Who: Lucifer, Chloe & Trixie
Where: Their apartment.
When: 9/2/20 - After school.
What: Trixie gets what she wants.
Warnings: None.
After talking things over and finally figuring out where they stood with one another, they had both decided that the three of them would live together. They both knew that Trixie would be over the moon about it, and they had sat her down to have a discussion with her after she came home from school. The last thing that Chloe wanted was for Trixie to start running wild with her imagination and expect things that were unrealistic.
When she got home from school there was a small slice of chocolate cake and some milk waiting for her on the table. Since they weren’t about to break bad news to her, it wasn’t necessary, but with staying at home and having no job, Chloe had started to become a little more...domesticated?
“How was school today, monkey? Come sit down and have an after school snack.”
***
Trixie was immediately suspicious when she got home from school and her mom was waiting with a slice of cake. Even though she hadn’t been here long, Chloe had already been limiting her cake intake, so she assumed that something was wrong when she saw a piece sitting there.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, looking between her mom and Lucifer with a frown. At least they weren’t going to tell her that one of them was gone, since they were both here.
***
“Nothing,” Lucifer said simply, because in truth, there was nothing wrong. Everything was right, so far as he was concerned. “There doesn’t always have to be something wrong for your mother to give you cake, does there?” He hoped not. If so, he would have to have a talk with Chloe. Or simply slip Trixie more cake.
“You should ask her.”
He could tell her, but he felt that it was more Chloe’s place than his.
***
Of course, she would have assumed that something was wrong, it made sense. “We just wanted to- Lucifer and I talked about things and we decided that we will move to a bigger place. One with three separate bedrooms.” Chloe emphasized the part about the separate bedrooms, not wanting Trixie to get the wrong idea about anything.
***
Still suspicious, Trixie looked between them again. Lucifer was surprisingly easier for her to read than her mom and she was looking for any sign that they were not going to be dumb anymore and actually be together.
“Okay,” she said. “But if you guys want alone time, I can probably sleep over with Penny or Lyra.” Neither of their guardians would mind and she was mostly saying it to see how the adults would react.
***
“You will have your own room, Trixie. There’s no need for that.” Unless, of course, she wanted to. Maybe she did. Maybe she wanted to spend time with her friends. He knew what it was that she really wanted, though, and while he and Chloe were moving down that road together, they weren’t there yet.
“You’re happy about this, right?”
He thought that she would be, but she wasn’t exactly acting like it.
***
Sometimes, it amazed her with just how much Trixie knew about adult relationships, and she wondered how she knew so much. "Lucifer, I don't think that's what she meant…" Chloe muttered under her breath, loud enough just for him to hear.
"Don't worry so much about us, monkey. Nothing is going to change, we'll just have three bedrooms now, instead of two. But you're welcome to spend the night with your friends whenever you'd like."
***
“Nothing is changing?” Trixie asked, giving them both a skeptical look. Apparently that meant they were still going to be stupid about their feelings. She rolled her eyes and shrugged. “Okay, as long as we’re all living together.” That was the important part for her, mostly because she was used to spending time with Lucifer now and didn’t want to bounce back and forth between them. Plus her mom’s track record of sticking around wasn’t great.
She took a bite of her cake and wondered who she might be able to recruit to help her with her match making efforts.
***
“Well, I certainly wouldn’t say that nothing is changing,” he said with a raised eyebrow. “We are all moving in together, for one thing.” That was a big deal for Lucifer, moving in with Chloe. Even if they weren’t sharing rooms. But maybe Chloe’s offspring just didn’t see how significant that was. Or maybe she was wanting more. But what did more even mean, from a little girl’s perspective.
“You can, of course, decorate your room however you like.”
***
"Okay, yes, you're right, I apologize. Things are changing. Just nothing major, I guess?" She wasn't trying to downplay her relationship with Lucifer, or anything like that. She just didn't want Trixie to get too excited about something that might not happen. Of course, she hoped things would change, but after what happened with Pierce she should probably not jump into anything too quickly.
"I thought you would be a little more excited than this."
***
Pierce was a big jerk. Lucifer wasn’t. It was that simple in Trixie’s eleven year old brain.
“I’m excited,” she said, putting down her fork so she could look up and smile at both of them. “But I’d be more excited if you two were together.”
She was too young to have much tact when it came to this sort of thing and said exactly what she was thinking. Of course, that also might have been Maze’s influence.
***
Lucifer flushed a bit at her comment, much to his horror. His relationship with Chloe was something he didn’t entirely understand himself and he didn’t wish to talk about it so easily.
“Our relationship is complicated, Trixie. And adults sometimes need time to work things out.”
And why was he explaining this to an eleven year old?
“And it’s really not your business.”
***
Chloe turned to give Lucifer a look of slight disapproval over how briskly he told Trixie to mind her own business, followed by a gentle nudge. “Sweetheart, you know the saying, good things come to those who wait. We need to spend some time together, first. Lucifer and I, that is.”
She explained with a smile, grateful that Trixie was more than okay with them being together. It made everything that much easier. “You don’t need to worry about us, though. You just worry about doing good in school, okay?”
***
“So, does that mean I won’t get to be a big sister anytime soon?” Trixie asked.
Now she was deliberately trolling her mom and Lucifer. This is what happens when your child spends so much time around a demon.
***
Lucifer gave Chloe a curious look. He wasn’t the kind to hold back what he was thinking. It wasn’t his way. There were things he wasn’t ready to discuss with her offspring, even if he had come to love the annoying little girl.
“No,” he said, in response to her question. “Certainly not.”
Even if he and Chloe did get together, more children were certainly not something he was even considering.
***
Chloe found herself incredibly amused by Lucifer’s adamant response, and she bit down on her bottom lip to keep herself from laughing. Having children with Lucifer was definitely not something that had ever crossed her mind. Of course, it made sense that Trixie would want a sibling, but she didn’t think that was going to happen.
“Monkey, things are a little different with Lucifer. He probably can’t father any children. Otherwise, there would probably be at least one hundred of his children running around the states.” Maybe that hadn’t been appropriate to say in front of her daughter, but it had just slipped out.
***
In all honesty, Trixie didn’t want any siblings. She liked being an only child and hadn’t even been thrilled to learn of Sabrina’s existence because she felt like it threatened her place in Lucifer’s life. But it was funny to see the faces they made when she said things.
“How do you know there’s not?” she asked. “Sabrina is here. Maybe he has other kids too.”
***
“Sabrina,” he said quickly, looking at Chloe in order to clarify, “Is from a different world. It was Lucifer who fathered her, yes, but not me.” He wanted to make that clear. So far as he knew, he had no children. He didn’t know if it was possible. But then again...maybe it was.
“And there’s no reason I couldn’t have children, just because I haven’t.”
He seemed a little annoyed by the idea that he was something less than perfectly functional.
***
“Sabrina, who was fathered by another Lucifer?” Did she really just hear that right? Chloe took a deep breath and reached down to smooth her hands over her shirt, tugging down
at the hem a little.
She was a little surprised when he seemed to be irritated over her mentioning he couldn’t have children. But, it didn’t phase her one way or the other. “Anyway, do you have anymore questions, my little monkey, or are we good for now?”
***
Trixie shook her head. “Can I have another slice of cake?” she asked, fairly certain the answer would be no, but figuring it couldn’t hurt to ask. Maybe they’d be distracted enough by her other questions and comments to say yes.
***
Lucifer almost jumped in and said yes, just to make her be quiet. It was the best way to go, really. A full Trixie was a happy and quiet Trixie. But with Chloe here at last, it wasn’t Lucifer’s choice to make.
He looked over at Chloe, raising his eyebrow. There were things they would have to talk about later, but definitely not with Trixie around.
***
"No, you may not have another piece of cake. Maybe, if you're lucky, after dinner." Chloe moved to press a kiss to Trixie's forehead and grabbed the napkin to wipe off her mouth.
"You can go and start your homework and I'll let you know when dinner is done."
