Who: Dean Winchester & Lisa Braeden
Where:Their house
When: After coming back from MirrorVerse
What: Dean comes home
Warnings: none
While it had been a bit of a rude awakening for Dean, he was relieved to find his car out front and the keys in his pocket. It felt good to be behind the wheel of baby again, and he leaned forward to kiss the steering wheel before pulling away from the curb. It was around eight in the morning and thankfully there was very little traffic. When he arrived at the house he just pulled into the driveway, not even bothering to use the garage. Dean hurried out of the car so fast that he nearly tripped over his own two feet. He placed the key in the door and unlocked it. "Lisa? Lisa! Are you here?" He shouted, completely forgetting it was so early in the morning. Instead of waiting for her to come to him, he hurried down the hall to their bedroom. Though everyone in town claimed that the switch between the other Madison and this one was temporary, Lisa was still anxious. There was a part of her that worried it was permanent and that the Dean she loved would never come back. It was enough for her to even consider changing the locks to the house. She didn’t like the idea of that other Dean having access to the house via the garage door opener in Baby, but Lisa had made herself hold off. Dean could come back any day and the other Dean hadn’t been back since that day. Why would he? He could sleep with anyone and have lounging for the night. Lisa had managed to fall asleep around one in the morning. Thoughts of Dean being trapped in that other Madison Valley kept her up. The sound of Dean’s voice shouting filled her ears and for a moment she panicked, worrying it could be the other Dean coming back. She pushed herself up and reached over, digging through the nightstand, and pulling out a small knife. The other Dean hadn’t harmed her last time, but that could always change. His footsteps became louder as he approached the bedroom and Lisa looked towards the door, awaiting his arrival. He appeared and LIsa swallowed, taking in his appearance. He looked genuinely concerned and Lisa loosened her grip on the knife under the blankets. Could this be her Dean? “Dean, what’s going on?” Lisa asked carefully. When he made it to the bedroom he realized that Lisa was on high alert, and he had to wonder about what happened while he was gone. "It's me, baby. I'm back. I don't know what happened, but I woke up in bed with-" no, that wouldn't be necessary to mention. "I went to bed in the other place, and when I woke up this morning, I was here." Did she have a weapon on her? He wasn't sure if he should be concerned or proud about that. "It's me, Lis, not that douchebag." He had heard so many horrible stories about what that Dean had done, and he wished he could have changed things for the better before he was sent back. "He didn't hurt you, did he?" He kept his distance for the moment, not wanting to upset her by coming closer. Dean thought back to his memories, something that would only be known between them. "Oh! There was a time here when my car turned into a literal baby and we had to take care of it. Cas gave you your memories of me back, and we got this house together." Lisa was very relieved that he didn’t complete that sentence. Given how promiscuous his other half had been, it didn’t surprise Lisa, but she didn’t want to hear the details or the names. It hurt her enough to just think about it; the only comforting aspect was that she knew it wasn’t the Dean she had come to know these last few months here. The Dean that had asked Cas to give her memories back and wanted to actually build a life with her here even if it was far removed from anything he had back home. “Kind of glad you didn’t finish that statement,” Lisa replied softly. He said he wasn’t that douchebag. He was her Dean, but how did she know? What if this was just a game he was playing with her because he needed a safe place to stay? Lisa wanted to believe him, but she was scared too. However, her fears were soon put to rest when he recalled the time when his car turned into a baby and that Cas had given her memories back. The other Dean wouldn’t know that. Slowly, Lisa lifted her hand from beneath the blanket and slipped the knife on top of the nightstand. Relief flowed through her and she sighed, the tension leaving her body and she looked at him with a faint smile. “It’s you. Thank God, it’s you.” Lisa replied, tears springing to her eyes and she hurried to brush them away. “I didn’t think I’d see you again. I was so worried.” “Baby, no.” Dean frowned as he rushed to her side and pulled her into his arms for a warm embrace. “I would have never given up on coming back to you. I never give up, and I certainly would never give up on you.” This was exactly the reason why he had believed that she would be better off without him. He didn’t want her constantly worrying if he would come back or not. “I love you, Lis. I love you so damn much that I would have crawled back home on broken glass just to tell you that.” Those three words were something he never thought he would say, but now that he had, it all felt so different. He buried his face in her hair, breathing in her familiar scent that he had missed for far too long. His eyes closed and he inhaled a deep breath, his hand cradling the back of her head. “Did Cas look out for you and make sure you were safe?” That had been the one constant to keep him from losing it. He knew that no matter what, Cas and even Balthazar would make sure she was okay. “I’m sorry you had to worry like that.” Part of Lisa didn’t fully believe it was Dean until he hurried to her side and wrapped her in his arms. She buried her face in his neck and pulled him close. He was real; it wasn’t a dream. She clung to him tightly for a moment before making herself loosen the hold. Despite knowing about the unpredictability of his work, the danger, Lisa still could not shake the fear she had of losing him. “I know. I know. I believe you,” Lisa replied softly, pulling back to touch his face. It was her Dean; she could see it in his eyes. They weren’t hard and cold; there was still something warm there. Then he said it and Lisa couldn’t breathe for a moment. She couldn’t speak. She allowed him to embrace her, feeling his hand cradle the back of her head. Those tears pricked at the corner of her eyes again and she tried to respond. She never expected him to say that to her and it wasn’t a demand either. She knew how much he did care...even if he never uttered those words, but he had and Lisa, still mildly in shock over it, managed to respond. “Yes, Cas did and Balthazar...and you do realize you just...said you love me, right?” Lisa pulled away and looked at him, a faint smile on her lips. “I...I love you too, Dean. And it’s okay. It’s not your fault.” “Yes, I know I said it. I said it and I meant it. I love you, with all I have to give, Lisa Braeden.” His time spent with Lisa had been the only time he could feel normal, and he finally had a chance at having a family. She was the best thing to ever happen to him and she needed to know that. His eyes closed when she reached out to caress his face, having missed that greatly. You never really knew what you needed, until it was gone, and you found yourself missing it. Long ago, Dean had put away the dream of having anything remotely good in his life, and he never would have guessed the dream would come true, outside of a Djinn fueled dream. “No, but I-” maybe it hadn’t been his fault, but he still felt like he should have tried harder to get back home. “Do you have to work today? I was hoping we could spend the day together, even if we’re just sitting on the couch, I don’t care.” Lisa leaned in and pressed a passionate kiss to his lips. She’d been waiting a while to hear those words. Part of her figured she never would and it didn’t bother her; she knew how difficult it was for him to say those words. To get to a point where he felt he could say those words and feel that way about anyone. That was why it meant so much to her that he had finally said it. She didn’t want to think about how, if she ever left, she would never remember this moment or him again. She couldn’t let something like that ruin the moment. She pulled back and took his hand. “I love you too, Dean Winchester. With all my heart.” He always had to take the blame didn’t he? Lisa wished he wouldn’t, but she figured he would. He would feel guilt over being taken in the first place or not coming back sooner. Lisa didn’t fault him for any of it. He didn’t have any control over this place. She squeezed his hand to reassure him again. “It’s okay, Dean. I promise,” Lisa replied softly. “And I can be off. How about I take the day and we do whatever you want?” Lisa never asked too many questions or forced him to answer whatever, and he appreciated that. She would probably never know all the things he had done in his past, and he was relieved about that. The last thing he wanted was to send her running in the opposite direction. “I think I like the sound of that very much.” Dean nodded in agreement, his fingers brushing through her hair. “I’m just going to take a shower, do a quick shave and put on some of my own clothes.” Even though they were the same size, it felt weird having to wear someone else’s clothing. “Would you like to join me?” The thing about Dean that Lisa had come to learn was that he did tell you things...it just took time. While he’d never disclosed everything about his past, Lisa knew enough to make an educated guess at filling in the blanks. She knew he kept things from her because he wanted to protect her and Ben from that darkness that always seemed to chase him no matter where he went. Coming here had seemed to alleviate some of that darkness, but as could be seen from the last few weeks, it didn’t completely make them immune to it. Bad things could find them anywhere. At the question, Lisa smiled and nodded. “Now I definitely know it’s you,” she replied, teasing gently. She pushed aside the covers and stood, taking his hand. “Come on, let’s get you out of those clothes.” |
