WHO: Qrow Branwen & Elsa.
WHAT: Having lunch and chatting.
WHEN: Sunday afternoon.
WHERE: Random cafe.
WARNINGS: Probably none.
STATUS: Closed/Ongoing.

Qrow had considered himself lucky that Elsa had gone home and was back before he or Weiss even realized it. He wasn't sure what he would've done if he had known she was gone and hadn't come back in a few or more days. Probably would've fell off the wagon and drank. Although he wouldn't have done it so quickly this time.

But no need to worry about that. Elsa was back and even better, her sister Anna had arrived in town too. Qrow knew how much she missed Anna and how happy she was that she was here. But he could also tell she'd been thinking about her trip home as well. He hadn't asked about it so far, figuring she'll tell him once she was ready.

They were on a little lunch date, sitting in a small cafe. "So how's Anna settling in?" he asked.

With Anna in Madison Valley now, Elsa had used that as a very relevant excuse not to think about her trip home. Obviously, she had to face parts of it, but for the most part, she could avoid most of the "heavier" aspects of the experience. Until, she was alone that is and then suddenly, it all came crashing down around her. How her parents had died to try and find out about where she had come from. That she'd died herself when she'd discovered Ahtohallan and left Anna alone to make the hardest decision of her life.

No, none of it was easy for Elsa to process and when she'd returned just a day later, she was not eager to talk about it. Thankfully, Weiss and Qrow hadn't been without her for long, but it was clear that they knew something was off about her. How could they not? Elsa wasn't exactly good at hiding her feelings and the fact that she could start a snowstorm inside the gelato store with a single thought of home didn't help.

Elsa had been adrift in her head again before Qrow asked about Anna. Quickly, Elsa attempted to catch up with the question and the last strains of the conversation before responding.

"She's doing well. I'm glad to have her here," Elsa answered quickly.

Qrow took a sip of his coffee, something he seemed to drink more ever since he quit drinking alcohol. So he pretty much just traded one addiction for another, but at least caffeine wasn't as bad as alcohol. That's what he figured anyway.

"That's good. It can be hard adjusting to this place, especially if you've been here before and don't remember." That was something he was sure Elsa knew all too well. Though he wasn't there when Anna was around last time, he had known she was here before because Weiss had told him.

"And how are you doing?" he asked, deciding to just say it. He gave her a look that said 'and don't say you're fine because I know you're not'.

Considering the tradeoff, Elsa were much rather have Qrow drinking coffee than alcohol. Obviously, both were not great for you, but Elsa felt better about a cup of coffee versus him having a beer or two.

"I know. Anna is resilient though and she will adjust in time. I know she'll miss Kristoff, but I'll help her through it." Anna loved Kristoff and being apart from him had to be close to how Elsa felt being apart from Anna. She wished he would show up for Anna's sake.

Elsa stiffened visibly at the question. Of course, he would ask eventually. She couldn't put it off forever, could she?

"I'm...dealing. I found out I'm a spirit. The fifth spirit. I've been just...trying to process it all."

"Maybe he'll show up too," Qrow said. Hey, if Anna did, then maybe Kristoff might too. Anything was possible here, even if it seemed impossible more.

No, she couldn't. Qrow would only let her put it off for so long. He himself wasn't great at talking about difficult subjects, but Elsa was one of the few exceptions. Besides, she'd probably end up causing a storm if she kept it in for too long and it all boiled over.

"A spirit?" he repeated. "What exactly is that?" Weren't spirits another name for ghosts? He really hoped that wasn't what she meant.

Elsa was hopeful that he would. At least Anna seemed to be okay without him for the moment. Then again, Anna was strong like Elsa. They kept going even without someone they cared about beside them to help.

"It's not a ghost. It's more like a...powerful being I guess. There are an earth, water, fire, and air spirits too. I'm the one that...keeps them at peace with one another in a way, I guess." Elsa wasn't exactly sure how to explain it, but she wanted to definitely reassure him it had nothing to do with being dead. Even if she had technically died back home for a moment.

Qrow let out a sigh of relief when she said it wasn't the same as a ghost. Sure, she was alive here, but he couldn't stand the thought of her dying back home. He already hated that he lost people, including Ruby's mom. He didn't want to lose anyone else. Even if Elsa would be alive here.

"I've always figured you were powerful," he said. Because she was, especially when she was in control of her powers. "So there's a spirit for each element?" And whichever Elsa was. Snow and ice? Did those count as elements?

Elsa was glad to put his mind at ease about that. While she had died at home, she was definitely not permanently dead. She was able to come back, precisely because she was a spirit. Otherwise, there was no doubt in Elsa's mind that she would be been gone.

At the words, Elsa blushed and nodded. "I'm more powerful than I ever believed, but I guess the big thing is that I know where I belong now. Where I'm from." It was what Elsa had wondered about since she was just a little girl. Knowing put the last puzzle piece of herself in place.

"And yes. I'm guessing mine is like ice, but I'm not sure. I just know I'm capable of keeping peace between them." Elsa took a deep breath.

"But there is something i should tell. I don't want to scare you, but you should know."

"I always knew you were," he said. It was true, he did. Even when she didn't believe it herself, he always knew she was powerful. "Knowing where you belong and where you're from is good to know." Not always. He knew where he was from, but didn't really care much for it.

He nodded, but the last words she said made him frown. "Oh? And what's that?" he asked, even though he wasn't sure he wanted to know. But he had a feeling he should.

"It is." Elsa felt complete in a way that she'd never thought possible. She'd had everything she thought she could want, but this last adventure had showed her she had so much more to know. Though it had changed everything and put herself and her friends in danger, she was glad she had taken the journey.

Elsa took a deep breath. "I did die back home, but I came back because I am one of the spirits. I turned froze into an ice statue." Elsa reached out and quickly took his hand.

"But I'm okay now."

Qrow really hoped it was something else. But no, it was as he dreaded - she had died back home. Sure, she was alive now but he still wished he hadn't heard that. "I'm not sure if I wished I heard that first or not at all," he joked, although there was no humor in his eyes.

"But you're sure you're okay? Like really okay?" he asked, gripping her hands as if she could die and leave again this very moment.

Elsa hadn't wanted to tell him, but she didn't want to keep things from him either. What kind of relationship would they have if they weren't honest with one another?

Elsa took one of his hands and placed the palm against her face. She gave him a reassuring smile, well, the best she could muster at the moment.

"I'm okay, Qrow. I promise. I'm alive and I'm okay."

Qrow definitely agreed. As much as he hated hearing about her death and other things, he still preferred they be honest with each other at the end of the day.

He squeezed her hands again, looking at her, as if looking for any invisible energies. After a moment, he sighed and gave her a little smile before leaning over to kiss her forehead gently. "Okay, good."
