She smiled at the consideration for her and her child, and gave it some thought. "He will be cold," she said. "And so might I, a little," she admitted. Her dress was quite warm, full length and made of velvet, but she was used to the warm climes of Rome, and so she was a little uncertain about how she would fare if it was winter once they got outside the doors of the market hall.
They were passing the clothing section and she could see that sure enough there were heavy coats and tiny clothes, seemingly fitted for infants.
"I don't know what we should do about it though," she confessed. "I have no money."
"Would you really take me in?" she asked, when Shosanna made her an offer of hospitality. "Me and my baby? Knowing that we have nothing to give? And your... husband will not mind?"
She was overwhelmed by this kindness, and tried not to be suspicious about it. The woman seemed nice and besides, she hadn't much choice in trusting her, not when she was without money or friends, or indeed anything but the clothes on her back and a small, hungry mouth to feed.
