"I've been better," he said with a shrug. "I've also been worse. That's pretty much the way of this place. Though somehow, knowing it could always be worse is nowhere near as helpful as people always want it to be."
Because he knew worse. Knew it all too well.
He smiled wryly as he sat, motioning for Teyla to sit. "It's not the first time this place has taken someone I've been in love with, I'm sure it won't be the last." Which he was trying not to think about, but when you worried about things as much as he did? Sometimes that was easier said than done.
