows?” She leaned up to give him a quick kiss and unlocked the door to her car before getting in. |
