Who: Scott McCall and Hope Mikaelson What: Run in (Match Up) When: April 26, Afternoon Where: Streets Rating: low
While he had learned to control himself better, it didn’t mean that the pull of the impending super moon didn’t have Scott feeling like he had a lot of pent up energy. He was going to have to see if Malia wanted to burn off some steam, but he had work scheduled beforehand. Some of the animals seem to sense the excess energy which made for some interesting moments throughout the day. When it came time to clock out, Scott was actually looking forward to it - normally he liked work a lot.
He clocked out and headed out the door. His exit was a little faster and the swing of the door more forceful. It was only to his reflexes that he managed to catch the door before it clocked a poor girl in her face. He suddenly looked entirely guilty. “Sorry…”
--
Hope wasn’t much of a “pet” person by far. A lot of this she attributed to growing up without the opportunity to have a pet. You couldn’t actually see any Mikaelson owning an animal given their seeming nature to kill everything they came in contact with, in one form or another. Not to mention, it gave their enemies another target in which to strike out at them. However, in Madison Valley, Hope didn’t have to worry about enemies. Yet. While she wasn’t about to adopt the first cat or dog her eyes landed on, she wasn’t opposed to at least looking into the opportunity of owning one.
Hope had been about to enter the shelter when the door opened abruptly and a familiar smell washed over her. She knew it was Scott before he caught the door, saving her from being hit in the face and ending up with a smashed nose or worse. When he realized what he had done, he apologized, looking genuinely guilty for the near miss.
“It’s fine. You caught it. If you didn’t, I might have had to curse you.” Hope was teasing.
Mostly.
--
They hadn’t really hung out or talked in great lengths while in person, but Scott knew Hope since she was friends with Lizzie. That and Hope was the daughter of Klaus, a man who had threatened his pack. He wasn’t going to hold her accountable for that, though. It wasn’t his style.
“Sorry.” He rubbed the back of his next as he apologized again. “I guess I’m more on edge than I thought I’d be.” He was worried about Malia and about Liam which didn’t help either. He was worried his run of ‘good luck’ had run out since April had been pretty uneventful so far in terms of major disasters for his pack.
He gestured up dumbly toward the sky, looking sheepish. “Super moon.”
-- On the full moon, Hope had to transition though she could control her transition even when there was no full moon. She wasn’t aware of any enhanced effects the super moon might have on her transition. She felt a bit “itchy” so to speak, but nothing too bad. Obviously, Scott was a different kind of wolf and a supermoon affected him differently than it affected Hope. It affected his pack in similar ways no doubt. Given Malia was in his Pack, he was probably worried about how she was handling it.
“I guess it affects you differently than it does me. Wolves from different world and all that,” Hope replied. --
He nodded. “It’s not so bad for me, but I’ve learned how to control it. We get stronger, but that also means our nature comes out more.” Which could be bad. His mom had said once that she thought he didn’t have as hard of a time as others because his nature was more gentle. Someone like Malia and Liam, though…
“It’s probably a good thing it only really affects the werewolves in my world otherwise things would probably be… different.” He gave a weak smile. “How are you? How’s Lizzie?”
-- Hope tried to recall if she felt any stronger or more animalistic on a full moon. She knew she tended to feel anticipation more than anything else. Because she could control her change, she didn’t fear the full moon transformation like some of her kind did. Obviously, there was still the physical pain brought on by the change, but outside of that, Hope did not mind becoming a wolf. Sometimes, she even found it relaxing.
“I anticipate the full moon, but I don’t really feel like my nature becomes more prominent. It could be because I can control my change though.” It wasn’t that Hope didn’t have a temper because she did, one that could rival her father’s. However, when it tended to rear its ugly head, it was when Hope was human and capable of doing far worse than biting and scratching.
Hope nodded. “More complicated, definitely.” And they didn’t need anymore complicating things between werewolves.
“I’m doing okay. Dad is keeping out of trouble,” Hope replied softly. “I am sorry about the whole thing with Lydia. He doesn’t think before he acts. It’s not an excuse; it’s just the truth. He just lashes out and I’m sorry that Lydia ended up in his warpath.”
“But Lizzie is doing good. She seems happy. She was upset about Brooke, but now that she’s back, she’s better.” It was a little hard not to feel that expulsion of magic that Lizzie gave off upon learning her friend had been sent home from Madison Valley. At least, she’d calmed down.
--
He nodded. “I can control my change, but it took me a while to figure it out. Which is probably good since otherwise you’d be talking to me while I’m wolfed out.” He smiled a bit, joking while also actually meaning it too.
Scott knew that children weren’t their parents. While he would like to be compared to his mom, he had no desire to be compared to his dad which was why he didn’t hold anything against Hope for having Klaus Michaelson as a dad. Lydia admitted that Klaus was, more or less, nice to her in their meetings even if he was sucking her blood. A part of Scott wanted to ask Hope a ‘what if’ about their upcoming weakness in May - would her father act on something like that if they found out Scott and Malia and some others would lose their werewolf abilities for a short period of time? He decided not to ask her. At least not yet.
“It’s alright. You can’t control him and we know better in case something else happens like this.” Hopefully not, though. “So far March has been pretty quiet and so has April, even with all the weird stuff going on so… I’m kind of hoping nothing else happens.” Tonight might change that though.
He nodded. “That’s good. I know things were rough for her for a while so hopefully things start to settle for her too.”
-- Hope cracked a smile at that. “Would not be the weirdest thing to ever happen to me,” she replied. It might not even crack the top five if she was being honest.
“Yeah, still, he shouldn’t...do things like that.” She wanted to say he knows better, but she also didn’t want to make her dad sound like a naughty child...even if he could act like one sometimes. “But yeah, things seem quiet. Of course there is a supermoon so I guess things could always go badly again.”
Sadly, part of Hope was expecting it too.
“She’ll be okay. Lizzie is stronger than she gives herself credit for sometimes.”
--
He nodded both about her dad and then about Lizzie. He knew someone like that too. Liam was also stronger than he gave himself credit for and probably stronger than some people give him credit for. All in all, Scott was actually pretty proud of Liam.
“Hey… -” He paused as Scott wondered if this was a good idea, but he thought it was. Probably he’d get yelled at later for it. “Do you ever go for a run? Like, with other werewolves?”
-- Hope did go for a “run” once and a while, but she rarely ran with any other wolves. Sometimes she ran with her mom or her dad, but mostly, Hope went by herself. She didn’t mind; back at the school, Hope didn’t run with the other wolves either. Most of that stemmed from her fear of becoming close to anyone and then losing them.
“Sometimes, but mostly by myself. I’ve gone with my parents, separately, a few times. I went with Kate once too, but otherwise, I usually just run by myself.”
--
He gave a small nod, then a second one, thoughtful. “I didn’t really run back home - too many hunters, especially on full moons and stuff. But I do now, sometimes with my pack, but sometimes with other werewolves. If you ever want company, and don’t mind I can’t turn into a full wolf -” Scott smiled wryly at that, he knew he was in the minority for that ability here. “- I wouldn’t mind.”
-- Hope was grateful there were no hunters back home and she, as well as the other wolves, could run freely. No doubt Scott and his pack were enjoying having that newfound freedom in Madison Valley.
Hope didn’t mind running with Scott, full wolf or not. “I wouldn’t mind that.”
It might be helpful for her to get to know Scott better too, especially since her father was dealing with Lydia.
--
“Yeah?” Scott grinned. He might have been expecting her to say no. Not in a rude way or anything, but he wasn’t sure running together would be appealing to her. He nodded. “Great. Cool.”
He knew he had to go check on Malia. She was worried about tonight. So was Liam and Cora. Hopefully they’d all be alright. “I should get going, but let me know when you want to run.”
-- Hope nodded. “Yeah, I will. I hope everything goes okay with the supermoon.”
Hope gave him a wave before moving to enter the building.
