Nancy was so happy with all these new people who were trying to watch out for her until she found papa. She deserved some fun, especially because she knew what was waiting for her whenever she found her papa. He was going to blame her for this even when she didn’t know how this happened. She’d probably end up with the belt or the cigars and cigarettes as her punishment for not being at home. Terrified and knowing what was coming, she was hoping maybe if the people said she was good, then she wouldn’t end up in trouble. Or maybe her mom would get to her first, and not tell papa about what happened. Even though Nancy couldn’t remember a time where her mom tried to stop papa, she still kept hoping. It only made Nancy grasp on more to trying to enjoy all the fun times with people since it’d probably be her last thing of freedom other than going to school.
Though she had been trying to stay near without talking, knowing that sometimes got her into trouble. Looking around at all the different things going on, her attention was captured by a person walking a puppy across the street into the park. Holding the tablet against her chest so as not to drop it considering it was the only way she could talk to people, Nancy ignored all the rules ever laid out for her to go follow the puppy. Crossing the street, she went further into the park, hoping to find the puppy. Pouting when she realized that the puppy was long gone and would have to head back. Realizing now she was going to be in big trouble for not sticking and wandering off for a puppy. Turning on her feet, she started to head back in the direction she had just come, hoping she wasn't going to be in big trouble.
