Who: Poe and Fili
What: Matchup
Where: London Starr Metals
When: Friday afternoon
Warnings: probably not
Status: closed/complete

Leo had texted Poe and asked him to stop by the forge to drop off something that he'd forgotten so he didn't have to detour home after school to get it. Since it was his day off from the shop, he was more than happy to help out and headed over that just before lunch time. He figured since he was going out, he may as well treat himself to lunch somewhere, though he hadn't decided where just yet.

When he arrived, he smiled at the man who was working at the moment. "Hey, Fili," he said. "Leo asked me to drop this off," he said, holding up a bag. "How are things going?" They hadn't talked much, but they'd met in passing a few times and Poe knew that his ward liked and respected his coworker and was pleased that he'd returned to Madison Valley.

As per usual, Fili was covered in soot and coal smudges, his sleeves rolled up his forearms and his long hair tied back loosely with a bit of cloth. But he was happy to be back in Madison and in Leo and Jason's good graces, enough so that he had gotten his job back at the shop.

"Hello, Poe." Fili smiled up at the other man, grabbing up a square of linen to wipe his hands on, but really only succeeded in smudging the grime and dirt deeper into the callouses. "It's going very well. We're getting orders in for lawn art and plant hangers." Obviously Spring was just around the corner. "You can set it on the counter, I'll make sure Master Leo gets it... Hopefully you're faring well and are in exceptional health?"

"Thanks," Poe said, finding an out of the way spot to set down the bag so nothing would happen to it. "I'm doing well. No real complaints." He still missed Phoebe sometimes though he was doing his best to move forward with his life. Having the boys and Rey around helped a lot with that. As did his occasional hookups.

He was glad to hear business was going well. It worried him sometimes, how much Leo worked on top of going to school, but he knew that the boy loved his work here. "And you? Settling back in well, I hope?"

Fili felt the same for the people that he had grown close to in Madison the few times he had been here. He often wondered what Tom was up to and if both Elphaba and Lady Sif were happy wherever they were.

"I am, thank you, it was only a few seconds back home so it's been a seamless adjustment time." Mouth quirking, he watched Poe's face. Not that he was a guardian here, but he was well-versed in the looks of worry that passed over the faces of people tasked with looking after someone they love. He had seen that same look cross Thorin's face, and had even felt that way himself about his brother.

"Master Leo seems to be enjoying himself. If only I could bottle up his energy and sell it, I would become a very rich dwarf indeed."

That made Poe laugh. "The benefits of youth," he said. Not that he was that old, but he was starting to feel every one of his thirty plus years more every day. He supposed war would do that to a man.

"Only a few seconds at home but months here? That's interesting," he said. It seemed for most people the opposite occurred. "What is home like for you?"

"Twice back home, I've died in the same instance and the same manner. It's only when I arrive back in the Land of Madison that I remember my time here."

Fili was never going to go to the Halls of his father's fathers. He was never going to sit with those long passed. Madison was his afterlife and he was appreciative of it, though a part of him longed to see his father, uncle and brother again.

"It's best described as.. fantasy?" He had seen that word at the bookstore where a tome of the story of his travels to Erebor was. "You.. You're from the stars, right? If I remember correctly."

Poe vaguely remembered hearing that Fili had died at home, though he had no idea the man had experienced that twice and hearing so made him cringe. "I'm so sorry," he said. "That sounds very unpleasant." At least he'd returned to Madison Valley. Hopefully this time the dome would allow him to stay.

"Yeah, I grew up in another galaxy with interplanetary travel," he said. "There was a portal to my world not too long ago."

"Oh, I'm sorry I missed it." And he truly was. Visiting Poe's world would've been interesting, seeing the stars and moon up close and whatever lay out there beyond the sky.

About his death though, Fili wasn't too put off by it. The first time maybe? It had been a shock that the White Orc had somehow found where both Fili and Kili had been doing a sweep. Honestly, the hardest part of it all was having heard from Nori and Kili both that Thorin and Kili had both perished in the battle as well. He hadn't been there for his brother when he had needed him most, and that hurt more than countless deaths.

"The forge is still stoking, so I should probably get back to it, Poe. It's been nice chatting though and I'll give that bag to Master Leo when he comes back."

[ooc: wrap on yours :)]

"Sorry, didn't mean to pull you away," Poe said with a wave. "I'll get out of your hair. But it was nice talking to you. You should join us for dinner some night. Leo cooks a lot." Because that was a skill that neither Poe nor Rey really possessed.

He flashed a quick smile as he headed out of the shop. "Thanks again, Fili," he called back.
