For as much as Madison Valley had put him through -- first Marley, then Raven, and while he could now think of Marley pretty fondly, it was never not going to hurt that he'd lost Raven -- he wouldn't trade any of it. And he knew that if anything ever happened to him, he could count on Octavia to take Aurie -- there was a difference between claiming Aurie as her own and taking her if necessary.
Murphy couldn't help smiling at the little girl. "She's a good one, our Aurie," he said. "Even when she's the very definition of stubborn."
Almost as if he'd heard and wanted to claim that status for himself, Alex tried to veer off to one side. "No you don't, mister," he said, giving the backpack leash a tug.
