Who: Sydney Sage & John Constantine
Where: Magic Alley
When: Today
Warnings: TBD
Status: In Progress

Despite the fact that she'd gotten married in September, Sydney hadn't slowed down in any other aspects of her life. She was still attending college courses, continuing her own magical and personal studies, and running the magic shop itself. Having three regular employees helped with that a great deal, than when she'd been the only one working there for a brief period after Hermione had originally been sent home; in fact, the one year anniversary of the accident that had sent so many people away was coming up in less than two months, and Syd felt that the other woman would be proud of what she'd done so far.

At the moment, the store was slow and Sydney was alone, taking advantage of the brief pause between customers to brush up on her Sumerian, murmuring the words softly to herself before checking against her own notes. It wasn't a language taught at the university, but it was one she sometimes came across in a few of the store texts and wanted to better understand.

When the soft bell over the door tinkled, Sydney dutifully shut her notebook and stood with a ready smile as she looked over. "Welcome to Magic Alley," she said lightly.

John had explored most of Madison Valley since he'd gotten there. Even held a few jobs, one of them being in the college library. It was something that Zee had suggested and he'd latched onto. Especially when it allowed him his solitude when he needed it. Along with the many different books.

Magic Alley had caught his attention, by name alone. Even though he knew that all he'd have to do is ask Zee about the place, but he wanted to explore more. Get out there a bit. It's when he's entering that he hears it. Soft and faint. A language that he's not heard in a long time. One he's familiar with. Funny how that worked. He couldn't speak latin for shit, but the older languages were good.

He gives Sydney a smile when she greets him," Hello, love."

The professional edge on her smile slipped a bit, easing into something more friendly as she studied him. "Constantine - I'd wondered when I'd see you in here." Knowing he might question that, Sydney stepped out from behind the counter and crossed the room to him.

"I knew you two versions ago, when you were here. And the last version I talked to once or twice. I know you don't remember being here, but I'd like to say I'm glad that the dome seems to be a fan," she told him with a bright smile.

"Are you looking for anything in particular, or are you just curious about what we have here?"

What was it with people knowing him? Bloody carbon copies making friends with complete and total strangers. Though, last few copies of himself, from what he knows, weren't the best. Which made him curious about the one this bird knew. Curiosity always seemed to get the better of him too.

"Wasn't too much of a bloody prat was he?"

That bright smile has him giving a bit of a smile of his own. Couldn't be too bad if she was smiling like that," Sating my curiosity, love. Magic and all." Something that he was damn good at. Ancestral blood ran through his veins for the shit, after all.

"No more than what's probably usual for you," she quipped, though the words were softened by that smile that she maintained, because despite his rough edges Sydney had enjoyed talking to Constantine and learning about magic from him.

"I thought as much," she said, before gesturing at the store in general. "Feel free to look around and let me know if you have any questions or if you're looking for something in particular. Most of the main stock is your more commercial fare; I keep a lot of the genuine, rare, or dangerous items locked up, but they're available by request." Her own magic and spellwork helped her with that and she was honestly glad she'd taken a job here.

"I'm not the one who originally opened the store, but I run it now. The original person was Hermione Granger, a wizard from the Harry Potter universe."

"Is that right then?"

From what he'd heard the other versions of him hadn't been that great. Or, they'd done things that he never would've done. Something that he didn't particularly like. He also wasn't exactly fond of the whole thing with the maids or whatever they were, in the fifties town. Whatever it was. Honestly? He's trying not to think about that.

"That right?" He asks with a raised brow before shaking his head. "How'd you meet my carbon copy exactly, love?" That? He was a bit more than curious about.

"As a matter of fact, we met on the network." Syd motioned towards her phone and laptop, which sat behind the counter - the first turned over and the second closed out of politeness of the fact that she had someone else in the store, of course.

"You...he'd already been here for quite a while when I arrived, and I showed up after only learning magic for a short time back in my world. In fact, I think he's the one who pointed me towards the store and Hermione...so in a roundabout way, I have you to thank for me being here today." Sydney smiled a bit, then went on.

"My name is Sydney Sage-Ivashkov, by the way. I'm sorry I hadn't introduced myself yet."

Met on the network. Well, he could see that happening. There had been a few different people since he'd arrived in Madison Valley that he'd met on the network. Most of them hadn't been met personally, not yet. That would probably be remedied at some point.

"Well, I don't know Hermione, but I'm glad that you were introduced to someone who could help you," he tells her with a bit of a smile. Though, he's not entirely sure why he'd show her to someone who could help when he could help her better. That made no sense whatsoever to him.

"Pleasure to meet you, love. You've continued your studies then? Despite the fact she's not here."

"I have, yes. Hermione's magic is too different from mine for me to learn that sort of wizardry, but you helped at the time, and I learned from others." The Halliwells had helped a great deal, too, and their powers had been a little closer to hers.

"That's one of the things we do here at the shop - compare magic and abilities from different worlds, how they're alike and different." It was one of the things Sydney loved doing, but she knew she'd sound a little too "nerdy" if she said that out loud. "There are meetings, classes, lessons, rituals, and just discussions whenever people want to come here for them. And you're welcome to stop by anytime too, of course."

It was weird to hear how he'd helped someone that he didn't even know. A part of him was even more curious about this other version of himself. Even more so about this Hermione person too. Maybe there would be something about that. Or how a version of himself had turned the girls onto one another for teaching purposes.

"I'll keep that in mind, love," he tells her. "Not much of a group person, but I'll keep that in mind."

"Good," she said with satisfaction, the faint silvery-gold tattoo on her cheek catching the light for an instant as she gave a quick smile, before she turned to head back over to the counter. "If you have any questions about anything, please let me know." Sydney didn't want to crowd him while he looked around, and while she would be keeping a casual eye on him as she would any customer, she wanted to make sure she was available, and thus she busied herself with cleaning the glass case that contained some of the more expensive jewelry.

"Have you managed to settle in well, since your arrival?"

Honestly, he could feel her eyes on him. Something that amused him to no end. It made him wonder that much more about his other selves. He could also, if he wanted, disappear from her sight if need be. Magic like that wasn't even hard to do. Especially if you needed the illusion that you weren't there. Papa Midnite hated that shit. Only one he couldn't pull that trick on was Manny. Someone he hadn't thought about in a while.

"Zee's here. She's made settling in this place that much easier," he tells her with a soft smile. "How long have you been here, love?"

"I'm glad to hear it," she replied as she paused in wiping down the glass to consider the question for a moment. "Two years this Christmas Eve...which I hadn't realized until now, actually. My life back home is really different from this." In a lot of ways, Sydney was no longer that same girl she'd been back then. Now, if she came face to face with her father or the Alchemists, she wouldn't back down; even the thought of him no longer sent her spiraling as it once did.

"I'm happy, I got married last month, and...I'm really glad I'm here," Sydney told him.

A part of John was amused that she'd decided to go on a cleaning spree while he was there. The place didn't need it and he had a feeling that they both knew it too. Though, he gives a bit of a smile at the mention of it being two years for her. How she was happy and married. Something that anyone should be, honestly. Maybe not married, but happy.

"Congratulations, love. I'm sure that things will work out beautifully for you then. Two years and counting, after all," he says with a grin.

It was nice to be doing something, and while she'd really rather be studying than cleaning, it would be impolite to do that while talking to someone in the store.

"Thank you, and I hope so," she replied with a bright smile once more. "Adrian and I are from the same place, but marrying there...would have been a lot more difficult." And she wasn't sure she'd have been ready for that at the point they both came from. But now? She was happy, content, and glad to be living her life in Madison Valley with the man she loved.

"Feel free to look around at anything," Syd added with a nod towards the wares, before settling onto her stool again.
