Miriam and Sam
Who: Miriam and Sam
What: drinks/March meetup
Where: Verdant
When: backdated to Friday night
Warnings: low. alcohol
Status: closed/in progress

Miriam had yet to visit the Verdant and decided it was time. She wanted to be out among people, instead of her apartment. At least, instead of her apartment if she did not have company.

She gave a smile at the bartender as she sat, asking for a Gin and Tonic. "I must be here too early if it is not busy yet."

Sam glanced at his watch. "You're about an hour and a half early, if you want the crowds," he told her. He flashed a smile and set to fixing her drink. "It'll get busy, especially on a Friday night," he added.

He'd worked at Verdant long enough to know the patterns. Friday and Saturday nights were pretty consistent. Weeknights tended to vary, depending on the time of year and if any events were going on in town.

"I am okay missing a crowd for the time being. Sometimes crowds can overwhelm." Being a vampire could mean too many scents and sounds for her brain to process. Plus, she did not enjoy crowds.

"Could I please get a gin and tonic?" Miriam needed something that was not red wine today. Her food supply was a bit depleted and anything red would not help. Blood bank tomorrow definitely needed to happen.

"Have you worked here long?"

"Coming right up," he told her. He sensed something was different about her, but Madison was full of people who were different. it didn't bother Sam one bit, as long as she didn't attack anyone, or try to hurt other people. His hunting days were behind him, for better or worse.

"Off and on," he answered her question. He'd worked at Verdant before he'd left town for several months, and Sara gave him his job back when he'd returned. Technically it had been a few years, but his current employment had only been several months.

"It's a good place to work. The boss is awesome." Despite being Sam's ex, there was no awkwardness there to speak of.

"Thank you very much." When he handed her the drink she took a sip, before asking, "Could I also get a lemon slice please?" She enjoyed a little lemon and lime in her drinks. Closes to fruit, outside of berries, she could get.

"Are you a person who has gone back home before? I find that so odd and interesting, although I suppose if it happens it feels unsettling." Miriam smelled him and asked, "Human?" The problem with bars, is that sometimes pulling out a new person's scent was a bigger challenge.

Sam nodded. "I have gone home. A few times, actually. I arrived here in 2014. A few months after I got here, I went home and lived out a couple years, though only a few days passed here. I went home again, returned within a few days. The last time I went home, I was gone for about nine months, yet no time at all passed at home. I've been back almost a year at this point."

Sam rolled his shoulders and handed her a plate of lemon slices. "I'm human," he told her. "Mostly. I was fed demon blood as an infant. My mom walked in on it, that's why she was murdered." The fact he had demon blood in his veins wasn't a secret. At least he didn't make an effort to keep it secret. It was part of who and what he was.

Miriam followed everything he was saying, before reacting with "That sounds exhausting." It truly did. Miriam was pretty sure that going home and returning even once would annoy her.

"Thank you. I am sorry that is what caused your mother's death. I would do that if someone tried doing that to my son." She hoped Jason was okay.

"I am a vampire." No sense in hiding her identity.

Sam nodded. "That's good to know." It was good to know. He liked knowing what supernaturals were in town. Not to keep tabs on them, but just to know.

"Full disclosure, I used to hunt supernatural creatures back home. I don't anymore," which was sort of a lie. he did still hunt back home. But not in Madison. There was no need. "So thank you for telling me."

He still wasn't going to divulge his demon blood issue. It wasn't a problem, unless he drank demon blood which he hadn't for a very long time, and never would again, if he had any say in it.

Miriam's expression looked amused when he mentioned hunting supernaturals back home. "Back home I am currently helping protect creatures from other creatures. Although I suppose they could be classified as 'supernaturals'."

Miriam did not judge people, unless they tried to kill her or were super horrendous, like Gerbert.

"So, what kind of supernaturals do you have back home? My world has vampires, witches, demons, and of course humans."

"Well, to be fair, the vampires in my world are vicious killers, and all they care about is the hunt and the kill and the blood." He wasn't even sure how many he'd beheaded, but there were a few. He wouldn't get into that, though. Or the fact he'd allowed Dean to get bit once upon a time. He hadn't been himself when that happened.

"Mostly we hunt demons, but whatever comes our way. We hunt what needs hunting." There were really too many species to rattle them all off.

"We have some vicious killing vampires at home. They give the rest of us a bad name." Miriam sniffed, obviously annoyed to have any association with them.

"I assume the demons in your world are different from ours. Most of ours are creative geniuses, like Christopher Marlow. They're into art and music, although my one friend actually does quite well in the financial sector." Miriam did not feel the need to get into how many demons now were descending into madness and suicide.

"Yeah, no," Sam shook his head. "Demons are...demons. From hell. They take over a person's body and there's nothing nice or at all redeeming about it." There was only one demon who had potential, but Crowley was a different sort of demon. He was also in Madison, but Sam didn't mention that.

"They just want to take people's souls. And they'll do that by whatever means necessary." There might be more to it, but that was the basic drive for the demons in Sam's experience.

Miriam did not like the sound of his world's demons. "I do not think I like your version. Ours are much more personable."

She finished her drink and asked, "One more, please."

She thought about what Sam said. There were prejudices against demons back home, but most were good, if not absentminded.

"I wonder how your world's demons differ so much from mine," Miriam mused.

"I've found the facts vary greatly from one reality to the next," Sam told her. He'd been in Madison, and talked to enough people, long enough to know that was true. "There's a few people, or there's been people over the years, who have demons, vampires, werewolves, witches, and the like. And almost every one has a different experience. That's just how it is, I guess."

He rolled his shoulders. There were more customers he needed to serve. "I've got to check on a few refills, take some orders. Let me know if you need a refill," he told her. He didn't want to be rude, but he was on the clock.

"That makes sense."

She nodded. "Of course."
