Who: Sara, Tandy, Ty
What: Sara wants to know more about their powers
Where: their house
When: Last Friday morning
Warnings: nope
Status: complete
Ty went downstairs, with the intention of making some eggs for breakfast. Maybe some bacon and fruit as well. He still felt tired from the fucked up version of Dean who came here. Ty teleported Sara and Leonard as needed. But, he could tell Sara wanted to ask him questions. What the hell could he say? Yeah, he teleported. But Ty really didn’t want to get into how his power worked.
He started to prep some eggs for an egg sandwich when he heard someone enter the kitchen. “Morning,” he called out as he pulled out a few more food items.
***
Tandy had never been one for sleeping a lot when she wasn’t taking pills, so she’d actually gotten up before Ty and claimed the shower. Now that she was out and dressed, she braided her damp hair to keep it out of her face, then headed down herself. When she heard someone in the kitchen, the teen drifted in, then smiled when she spotted Ty cooking.
“Morning,” she replied, making a beeline for the cabinet where the cereal was kept and grabbing a bowl at the same time. “Figured you’d be sleeping longer.”
***
The previous week was pretty hellacious and Sara was glad that they’d gotten through it relatively unscathed. Avoiding psycho Dean was a chore, though she had some unexpected and much appreciated help from Ty. She had long suspected that there was something Tandy and Ty were keeping from her and she’d made a promise to herself that she wouldn’t push them to open up until they were ready.
When she heard them in the kitchen, she decided it was time to have a conversation, so she went in and joined them, heading for the coffee pot. “Morning guys,” she said. “You have to run off anywhere today?”
***
Tyrone, by this point, fully removed his head from inside the fridge. “Nah. I want to get in a little training, or maybe shoot some hoops, before I work this afternoon.” Good thing his shift didn’t start for another four hours. “Breakfast called anyway.” He knew Tandy and sleep didn’t always go hand-in-hand. Ty’s sleep schedule varied, less due to drugs and more due to what occurred in his and Tandy’s lives.
When Sara joined them, he smiled, before he returned his attention to the eggs currently cooking on the stove. “I work later this afternoon, but nothing between then and now.” The way Sara asked made Ty think the question held more purpose than simple curiosity.
***
“Cool,” was Tandy’s reply to Ty, before she started to pour cereal, then went to the fridge to grab milk and orange juice. By the time Sara walked in, Tandy was leaning against the counter eating her cereal while her juice rested behind her on the counter. She gave Sara a nod when the woman walked in, moving over so she wasn’t blocking the coffee pot, and scooped up another mouthful of cereal.
At the question, she waited for Ty to reply before adding her own. “Morning. And no, I don’t think so. No plans at the moment, at least.” Which made her wonder just why Sara was asking.
***
“I’d like to talk to you both,” Sara said. “About what happened last week.”
There was no hint of rancor or anything negative in her tone, it was a simple, conversational statement. She assumed they would know specifically what she wanted to talk about and hoped that by approaching it casually, they wouldn’t be too defensive. She understood why they’d kept Ty’s abilities to themselves.
***
Dammit, Ty thought. His eggs finished cooking about two minutes later, so he built himself a sandwich, with cheese and toast, and finally responded. “I assume you mean the part where I teleported you and Leonard a bunch?”
He took a bite of his sandwich and poured himself some coffee. Regardless of how the conversation went, Ty planned on keeping Tandy’s secrets. If she wanted Sara to know, that was on her. As it was, he didn’t know how much he planned on sharing. Would it make their living situation worse? He didn’t know, and so he took another bite and washed it down with a swig of coffee.
***
The lack of a response from Ty for a couple minutes pretty much gave him away, while Tandy herself just stared at Sara as she ate her cereal, waiting for her to make more. After all, she had a lot more experience with lying to authority figures than Ty did, and knew better than to answer unasked questions. She’d wait to see what Sara did or didn’t know.
Turning to pick up her juice, she took a small sip and looked back at Sara again, motioning for her to go on.
***
Silence didn’t bother Sara, so she let it hang, making her coffee and deciding to toast a bagel as well. When Ty finally spoke, she turned around to face him while she waited for the toaster to pop so she could smother her bagel with cream cheese.
“That’s part of it,” she said. “I appreciate what you did for us. I was very concerned about Leonard’s safety.” Her own? Not as much. She’d already lost Snart once and wasn’t about to let it happen again on her watch. If it hadn’t been for Ty being able to teleport them around town, Dean would have been able to find out where they lived and potentially harm him for being his perceived competition.
The toaster popped and she pulled out her bagel. “I understand why you didn’t share sooner,” she added. “Though I’m glad you trusted us enough to finally share. Is there anything else I should know?”
***
The fact Sara used should and not have gave Ty a momentary reprieve. Out of the two of them, Tandy lied better. But, that didn’t mean Ty couldn’t hide their secrets and, in fact, did a pretty good job overall. And he didn’t necessarily think Sara needed to know more.
“I didn’t want anything to happen to you or Leonard. Since I could help, I did. Maybe don’t spread that around town, though.” The only other two people in town who knew were Logan and Mia. And he could tell that Mia kept her own secrets.
“No. Nothing on my end.” Because like hell he was going to mention his seeing peoples’ fears or the dark dimension to which he could send people. No. No thank you.
***
At a time like this, Tandy really wished that she and Ty could send secret messages back and forth between one another. It would’ve made the whole divine powers thing more convenient in a lot of ways. Her eyes drifted from Sara to him, and yeah...she felt a hint of guilt that she hadn’t done anything to help, though her power was more reactive than proactive like his.
After letting the silence stretch a little longer, Tandy shot Ty one more look, then turned to Sara. “I can make daggers made of light. But I don’t really think that’s all that important to you. Wouldn’t have really helped during that craziness, anyway.”
***
Sara was savvy enough to know that they still weren’t telling her everything. Rather than responding right away with a bunch of questions, she took a bite of her bagel and chewed it thoughtfully. After a swig of coffee, she finally spoke.
“Have you done any training to fight with daggers?” she asked Tandy. While she favored her tactical batons, she was skilled with bladed weapons.
***
Ty noticed the look Tandy sent thim and, if he wished for them to have telepathic communications prior? He doubted it compared to how they currently felt. So, he munched on his sandwich.
However, when Sara asked Tandy that particular question, Ty managed to not choke. Training? Ha. More like thrown into the deep end of the ocean and hope they didn’t drown. When the fuck did they manage time to train? Their lives mostly involved how ‘bout we don’t end up dead?
He really didn’t want to speak for his best friend. But obviously he supported her and thought she handled her daggers rather well. He thought real world experience should count, and threw Tandy a look of support.
***
Tandy took another bite of cereal as she studied Sara. She didn’t seem likely to kick them out over this, and a part of her did trust the woman - she just didn’t like others knowing about her unless she told them. It was really the only reason she was okay with doing this. Swallowing slowly, she glanced at Ty, then back to Sara again.
“Sorta, yeah. With them, anyway, not like...metal ones.” Setting her bowl down on the counter, Tandy held up one hand and a dagger made of pure white light appeared.
***
People with special abilities were nothing new to Sara and she completely understood why they weren’t forthcoming with the information. It could be dangerous in a lot of ways, given how society tended to fear that which was different.
She was taking another bite of her bagel when Tandy conjured up some daggers seemingly out of nowhere. “Well, that’s handy,” she said. It would solve the issue of not having a weapon when you need one. “Did you two meet because of your powers?” she asked, glancing back over at Ty, noticing that he seemed uncomfortable with this whole conversation.
***
He laughed. Ty couldn’t help the laughter at how they met. “You could say that. A rig exploded when we were eight. We received powers. But we actually met at a party a few years ago.” Obviously, Ty didn’t want to mention he fell for Tandy’s innocent girl routine and lost his wallet in the process. How embarrassing.
His sandwich finished, Ty poured himself some coffee and pondered what to say. He really liked Sara and Leonard. And he hated lying. While he knew to hide his powers from the general population, this seemed like a now or never moment. “While I have pretty good control to not do this often, I can see people’s fears when I touch them. Not exactly a party trick people like.” God, he hoped Sara didn’t kick them out. Or, at least not him. He didn’t like the idea of living separated from Tandy.
***
“What he said. Sort of.” There was more to the story than that, but Ty summed it up in something of a nutshell. Finishing off her cereal, she drank the rest of the mlik, then stuck her bowl in the sink and rinsed it out. As she turned off the water a minute later, she heard Ty admitting to the fears thing and shot him a look. That was definitely not something she would’ve mentioned, considering it was very different from the one part about his powers Sara did know, and she wasn’t sure why he did.
“But he doesn’t use it to hurt people or anything like that,” she hurried to add. Not like she had.
***
“I would imagine that’s not very fun for you either,” Sara said, making a mental note to make sure she didn’t accidentally touch Ty and subject him to that terrifying glimpse into her psyche.
She finished her bagel, thinking about everything they had shared and how it fit together. “So your powers are intertwined in some way,” she finally said. “Shadows and fears for you,” she nodded at Ty, recalling the weird black cloud that enveloped them when he teleported. Shifting her gaze to Tandy, she said. “So you’ve got light and… what? Dreams?”
***
Ty smiled at the support from Tandy. He knew what Tandy did with her powers at certain points, but no way would he ever divulge that. “I have them mostly under control. I didn’t accidentally see anything when I touched you to teleport you. And I don’t like hurting people.”
“Yeah, they’re intertwined, more or less. Mine is basically based on fear and darkness, although shadows doesn’t seem wrong,” Ty admitted. Tandy should answer about her own powers.
***
Tandy sighed a little at the fact that they clearly weren’t getting out of this conversation, and walked over to the table to sit. “Hopes, not dreams. They’re different,” she replied, before taking a sip of her orange juice. Sometimes she could see memories, too, but that was a little different.
“We don’t really know what these powers are, but we’ve managed with them pretty well so far. And I kept you from finding out for a year and a half,” she added with a slightly challenging look at Sara.
***
Sara raised her eyebrows at Tandy’s tone and expression. “You guys are entitled to your secrets,” she said, keeping her own tone mild. “There may be people here who can help you understand them better though. And if you want to learn to fight more efficiently with daggers, I have some experience in that area.” She wasn’t upset that they hadn’t shared sooner though it did sting a little that they hadn’t trusted her enough.
“It sounds like you have some kind of yin/yang thing going on,” she said. “Kind of like Len and Mick had with the whole ice/heat thing. It’s up to you if you want to tell him, but he might be able to help.”
As long as she’d been here, she knew a lot of people with various abilities. “And if you want, I can ask around without outing you. See if anyone has useful information.”
***
Ty sighed. “Mia knows some of my powers. She saw me practicing my powers once and has been helping me train to fight with those powers better. I need to fight with a more defensive strategy than Tandy. I don’t feel like hiding this from Leonard if we live with him too, but ultimately I won’t do anything that Tandy isn’t comfortable with me doing.”
He sipped his coffee. “Yeah. We’re two sides of the same coin. Weird, but we work better as a team anyway. We learned that the difficult way.”
***
Tandy thought about it for a few minutes as Ty talked, before finally shaking her head and giving a shrug. “I used to think that it was something we needed to keep secret. I mean - back home they’d probably make us sign those stupid Sokovia Accords or whatever. But I guess it doesn’t matter if Len knows.” Finishing her orange juice, she got back to her feet.
“Training would be okay. And...yeah, I guess if you want to ask around, you can. Just say something to us before you drop our names.”
***
Nodding, Sara got up to pour herself another cup of coffee. “I’ll let you know if I find out anything useful.” She was going to talk to Constantine first. It sounded like the kind of mystical shit he might be familiar with. “And let me know when you want to start training.”
She sat back down and grinned at them both. “Okay, so, new subject. This house is a disaster so we need to clean…”
