Noah knew the dinner had gone okay, but there had certainly been some tense moments. No one understood Stiles better than Noah.....the only person that came close was Scott. Stiles always did have a bit of a laser focus, especially when he had been wronged by someone, and Noah partly blamed himself for that. Having lived his life with a dad in law enforcement Stiles saw Noah look at a lot of things in Black and White. Noah never really had the luxury of wondering about someone's motives or what led them to commit the crime. It was merely his job to make sure they were arrested and do his best to make sure they paid for it. As he got older Noah realized the toll that had taken on Stiles, and how in so many other ways Stiles started to become more and more like his father. While Noah still did believe in punishing the guilty, if there was one thing he had learned from his time in Beacon it was that sometimes life isn't always so black and white. Oh he would never blame his son for not wanting anything to do with someone who had threatened Malia....whatever their reasons may have been. Stiles was fiercely protective of the people he cared about and that was one thing Noah would never want to change about his son. It was one of the things that Noah was most proud of. Noah thought it best that they clear the air and let Stiles tell him more about what had happened without Linda here to defend her client. Of course Noah could also understand her reasoning for doing so; she was with her daily and perhaps saw her progress to changing that person she used to be, but sometimes the person who has been wronged doesn't want to hear that....or need to hear it. If Stiles wasn't past what she had done, Noah had every reason to believe Stiles had a right to feel that way. He needed time to process and move on, and if it hadn't been enough time then he should get more. Each person was different and moving on from a past wrong is especially something that is different for each person. No one forgives in the same way. Noah wanted his son to know he wasn't angry with him for his response....needed him to know that he didn't ever have to refrain from voicing his thoughts under his roof. While he cared deeply for Linda already, Stiles was his son and Noah would never shut him out or make him feel unwelcome in his home or in his life. And Noah wanted to make sure that Stiles knew that. Noah had made them lunch. He knew that he was cutting it close, but he had wanted to talk to Stiles before his date with Linda tonight. He wanted to make sure that the air was clear and that his son would be okay with him moving forward with her. Of course they might still have some conflicts down the road, but that was a part of life. No one was going to agree with everyone all of the time. The important thing was to learn how to communicate with one another without the raising of voices or tempers.....but for the men in this family that had always been a challenge. He was sitting on the couch waiting for his son to arrive. He had on simple jeans and tshirt. He was going to shower and change after Stiles had left. |
