WHO: Qrow Branwen & Ruby Rose. WHAT: Fighting snowmen! WHEN: Saturday. WHERE: In town. WARNINGS: Just a bit of violence against snowmen. STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc.
After being cooped up in the apartment, Qrow was beginning to get restless. So he transformed into his crow form and hopped out the window so he could fly around for a bit. The freezing air made it a little difficult but he somehow managed to stay in the air.
He flew around for awhile, scanning the area below him. All he saw was just a ton of snow as far as he could see. Nothing much else. But something moved in the corner of his eye and he lowered down for a quick, closer look. There were about a dozen snowmen and snowcreatures, but they were alive and moving. They were also attacking anyone who came close.
It was then Qrow got an idea and he flew up until he perched on the top of a nearby building. Quickly transforming back into his human form, he pulled out his phone and dialed Ruby. "Hey, kiddo. I'm in town. Wanna come fight some snowcreatures with me?" he asked. No doubt she'd be excited for the chance to fight for awhile. "And bring my weapon with you, please. It's in my room," he added in the request before she got the chance to hang up.
Now he just had to wait, which with Ruby, probably would only take a few moments.
At the phone call from Uncle Qrow, Ruby was ecstatic. There were almost never any chances to test her skills here. Grabbing Uncle Qrow’s weapon from his room and double checking for her own, Ruby sprinted out the door...only to have to come back and bundle up in her scarlet red coat before setting off again.
Thanks to her Semblence, Ruby was whizzing through the streets with ease despite the heavy snowfall. It was as if she barely touched the ground at all; she was mostly just a red blur and it was almost as if she were flying.
Once she arrived, Ruby sent Qrow a text to let him know she was nearby. She had just finished the message when a snowball pelted her in the back of the head.
“Ow!” Ruby turned and spotted a snowman making his way over, another snowball ready in a stick hand. Ruby quickly invoked her Semblence, spinning through the air in a whire of rose petals before taking off the snow man’s head with her scythe.
A great thing about Ruby's Semblance was that Qrow didn't have to wait that long. While it would've taken most people ten minutes or more to get to where he was from the apartment complex, it only took his niece five seconds to get there. When he heard the familiar sounds of Ruby and her flurry of rose petals, he turned and smiled at her.
He took his weapon from her just as a snowball hit her on the head. "Thanks, kiddo," he said, trying hard not to laugh as she took off and attacked. He joined her, slicing a few snowmen in half with his sword. While he could transform his weapon into a scythe just like Ruby's, he decided to keep it in it's sword form for now.
As Ruby slid to a halt to pass Qrow's weapon, a snowman pelted her in the back of the head with a snowball. Ruby rubbed the back of her head gingerly, but she did manage a smile for her Uncle.
“Of course. I’d never miss out on a chance like this.” Ruby took off, heading straight towards the snowman who had hit her in the head with a snowball. In a flurry of rose petals, Ruby flipped the Crescent Rose, slicing horizontally to cut the evil frozen creature in half expertly. Ruby let out a laugh before she bounced away, aiming for a snowman that was about to hit Uncle Qrow with a barrage of snowballs.
“Watch out, Uncle Qrow!” Ruby invoked her Semblence, jumping up over the snowman before crashing down on it, knocking it to the ground.
"I know you wouldn't," her uncle gave her a grin. There was a reason why he called her in the first place. He knew how much Ruby loved a good fight. He was the one who taught her everything and she always had so much energy, that he was surprised how well she adjusted to not fighting so much in Madison.
He returned to the fight, slicing and dicing snowmen with his sword. While it was quite easy to defeat them, the only problem was that there were so many. As he sliced one in half, a couple more came. He was so busy dealing with them all that he hadn't been aware of the snowman aiming at him with a ton of snowballs until Ruby yelled.
He finished off the group of snowmen he'd been dealing with and turned in time to see a red blur tackle the other snowman. "Good job, kiddo," he said and went back to fighting as more snowmen came.
Honestly? It drove Ruby stir-crazy not to fight. At least, not to be able to utilize her skills. She would never choose fighting over peace, but there was no denying it provided an outlet for the massive amount of energy Ruby possessed. Without it, she was left with very little else to fill that void, which sucked. At least, she still had Weiss and Qrow to spar with, but it wasn’t the same as kicking Grimm butt once and a while.
While the snowmen were obviously not Grimm, they provided that same kind of experience and Ruby would be lying if she said she wasn’t having the time of her life right now. She was so glad Uncle Qrow had called her.
“Of course!” Ruby beamed, taking off towards another group that was advancing on the two of them. It was going to definitely be a long, exhausting fight, but Ruby was looking forward to it. It was the first time she’d been happy in a while.
Ruby definitely had a lot more energy than both Qrow and Weiss. She had to burn it off somehow. Weiss seemed to fight only when she absolutely had to. Qrow was sort of in the middle of them - he enjoyed fighting and got a thrill out of it like Ruby, but there also had to be a good reason. He didn't fight just for the sake of it. Not always.
He returned the grin and joined her in defeating the snowmen. He was glad to see his niece happy and enjoying herself.
