Who: Pietro and Wanda Maximoff What: Pietro's Arrival Where: The Farmhouse When: Saturday Evening into Sunday Morning Warnings: N/A Status: Complete | Open to those at the Farmhouse
Showing up in a strange place, somewhere in the states, after nearly being shot was definitely a shock to the system. He was unfamiliar with Madison Valley and after taking the welcome envelope from the council, he heads off to a different part of the city.
Of course, after stopping he takes a look at the network, realizing that his sister's name was attached to it. Which has him reaching out to her. Okay, so he could've reached out to the network as a whole and he still would in order to learn more about the place, but that wasn't his top priority, not in that moment. What was? His sister. She would always be his top priority.
Even if he had noticed a few other names he recognized on the network.
Thanks to dome weirdness, Wanda was currently ten years old and having a blast. There were other kids to play with, like Darcy, Clint, Carl, and Dawn, and the grown-ups were pretty much letting them do whatever they wanted. When her phone buzzed, she didn’t grab it immediately, distracted by painting Darcy’s nails. When she finally did look at it, she squealed to see her brother’s name.
Rather than texting him, she tapped the button to call and, as soon as he answered, she started babbling, not even noticing that he sounded much older. “Pietro! Hiiiii! You’re here!!! This is so exciting! I’ll get one of the adults to find you and bring you to the farm.”
He wasn't familiar with the weirdness of the dome, but he had noticed that there were a lot of children around. Something he'd noticed when he'd went running only a few moments before, checking out the place. He does, however, look down at his phone and isn't used to such a long wait. Okay, he wasn't used to waiting at all. Not when it came to his sister.
The poor speedster wasn't expecting the phone to ring, or how small her voice sounded over the device. "Wanda? Yeah, I'm here." Though, he didn't know why she needed an adult to come find him. "Why don't you just tell me where the farm is and I'll come to you." He needed to find out why she sounded so… small.
“It’s outside town!” Wanda said. “Down the road past the Wendy’s!” They weren’t great directions, but at the age of ten, there weren’t really any more important landmarks than the place where she could get a frosty or a burger.
She’d been missing her twin. Having other kids around was nice, but it wasn’t the same at all. “Ugh, stop it, Judith!” she said and then there was a rustling sound.
“Uncle Pietro? Is that you?” An older voice came on the line. “Of course you show up in the middle of crazy. I’ll text you the address for the farmhouse.”
Outside of town past the Wendy's. That didn't really tell him exactly where his sister was. Or where this farm was. The poor guy also didn't know who in the world Judith was, but she was calling him uncle. His sister didn't have any kids. Not that he was aware of, at any rate. Things like that shouldn't have been possible.
"It's me." Even though he wasn't entirely sure about answering that, but might as well. This Judith was also talking about how he'd showed up in the middle of crazy. Whatever in the hell that meant. "Do that and I'll be there in no time."
Wanda tried to wrestle her phone back from Judith, but the older girl managed to send a text before she did. “Ugh, she’s the worst,” Wanda complained when she got her phone back. “Her and Nate are SO MEAN to me and Clint.”
Still, she supposed it was okay that Judith had texted Pietro the address of the farm.
There it was again. His sister's voice so small over the phone. This was really throwing him off. More than what he was used to. New York had thrown him for a loop, but not this bad. He still wasn't entirely sure who Judith was. Or who Nate was and why they were being mean to her and... Barton. Not that he could see anyone being mean to Clint or his sister.
"Why don't you hang up and I'll be there in a blink of an eye," he tells her. Last thing he needed was to mess up the phone or drop it, not that he thought he would, while running.
“Okay!” Wanda hung up abruptly, running out to the front porch to wait for him. It felt like she’d been here for so long without her brother and it was exciting that he was finally here. This town was so much better than home. They had people here who cared about them and a roof over their head.
She leaned on the railing, keeping watch for Pietro.
The abrupt way the phone was hung up amused the hell out of him. He'd seen the excited side of his sister a few times growing up. After the destruction of their home, that had only come with a few of the things that he'd stolen for her. Giving her the world. Then again, if your twin was the other half of your soul, she deserved the world.
True to his word, he was there. In a blink of an eye. So, even though she was leaning on the rail keeping watch for him she'd probably catch more of a blue and silver blur. Assuming he wasn't going too fast for her little eyes. However, he's suddenly standing there in front of the porch of the farm giving her a slight smile.
There was no way that was his sister, right? Was this the crazy that Judith person was talking about?
Blinking in confusion, Wanda frowned. The speed was a sure sign that this was Pietro, but he was so old and she didn’t understand why. “Pietro?” she said, her tone wary, but her accent evident in her speech.
“You must be from the future!” She was young and easier to accept the unusual at this age, so she darted off the porch and ran over to hug him. “You’re so old instead of being ten like me. That happens sometimes though. Judith is supposed to be Carl’s little sister and she’s bigger.”
Whereas, for him, it was weird to see her so small. The last time she'd been that tiny was when their parents were still alive. Not something that he wanted to think about. Even if he could process the thought rather quickly, just like the speed he used to get around. "It's me, Wanda."
From the future? Pietro wasn't entirely sure about that, nor did he dwell on it. Once she's close enough he picks her up and hugs her. "Who're you calling old?" He teases. Though, when she mentions Judith he gives a bit of a nod," Last time I checked, I didn't have any nieces. So how would I be her uncle?" Not that he really cared about the answer.
"What were you doing before you called me?"
Wanda shrugged, throwing her arms around his neck. “I dunno why she called you that,” she said. “Everyone is acting kind of weird the last few days.” Everything was normal as far as she was concerned, but Steve especially seemed pretty stressed.
“I was painting Darcy’s nails!” she said. “You can meet her and everyone! And you can stay here with us! You can sleep with me until we get you your own bed.”
If he were anyone else and hadn't seen what things could be done to people this would've been weirder. Though, it was still pretty damn weird to him. He dutifully listens as she talks about how things everyone was acting kind of weird. "I'm sure everyone will go back to normal soon enough." Or, at least, he hoped they would.
"I bet you were doing a great job of it too," Pietro tells her with a smile. "Where are we going? I'll carry you." Funny how he hadn't been worried about a phone. His sister, however, was a different story. She would always be more protected than a piece of equipment. "I think I'd like that."
“Inside!” Wanda said, pointing to the front door of the farm house. “Let’s go!”
She was excited to introduce her brother to everyone and stayed close to his side while he chatted with people and got a snack. Then it was bedtime and she insisted that he sleep with her since her bed was so big.
Once she was in her pajamas and brushed her teeth, she curled up under the blankets with a smile. “Don’t go away, okay?” she said.
A part of him wanted to be slow about heading inside, but that just wasn't who he was. So, they ended up inside in no time. It was good to see her happy. She deserved to be happy.
He lets her introduce him to the people that he didn't know, keeping an eye on where she was at all times. He knew his sister could protect herself, but she was so small. Smaller than he was used to.
Pietro would worry about sleep clothes and everything else later, merely laying down on the big bed under the covers and giving her a smile in turn," Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere. Get some sleep." Or as much sleep as an excited little one could get.
Even he'd try to sleep. There were no bullets coming at him. If he stayed awake, which was doubtful, the only thing that would be able to do that was the sounds of the strange farm house. So, by the time morning does come he's right beside her. Still asleep.
When Wanda woke up in the morning, she laughed to herself as she stretched, remembering the past week spent as a child, running around with the others and being looked after by Judith and Nate, along with Steve, Natasha, and Valkyrie. A part of her wished that she’d been able to fully appreciate getting to know the children as adults instead of being small herself.
A sudden memory of the previous night, of her brother’s arrival, got her heart racing, especially when she realized that someone was in bed next to her. Was it possible? Was that real? Could the dome have returned him to her after taking so much away.
Rolling to her side slowly, she gasped aloud when she saw the shock of white hair sticking out from under the blankets. “Pietro!” she exclaimed, not even caring if she woke him.
Oddly enough Pietro had managed to stay asleep in the new house. Maybe it was because Wanda was there beside him, or knowing that she was safe. There could've been numerous reasons that he'd managed to get comfortable. Even if he was still weirded out by being anyone's uncle. That was a different problem for a different day.
He'd of stayed asleep if it wasn't for the loud voice above his head. So, there's a bit of a groan and he pulls the blanket down from off his head. His sister's voice hadn't sounded like that the day before. It had been tiny and excitable, not that it wasn't now, and just generally happy. Which was a good look on his sister.
Sleep blurred eyes look over and he gives her a smile," Well, hello to you too."
“You’re really here. That wasn’t a dream.” Wanda could barely breathe she was so thrilled to have him here. She leaned over to hug him, even though it was awkward with him lying down. “It’s been far too long, brother. I’ve missed you.”
She hadn’t seen her brother in years, hadn’t really expected to see him again ever after he left Madison Valley given that she knew what fate awaited him. So much had changed for her, both here and at home, in the five and a half years since they initially arrived in this town.
"I'm really here."
The hug was a little more than awkward, but he hugs her back. Even pushing himself up a bit to sit up. Even if that didn't stop it from still being a little awkward. It didn't matter, though. What did? Was that he could keep his promise to her. He hadn't gone anywhere. Nor did he plan to go anywhere.
"I've missed you too."
Even if, for him, it hadn't been that long since seeing her. Once he was awake enough he'd ask about the girl on the phone, for now, he was content to hold and hug his sister.
There was so much Wanda had to tell him. She almost suggested they head down to the kitchen so she could make coffee and breakfast, but that could wait. No doubt the others would be up and about soon enough and she wanted to fill him in before they had to deal with the masses.
She eventually let go of him and then leaned back against the headboard. “I am sorry you arrived in the midst of chaos. I assume you got the welcome spiel about how we’re trapped here. Time is… different here. What is the last thing that happened for you at home?” In some ways, she hoped it wasn’t Sokovia and him being killed, but then again, she knew she would never be able to keep that secret from him.
He sits up a bit more and sits back against the headboard beside her," I don't know, the chaos was a bit cute." There's a smirk as he says it before shaking his head," Not fully, no. I mean you try to tell someone that's far too fast for you about the ways of the world, you're not bound to keep up with them." He hadn't really given the city council enough time to give him the spiel. "Got what I needed, saw your name in the network and ended up here."
Trapped didn't sound too bad. Not if it meant that his sister was there. As for time, it was different for him to begin with. He could probably break it if it came down to it. Not something that he wanted to test out any time soon either. "Saving Hawkeye." There's a look on her face that he doesn't get exactly," I ended up here as bullets were coming towards us."
Wanda nodded. “That is the point I originally arrived from,” she said. “That was five and a half years ago by the calendar here. More time has passed at home.” It seemed more important to tell him about the things that he’d missed here in Madison Valley than the ones he’d missed at home.
“You were here before, though you don’t remember,” she said. “So there will be some people here who know you that you do not know.” Which made her think of Alex. She was going to have to text her and warn her that Pietro was back so she didn’t run into him unexpectedly. “I was married for several years, but my husband was sent back to his home nearly a year ago. Before he left, we adopted two children, Carl and Judith, who you met last night, though neither of them was the correct age. Judith is five and Carl is nineteen. He and his girlfriend, Dawn, live in the loft apartment above the barn on this property.”
A vague recollection of Judith referring to him as ‘uncle’ came to mind and made her realize that her daughter knew who he was. That was a good thing. “Steve also lives here. As does Clint, with his youngest child, Nate. Unfortunately, his wife and older children haven’t been here in several years.” And she would let Clint share Nate’s full name with him.
Five and a half years ago. His sister had been in this place for five and a half years, without him. That wasn't something that he could really comprehend. Not something that he wanted to accept. Even weirder was her telling him that he was there before. A part of him wanted to blame his speed, but he knew otherwise.
"Who were you married to?" Pietro wanted to ask if whoever this man was took care of his sister. Not that he could do anything about it if he hadn't. The man wasn't there anymore. He does, however, smile at the mention of her adopting kids. That would explain the young woman on the phone last night and why she'd referred to him as 'uncle'.
It sounded like the place was full. That made up what... six or so people in one place. Then again, he hadn't exactly explored the place when he'd gotten there. He'd been too focused on the tiny version of his sister.
"I'm sure I'll meet them all properly, eventually."
“His name was John,” she said. “He was a good man. I can show you some pictures.” Wanda missed him still, but it was more of a nostalgic thing than the persistent ache she’d felt when he first was sent home.
She knew that Clint would be thrilled to see Pietro here again. “You’re welcome to stay here,” she said. “We’ll make the room for you.” Of course, she would understand if he preferred his own place that was more peaceful, though she hoped to keep him close. There was no telling how long he’d be here this time and she didn’t want to waste a moment.
John. He didn't know anyone with that name that he could remember. That didn't matter. His sister said that he was a good man then he'd trust that he was. "I'd like to see pictures." If the man made Wanda happy then that was all that mattered to him. Nothing else did. It wasn't to say that he wouldn't eventually find happiness himself, maybe, but she came first. Always.
"Do you really think that I'm going anywhere?" Pietro asks her with a bit of a smirk. "I'm staying right here with my sister. Good luck catching me to try and get me to go anywhere else."
There was a lot more that Wanda knew she needed to tell him, but for now, she was simply going to enjoy the fact that he was here. “Good,” she said. “Let’s go downstairs. You can meet everyone properly and we can have breakfast.”
All the other details could wait. She had her twin back and that was all that mattered right now.
