Christmas wasn't an important time of the year to Nico. He'd never really celebrated it, and it wasn't like he was even Christian. Nobody'd ever really been around to buy him gifts, either, and all of his family was dead. Still, he liked the candy, and that was something.
He was at Walmart basically to waste time and get one of those hot pretzels they sold in the snack bar. He liked the winter days and how early it got dark; there were many more shadows to travel through and he'd always felt more comfortable in the darkness.
He came out of the shadows near the Christmas ornaments, just appearing. One second he wasn't there, and the next he was. He nearly ran into the guy who he hadn't expected to be there.
"Sorry," he said quietly, glad that he hadn't actually run into the guy.
