Who: Steve Rogers and Leonard Snart What: Match up/meeting of the security minds When: Nowish Where: Hinkles Warnings: Nah Status: Completed GDoc
Steve had finished work and was going home to the farmhouse instead of Darcy’s. She was still at work so he thought he’d check in, see how everyone was. He was hungry, however, and didn’t want casino food. He hadn’t been to Hinkle’s in a while and felt that would be a good idea.
The joke was on him. Hinkle’s was busy. There wasn’t even counter space. He was about to leave since he didn’t want to wait too long when the hostess suggested he ask one of the single seated customers if he could share their table. Steve typically didn’t like to intrude, but he was pretty hungry.
He went to the closest table with only one person at it and approached with a friendly smile. “Hey. Do you mind if I share your table?”
Leonard hadn't actually visited Hinkles until this very moment. Or, if he had then it had been the man who had been there before him. That was still pretty mind blowing. Knowing that there had been someone in Madison Valley before him, who was him. Though, he tried not to think too much about that.
He'd left Verdant not that long ago and decided to grab food. Food was going to be a while and that was fine by him. He could wait just fine. It didn't bother him any. They'd been provided phones upon arrival and he could still message people. Like a certain captain. Or play games. Though, he's sure that he'd have to find something that would hold his attention.
Looking up he gives the stranger a slight smile," Seats open. Have a seat."
Steve’s smile was downright huge compared to this guy’s, but he knew not everyone was a happy go-lucky type. “Thanks,” he said then sat down across from his new tablemate.
The casino security coat was taken off with a show of respect for wrinkles then placed on the back of his chair. “Name’s Steve,” he said while he waited for the waitress.
There were a few people that he'd seen smile like that. Most of the time? Complete and total strangers or his little sister. Lisa had a smile that would've won just about any guy over. Leonard, on the other hand, only smiled when it worked in his favor. It didn't mean that he wasn't genuinely happy, though.
"Leonard." He does, however, notice the security coat and raises a brow. It wasn't one that he recognized. Then again, he kept himself pretty casual unless he was inside Verdant. "Work for a security company or something?" He could be casual, talking wise, when he wanted to be. He was genuinely curious though too.
Steve gave a nod of acknowledgement. “Nice to meet you,” he said. The waitress showed up and he ordered a couple of double cheeseburgers, curly fries and a Coke then turned back to Leonard.
“The casino,” he answered. “I expected it to be more boring than it is, but apparently, people take their gambling more seriously.”
"Nice to meet you too."
Even if Leonard wasn't one to actively go out of his way to meet people. This? He'd call a fluke. More because they'd been stuck in the place while it was busy. Something that could very well get two people talking, it seemed. At the mention of the casino, he gives a bit of a nod.
"I haven't gone to the casino yet," he tells him. "I work over at Verdant. It keeps me pretty busy. Did the people where you're from not take gambling so seriously?"
“Nice place,” Steve said. And it was. Maybe he’d have to see about taking Darcy there some time.
“Don’t know,” he said with a shrug. “Never really left New York except for the war, then doing the hero thing. Not exactly the type to go to Vegas or Atlantic City.” Which were the only two places he knew would have casinos.
It helped that Verdant was filled with good people. Even if he didn't know all of them, but that was neither here nor there. The only person he knew at work was his boss and that's only because the two of them had a history. Sara was a part of his past. A part of his here and now too. Someone that he respected and cared for.
"Just not your scene then?" He wasn't judging the other man, he got it. Gambling wasn't really his scene. Not with money, anyway. With his life maybe, but not with anything else. It all depended on the situation.
“Not really, no.” Steve chuckled. He’d seen how people were when they lost, and when they won. Neither reactions were anything he wanted to emulate. Sometimes they were amusing to watch, and he genuinely felt happy for those who won. Sometimes, the reactions weren’t so good, and that was when he had to step in.
“What about you?” he asked. “Any excitement at Verdant?”
Leonard had seen quite a bit of gambling growing up. Either when it came to his old man or the people that the Snart family had hung around. Gambling could lend to some pretty heavy shit. It could also lead to bloodshed. Not something that any company wanted on their hands.
"It can get exciting, sometimes," he tells him with a bit of a smirk. "Really all depends on how much someone has had to drink." Too much and they could be one of those drunks that were happy go lucky. Someone that hung off of someone. Then there was the angry drunks who just wanted to start a fight. Those were the ones that he tended to kick out on their ass.
"Haven't had to hurt anyone yet."
The key word in that statement, however, was yet.
Steve chuckled for the emphasis. “Can’t say I’ve been that lucky.” With the casino it wasn’t just one or the other. He had the good fortune of both drunk and gambling. “Sometimes alcohol and poker don’t mix. I’ve had to eject a few people and sometimes they struggle too much and hurt themselves. Then there are the ones that are blackballed from the casino and try to get in anyway. Usually, they rush the doors.” And ran into Steve.
"You call that luck?" He asks with a hint of amusement to his tone. Though, he guessed it would be considered lucky. He's not sure how bad it had been before he'd taken over head of security. That was something that he'd have to ask Sara. Or one of the others that worked in Verdant. He doubted that people got into too much trouble.
"Well, damn. I guess that is worse," he teases. "Bet those ones are fun." It's said even as the food arrives and he gives the waitress a nod and a bit of a smile. "I might have to come check the casino out some time."
Steve chuckled. “Whenever you want. Let me know and I’ll set you up with a good table.” Meaning an honest and trustworthy dealer and a drink on the house. Steve smiled as he gave a nod. “Good to meet you.”
